Rep: (1102)
What firmware versions exist for our device? How to decrypt the name of the firmware?

firmware hasofficial and custom .
Official firmware(The most stable versions of the firmware used in the SC) are recognized as the most stable versions of the firmware used in the SC), which can be downloaded via KIES extremely simple and write instructions for their installation. At the same time, we can meet newer versions for our animal. These firmware are manufactured by the manufacturer, but do not have the status of official, they appear new functionality and the errors of previous firmware are corrected or new errors appear. We call them beta versions.
Custom- Firmware-based official with the amended author functionality.

An example of decoding the name of the firmware

I9100XEKE1:
  • I9100- model number of the animal;
  • XE- country code or many countries (in this case = Bulgaria, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Ukraine);
  • TOis the year (K = 2011);
  • Eis the month (E = May);
  • 1- firmware number this month.

Codes and their decoding are looking below;)

What is root access? What are they needed for?

Very often, the owner of the Android phone is confronted with the mysterious phrase "root rights". What is it? For linux users, there is no need to explain this, but for Windows users, in a nutshell, this is the ability to log in as administrator. In short, root rights give us the opportunity to do with the system everything that pleases: delete, edit, add files, including system files.
What exactly can we get with root rights?
Here is a sample list of features that open to the user of the Android system, which has root permissions:
  • unlimited control of the system
  • the ability to replace system files, to be able to:
    -change topics
-Replace standard applications such as calendar, clock, email program, etc.
-Replace the system loader and the Recovery image to obtain the ability to save and restore the system and replace the firmware.
-replace images and animations displayed at system startup.
  • run applications that give you more control over the system, such as:
-SuperUser, allowing you to grant root rights to various programs,
-Root Explorer, a file manager that allows you to see and work with all the files on your device, unlike the standard file manager.
-programs that allow you to delete and change any applications, including system ones, and there are also a lot of programs that make life easier for Android users,
  • make a backup of your system, including the programs you added and the data that you can restore at any time after resetting to factory settings or updating the firmware,
  • move installed applications from phone or tablet memory to a memory card,
  • transfer temporary files of the Internet browser and cache of various applications to the memory card,
  • control your device using a computer via USB or WiFi connection.

Firmware Samsung GT-I9100 Galaxy S II, how do the right thing?

ATTENTION Lady and Jant Elemen, ladies and gentlemen, Pani and Panov! When firmware, it is extremely recommended to use a laptop or computer connected to a uninterruptible power source, because in case of power outage, there is a chance to get from the "brick" phone, which will not be restored at home. Communicator for the firmware It is advisable to connect to the computer via the USB2 port on the rear panel (you should not connect the phone to the USB hub). With USB3 ports, sometimes there are problems, and USB1 ports are not suitable!

Then we start:

Firmware smartphone Single-it is stitching (raspotranyaetsya through Kies):
1. Run the program Odin (! Winows in 7 / Vista - the name of the Administrator) and see before followingManufacture window:
Attached Image
What to do next?
2. If you have downloaded the archive that contains only one file* .tar or * .tar.md5 Then substitute this file tar (md5) in Odin3 , as PDA part. The rest of the daws do not touch.
Attached Image
Note:
The extension md5 is not recommended to be removed. This is the same tar, but with a file checksum check (CRC).
Some custom firmware also come with MD5. The authors do not always understand the meaning of CRC. Those. take stock * .tar.md5 and change the files inside. As a result, CRC does not match the content and Odin3 rightly begins to "rebel." In this case, or we ignore the protest, or expansion md5 remove.
With some firmware file goes SS_DL.dll. It is present in all firmware downloaded via Kies. For this single file is not needed.
3. Next, go to paragraphs 1.2 - 1.5 below in the instructions for flashing your device 3-firmware file.
Note:
If, after flashing the phone freezes for inscription Samsung or goes into cyclic reboot (Butlup, bootloop), do wipe.

Firmware smartphone trehfaylovoy firmware:
Note:
  • This manual shows the complete method for firmware.
  • PIT-file and check Re-partition must be specified only in extreme cases. they are not installed during normal firmware!
  • An extreme case is considered: when the phone is stitched 3 firmware file without a pit, but it still does not boot.

