Novice Dictionary

Required for review!
thankneiji for providing some material.

Firmware (ROM) is an archive of software. It includes the operating system (Android), all the necessary drivers for the phone's devices and pre-installed applications. After installing the firmware and turning on the phone, the user gets a fully functional, working machine. In this form, he gets to the user from the store. Official firmware - stock, unofficial - custom.

Bootloader (boot, bootloader, bootloader) - a small program stored in memory that loads the operating system.

Flashtool (flasher, flash player) is an unofficial program for flashing Sony Ericsson phones. The functionality of this program is very rich.

Core (kernel) is the part of the operating system that is responsible for the interaction between all the hardware and the software part of the system. The kernel consists of a set of drivers of all the hardware and memory management systems, network, security, and other basic functions of the operating system.

Radio module - part of the software responsible for the operation of communication devices with the mobile operator.

MIUI - This is the firmware from our Chinese brothers, with a completely redesigned and modified interface, similar to iOS.

Cyanogen Mod (CM) is a firmware based on pure Android OS with open source code, and a group of developers from the site are working on it xda-dev . They also have their own official site .

Busybox - system files required for xRecovery

xRecovery - it is a developed tool by craftsmen from the site xda-dev designed to fully restore and backup your system, as well as to install the firmware.

ClockworkMod recovery (CWM) is the same as xRecovery. Modified unofficial recovery, which is available for most devices running Android.

Problems that often occur during and after installation

Problem:
After an unsuccessful installation, the phone does not load further the inscription "Sony Erricson" (white on black).
Decision:
Need to recover official firmware via flashtool.

Problem:
The phone was disconnected during flashing using Flashtool.
Decision:
1. Remove the battery from the device.
2. Connect the device to charge (without battery! ).
3. Wait for the green LED, wait about 10 minutes.
4. Remove the device from charging and insert the battery.
5. Start the flashing process again, since you now have an “empty” phone.

Problem:
When installing the firmware in the CWM writes.
Installing update ...
assert failed: getprop ("ro.product.device") == "X10i" || getprop ("ro.build.product") == "x10i" || getprop (ro.product.device ") ==" X10a "|| getprop (" ro.build.product ") ==" X10a "|| getprop (" ro.product.device ") ==" es209ra "|| getprop ("ro.build.product") == "es209ra"
E: Error in /sdcard/xrecovery/update_signed.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
Decision:
Solution fromalexs790
in the installation script (updater-script) the firmware you are installing is needed delete lines , which rekoveri swears. These are the first three lines, to the words package_extract_file (...
updater-script is on the way:META-INF \ com \ google \ android \ .
Or before installing any firmware, roll back the phone to the drain.

Problem:
After hacking the boot, Wi-Fi does not work.
Decision:
Such a problem most often happens on runoff cores. Need to installWiFi module . To drain or for DooMKernel V6 . For Cyanogen Mod or MiUI, this will not work.

Problem:
When flashing with flashtool, it gives an error
ERROR - Error flashing. Aborted
Decision:
Try again. Do not hold the phone in your hand.

Problem:
When installing the kernel, in the flashlight it gives out:
ERROR - ERR_SEVERITY = "MAJOR"; ERR_CLASS = "SECURITY_CLASS"; ERR_DYNAMIC = "SIN header verification failed"
Decision:
The reasons for this error are different, most often, it is an attempt to install the kernel for an unlocked bootloader on a locked one (so it is impossible to do! ).
You can eliminate itreflashphone for stock firmware. Or put the stock core.

