[FAQ] How to reinstall iTunes to an earlier version
Remove iTunes
Before you start - save the data we need, to choose from:
C: \ Users \ USER_NAME \ Music \ iTunes - iTunes library, along with all the applications in it.
C: \ Documents and Settings \ USER_NAME \ Application Data \ Apple Computer \ MobileSync \ Backup are iTunes backups.
If you have windows Total iTunes uses 6 programs, which include two services and a fairly large number of libraries and dll files. All of them must be removed, because when you install iTunes, newer versions are never overwritten by older ones, and therefore performance drops to nothing. Before you start, do not forget to deauthorize the computer.
To remove these programs, I will use
Revo Uninstaller Probecause it does not just uninstall, but also cleans the registry. But again, from experience I will say - Standard "Add or Remove Programs" also works fine.
We need to remove the following things:
- iTunes
- Quicktime
- Apple Software Update
- Apple Mobile Device Support
- Bonjour
- Apple Application Support (for iTunes 9 or later)
If you have Mac OS X 1. Exit iTunes.
2. In the Finder-e go to the "Program".
3. Move iTunes to Trash.
4. In the search we type "System Monitoring"
5. We are looking for the process "iTunes Helper". Double click on it and click "complete"
7. We leave from "Monitoring"
8. Go to "Settings"
9. Choose "Accounts"
10. We are looking for iTunesHelper and delete from the list.
11. Exit and Reboot the Mac
12. Empty the basket with iTunes. All is ready.
We clean the remains
- iTunes
We check the folder C: \ Program Files \ iTunes - as a rule, plugins remain in it, and if they are from a new version, they may cause an error after the downgrade.
C: \ Documents and Settings \ All Users \ Application Data \ Apple Computer \ iTunes (Win XP) or C: \ ProgramData \ Apple Computer \ iTunes (Win Vista \ 7) - delete the SC Info folder, it contains authorization data, which also when moving from 9.1 to 8.0 may cause errors in the AppStore.
C: \ Documents and Settings \ User \ Application Data \ Apple Computer \ iTunes (Win XP) or C: \ Users \ User \ AppData \ Apple Computer \ iTunes (Win Vista \ 7) - delete the working information iTunesPrefs.plist and Cookies, the rest is also possible, but not critical.
C: \ Documents and Settings \ User \ Application Data \ Apple Computer \ Preferences (Win Xp) or C: \ Users \ User \ AppData \ Apple Computer \ Preferences (Win Vista \ 7) - delete the settings file com.apple.iTunes. plist
- Quicktime
C: \ Documents and Settings \ All Users \ Application Data \ Apple Computer \ QuickTime (Win XP) or C: \ ProgramData \ Apple Computer \ QuickTime (Win Vista \ 7) - delete the settings file, com.apple.QuickTime.plist.
- Apple Software Update
C: \ Documents and Settings \ All Users \ Application Data \ Apple \ Installer Cache and C: \ Documents and Settings \ All Users \ Application Data \ Apple Computer \ Installer Cache - clear the cache, deleting all folders.
- Apple Mobile Device Support
C: \ Documents and Settings \ USER_NAME \ Application Data \ Apple Computer (Win XP) or C: \ Users \ User \ AppData \ Apple Computer (Win Vista \ 7) remove SyncServices
C: \ Program Files \ Common Files \ Apple -we archive (I do not recommend deleting immediately)Mobile Device Support
- Bonjuor
C: \ Program Files \ Bonjour - check if everything is lost.
- Apple Application Support
C: \ Program Files \ Common Files \ Apple - by analogy, it is better to archive and not delete the Apple Application Support folder, until you make sure that everything works after reinstallation.
Before installing ...
- Be sure to restart the computer.
- Check the task manager for the presence of the iTunesHelper.exe process - if it is there, go through all the folders again.
- Start - Control Panel - Administration - Services(or My Computer - Management - Services)- iPod Service and Apple Mobile Device must be either disabled or not at all.
