Setting up notifications and background applications (For all devices on MIUI)

Similarly configured and working back-end applications, such as GPS-trackers, third-party alarm clocks, weather widgets, etc.

based instructionMIUI 11 . Past manual removed under spoiler (at the end of post)

2.2 Starting with Android 8.0 (Android API 26), Categories (channels) have been added for notifications.
Depending on how application developers implement, these can be channels / categories, themes, subscriptions, or just settings.
But for each Channel / Category you need to check the notification settings separately!

2.4 In connection with the emergence of categories from the 8th Android, you can flexibly customize the behavior of system notifications.
You can also customize a separate sound for each!
Settings - All applications - Android system - Notifications and see settings for various system notifications
For example, here we turn off the sound for notifications about USB connections (Through the Importance item, you can also manage pop-up notifications / sound)

3. Turn on the screen when notifications are received
Settings - Lock and Protect (Lock Screen) - Wake on Notifications when Received
* May not work on third-party themes.
If you want to disable the inclusion of the screen for some stand-alone application, you can disable notifications for it, "Lock Screen". Include screen will not be, but notifications on the lock screen just will not.

4.3 Settings - Battery - Settings (gear at the top right) - Adaptive mode (not all are) - can be turned off

For example, you rarely use some kind of messenger and it can fall under this function.

4.4. If necessary, you can check the item in the additional options "Run in the background"
Security - Applications - Permissions - Other permissions - Required application - Run in background

4.5 Battery saving. Item "Run in Background" can not be in the permissions, but you can view more

For normal operation of notifications in some applications, synchronization must be enabled!
For example, without synchronization, notifications for gmail do not work!
Just do not forget that synchronization can be enabled ONLY for Wi-Fi, in this case, these applications may not work on the mobile Internet.
Settings - Sync - Wi-Fi only - turn off

In Viber, WhatsApp, mail and in some other applications, you need to additionally set up notifications, otherwise they may simply not be included!

Who suddenly stopped working / had problems with notifications on some applications, especially when recovering from backups - it helps to reinstall the application.
Delete. Reinstall. Do not forget to check all the settings above for this application. Reboot.
Sometimes this can happen after updating the firmware or the applications themselves.

- Settings - Advanced (Other / Advanced) - For developers - MIUI optimization (sometimes disabling helps, affects the interface and updates over the air!)

If developer mode is not enabled:
[MIUI8]- Settings - About device - a few clicks on the item "Version MIUI"
[MIUI9]- Settings - About phone (First item in settings) - a few clicks on the item "MIUI version"
[MIUI10]- Settings - About phone - a few clicks on the item "Version MIUI"

If you selected a third-party sound file for notifications through the native Explorer, but there is no sound, select it, through any third-party file manager.

For those who persistently fail to configure notifications

Once upon a time enjoyedRoot- Push Notifications FixerorPush Notifications Fixer- maybe this will help someone ...

If there is no way at all, if you have root, you can add (change if you already have) to build.prop instruction pm.sleep_mode = 0
Instead of zero, you can try other values (2/3/4)
Value 0: Pause power ARM11.
Meaning 1: Completely shutting down the ARM11.
Meaning 2: Software sleep (ARM11 remains on, but is switched to low power mode).
Meaning 3: The frequency of the ARM11 drops to 20 megahertz. Voltage will also be reduced.
Meaning 4: When you sleep, no action will occur (May lead to increased power consumption!).

And most importantly! Check whether any task killer battery optimizers(!) , memory cleaners, etc.

By the way, there were cases when a person could not set up notifications, made a reset and everything was set up right away.
Remotely find out what it depends on, I can not, and there is no desire.
Therefore, one more tip is to try to make wipes, although it would be "cache" and "dalvik cache"!
I set up notifications on several smarts last year, people calmly update the firmware, everything works great.
I, of course, flashed my smart / intermittently, I have never had such a thing that notifications would not work!

Setting up background applications using the example of GPS trackers (For all devices on MIUI)

Similarly, any other applications that should work in the background are configured.
* Taskers, third-party alarms, weather widgets, etc.

Many people write about problems with the operation of GPS trackers (they do not record the route, when the screen is locked, etc.)
Or a third-party alarm does not work. Or some widgets are not updated (weather, etc.)
Everything is configured by analogy withnotification setting!

Screenshots are made on the example of Google maps, instead of register your tracker or any other application.
For widgets, it's usually enough to run the first item.

1. Autorun. Put the necessary applications in autorun! (Security - Permissions - Autostart)

Good day. I have a Xiaomi 4X. Set everything according to your instructions in the header. But often this happens: for example, a message comes in whatsapp or telegram. I have exactly the same! All the drain did not set up anything, I suspect that the matter is in a sleeping mode or somewhere else with power consumption

Regarding the recording of GPS trackers (specifically Strava, Endomondo, Wahoofitness).
-General work of applications in the background is limited (NOT the maximum mode. Although it worked at the maximum like)
-The necessary GPS applications are allowed to work in the background individually for each, and access to the location
-At the startup of the application, I do not stand. (there is only mail and vatsap)
-But I hang it up just in case, I can accidentally click a finger on the "cleaning button" on the desktop (although no application or system-scrubbing cleans the memory with a machine. Only I myself)
-In addition / privacy / location / - I have "only GPS"
Recording gps works. Including without access to an Internet. (the outlay with the Google card is most likely offline, you need to update sometimes)

Thanks for the detailed instructions.
Phone Xiaomi redmi 4X, did everything according to the instructions, there was a problem with Viber. I have a call signal, but there is no reception-reset window. To take a call you need to unlock the screen. Or it may even be silent and give a notification of a missed call. Did a reset to the factory and further according to the instructions. What could be the problem?

Rep: (9)
I did everything according to the instructions. Phone Xiaomi mi5 with miui8, notifications from mail mail and VKontakte did not come. But I noticed one pattern. If you go to Settings-Sync. And click to synchronize, then after synchronization, notifications immediately come. From Vatsap, notifications arrive without any settings

And if in the settings of the vibe for the beginning, try to set the screen on, unlock the screen?
then after synchronization notifications come immediately

For some applications, for notifications, the included synchronization is required.
But for mail.ru this fact has definitely never played a role. And just did not try to reinstall?

But when the reminder is triggered - just a short sound (NOT the one that is configured).

Google Calendar - Settings - General - Use a standard beep

Compare system alert settings and alert settings in the calendar application itself. Somewhere something is not right.

It is hard to say. Try to reinstall. Try to make the system (if there is a root and it is not system)
- To begin with, try to select some system sound for notifications, but not your own - check.
- If it works, then something is wrong with the rights most likely.

For some applications, for notifications, the included synchronization is required.

Made a complete reset of the phone with the removal of everything. As a result, notifications from the mail and the contact began to come, but sometimes with a strong delay, not instantly, as in the vatsap, as I had on other phones. But vkontakte sometimes does not come at all, once in general

Dear colleagues, on my Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro, notifications of missed calls, SMS, etc. are displayed on the lock screen. Tell me what to do.
P.S. I will say right away that there is no standard theme (everything works with the standard but I don’t like it at all). Can there be a normal topic with the output of notifications?