How to install custom firmware (universal instruction)

 1. If a kernel is required, then install it via Flashtool (if the boot is unlocked) or via CWM (if the boot is locked).
 2. Copy the archive with the firmware to the root of the memory card
 3. Reboot the phone and go to the xRecovery menu (navigate through the menu using the volume keys up - up, down - below. Arrow Back - exit from the submenu. Menu button - select (confirm action)
 4. Select Backup and Restore and save the current system, i.e. choose Backup. Then go back to the main menu
 5. Select Factory Reset (full wipe) and confirm the action
 6. Select Wipe Cashe Partition and confirm the action
 7. Select the Advanced option and there Wipe Dalvik Cache and confirm the action
 8. Choose Wipe Battery Stats in the same place and confirm the action (if there are no problems with battery power consumption, then I do not recommend doing Wipe Battery Stats IMHO!)
 9. Then we return to the main menu and select Install custom zip, and then click Choose custom zip from sdcard and select our * .zip file (the name will change depending on the firmware) and wait for the phone to install everything!
 10. Choose Reboot phone
 11. The installation is complete!

Why do we need custom firmware and how does it differ from the official one?

Thank you so muchneiji for the provision of material.

Custom firmware gives us the opportunity to breathe new life into the device. Expand its functionality and capabilities, as well as improve its performance. Firmware can be based on the drain or ported from another device, and with a newer version of the Android OS. Porting firmware gives us the opportunity to get the look, and with it the partial functionality. An example of this would be a function.DLNA , Xperia X10i doesn’t have this function as standard, or modification of the notification curtain, in which you can add up to 15 buttons containing the most frequently requested functions. Yes, some functions can be inserted (added) into the drain without flashing the device, but by custom - this is a combination of many tweaks and such additions. Comparing performance, some custom firmwares exceed stock by as much as 60%, thanks to new optimization drivers.
Custom firmware (Thgo)

Stock firmware
[/ spoil] For example, a new version of the Android OS. The latest official firmware on Xperia x10i Android 2.3.3, but porting allows us to install the OS version2.3.7 , 4.0.4 (ICS) and even 4.1 (JB) . The last two work a bit in a limited, so far, functional. The camera and HotSpot do not fully work for them, but this can be fixed. But you get maximum performance. In the mini-FAQ on Cyanogen Mod7.2 and 9.1 You can find solutions to these problems.
There is no possibility to list all the advantages of custom firmwares. there are a lot of them. Putting them or not your business. If you want more features, the convenience of functionality and just self-development (as you have to suffer, to get some experience in this regard), then put and do not hesitate, there is a choice. Browse the firmware you can findhere .

How to install Cyanogen Mod firmware?

For all Cyanogen Mod firmware, the installation is not particularly different and is applicable to all firmware. In the FXP firmware, most often, the kernel comes with the extension .sin, that is, you need to create an ftf file. I made ready-made kernels, which can be found below under the spoiler, but you can create them yourself (instruction)
Make sure that the kernel and firmware versions match!

1. Roll back to stock firmware 2.3!
After the rollback, do not forget:
 • Install / check for Root rights.
 • Enable "Unknown sources" (Settings-Applications)
 • Enable "USB debugging" (Settings-Applications-Development)
2. Download the kernel, firmware and GAPPS!
3. Throwfirmware and GAPPS on SD card.
4. We put the core.
5. Go to CWM (when it lights uppinkLED click on the volume rocker):
Dowipe data / factory reset, wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache.
Go ininstall zip from sdcard - choose zip from sdcard , then install the firmware and GAPPS.
6. Everything is ready! The first launch will be a little longer, but do not panic.

How can I change the appearance of the firmware?

Installation topics:
Some firmware developers make additional mods that you can optionally add to the firmware. One of these firmware isDonuthd . But if the developer did not provide such an opportunity, you can download different topics and put them yourself. Firmware MiUI and Cyanogen Mod perfectly amenable to change. Themes to the firmware can be easily found on savagemessiahzine.com .
From the stock firmware, the situation is different, the themes on them are put through xRecovery or CWM and can "fill up" the system.

Font change:
You can change the font in two ways. The first and second .

Installing launchers:
On any firmware, you can install third-party launchers. They completely change the look of your desktop and lock screen. One of the most famous isGO launcher EX and Nova Launcher (4.0 and 4.1 only).
