In late February, the top free apps in the App Store in Russia were led by the GetContact app. According to the developers, it should help users block unwanted calls, as well as determine the names of callers who are not listed in the phone book.
GetContact also allows you to find out how a particular phone number is recorded from users of the application. When you first start GetContact requests access to the phone book; data from there is transmitted to the company's servers. Apparently, it is the function that shows how the phone number is recorded in the contacts of other users of GetContact, was the main reason for the success of the application.
By installing GetContact, the user agrees to receive SMS and transfer their data to third parties. The third item of the privacy policy, published on the application’s website, is that GetContact can “send informational messages via e-mail and SMS, or call, or carry out marketing activities.” The same paragraph states that the company reserves the right to share with third-party companies any information collected.

GetContact banned in Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. The App Store appeared clone - it is also banned. In early February 2018 the Ministry of Information and Communications of Kazakhstan has blocked access to GetContact due to violation of data protection laws. At the same time the application is banned in Azerbaijan; at the end of 2017 Armenia's government urged citizens to stop using it. In the App Store and Google Play in February, a new application GetContact_ (with underscores in the name) - by another developer and dedicated only to the analysis of phone books; Kazakhstan banned it as well. In the Russian App Store GetContact_ ranks second stamp free applications.
The application allows you to check not only your number. In GetContact, you can enter any phone number - and the application will show how this contact is recorded from other people. Naturally, this led to the fact that users began to check how their friends, acquaintances and relatives call them.
The Azerbaijan edition 1news has published a selection of stories that happened to users of GetContact. The note states that many women install the application to check their husbands. One of them allegedly discovered that her spouse was recorded with someone under a female name, and concluded that he had a married lover. Another man also found out that a female name is issued by his number in GetContact, and hoped that his wife would not know about the application.
GetContact invites anyone to remove their number from the database; whether it works is unclear. The company website has
page , in which you can enter your phone number - and within 24 hours they promise to delete it from the database. Those who installed the application, you must first delete your profile in the application.