1. Run the program Odin3 (! Winows in 7 / Vista - the name of the Administrator) and see before the next window:

What to do next?
1.1. Selecting options
Note one tick Re-Partition (redistribution), Auto Reboot (restart) and F. Reset Time (reset time), then choose a pre-downloaded and unpacked on the big brother firmware files PIT, PDA, PHONE and CSC files, as shown below.
Example:
  • In field BOOTLOADER insert nothing, leave blank
  • In fieldPIT insert file xxx_EXT4.pit ( See note above! )
  • In fieldPDA insert file CODE_I9100_xxx.tar
  • In fieldPHONE insert file MODEM_I9100_xxx.tar
  • In fieldCSCinsert fileGT-I9100-CSC-MULTI-xxx.tar

Note:
  • FileKERNEL_I9100_xxx.tar- stock kernel.
  • Firmware files can have the extension tar.md5. His (md5) is not recommended to delete. This is the same tar, but checking checksum file (CRC).
  • The firmware can consist of more than 3 files. In particular, it may even lie files nucleus c (c zImage inside), BootLoader (c boot.img and sbl.img inside).
  • In such a case we ignore them since These files are usually already packaged in CODE_xxx.tar (recommended to see, for example, TotalCommander-th)
  • If several firmware files CSC (c cache.img), you can choose any. All the same, they do not contain the CSC for the CIS countries.

How to rutovat (root) device?

Instructions for obtaining root rights ( pro100gamer )
Option 1:
The kernel has a built-in as root, and modified biziboks ClockWorkMod (CWM3) rekaveri ..
1.Activate usb debugging: applications / development / debugging usb
Takefrom here(Or see the branch "Firmware Samsung GT-I9100 Galaxy S II".) Core (choose your firmware version) and sew as a PDA-part through Odin, as shown in the screenshot:
Attached Image

Done!
Important! You can connect the phone to the computer in the download mode after Odin is already ready for the firmware .. We look at the kernel version according to the code * # 1234 # which is the version of the PDA, this will be the native core of your firmware ..

Who wants to have a core with CWM recovery as wellget rid of the yellow triangledo this:

1. Open the archive with your root kernel, remove the "zImage" file (kernel) from there and put it on the phone's internal memory
2. We sew (through Odin) the kernel with the root (with the kernel also load the CWM application)
3. We sew (through Odin) our native stock core
4. Open (tel.) CWM application and Hit "Flash kernel", choose our file "zimage", we press "flash" and order.
Attached ImageAttached Image

Alternative way to get rid of the yellow triangle (simpler):
In the presence of the jig, simply enter with the help of the device in the download mode and sews core with Ruth.

Option 2:
This procedure is needed only in the case when the native kernel with CWM Recovery support has not yet been released, but I can not wait to flash it and I need Ruth
1.Activate usb debugging: applications / development / debugging usb
2. Take the core from supercuriofrom hereorfrom hereand sew through Odin as PDA part (Curio says that Ruth gets up automatically, but it is not so., Check for the full root can be opened for example "titanium backup". In general, if a defective Ruth, go to step 3)
3.After downloading the device, install (from the market for free) "BusyBox", open and click "install"
4. Ready!
P.S.
After receiving the root-rights using option number 2 -necessarilyyou need to flash the stock kernel (as part of the Pda through Odin Odin) its firmware (Ruth left).

We will make the root with modern means. ( sergmarin )

There is a modern core from ChainFire from XDA, which is when the firmware sets the Root and ClockworkMod rekaveri
ClockworkMod rekaveri - this is a very useful thing. This type of BIOS in your computer, boot key combination "Loudness Plus" is not otpuskaya- "HOME" -not otpuskaya- "POWER". Allows to flash unsigned Samsung updates (especially useful for flashing custom bikes - homemade modified firmware), backup and restore the entire system image (especially useful when delving into the failed system files), clear the cache, Dalvik cache, battery stats, and lots of functions.

Actually, the instruction:
- Download ODIN program. Make sure that you have installed Kies driver for your phone. Kies does not launch!
- Download the kernel, for example. CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEU_KE2-v4.0-CWM4, and unzip it, you get a .tar archive.
- Start the ODIN program.
- Enter the phone in flash mode, holding down the button on the unit is turned off "volume minus", not releasing it, hold down the center HOME button, and without releasing the hold the POWER button. As soon as the vehicle entered the Download Mode, connect the device to your computer using USB.
- Wait a few seconds, ODIN screen should display that your device is already connected.
- Make sure that nothing is selected ODIN except items В«Auto rebootВ» and В«F. Reset Time В». Press В«PDAВ» and select the file "CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEU_KE2-v4.0-CWM4.tar".
- Click on В«StartВ». ODIN kernel firmware starts, and then restart the machine.
- Wait for the machine.
- Everything is ready!

ATTENTION!!! After the firmware of a custom kernel in your device when you turn on the first screen will be an exclamation point, indicating that the phone uses Samsung unauthorized software in firmware mode is written, how many times have you stitched non-original firmware. This "defense" of Samsung from unauthorized firmware of the device. To reset the counter of firmware and removing an exclamation mark, jig (microSB plug with a resistor 301 com between 4 and 5 legs). If you have a firmware in the firmware mode, you must enter it with a simple insertion into the socket of the phone turned off and removes after the display of the download mode. In this case, the counter of unauthorized firmware will always show 0 and it will be written that the official firmware from Samsung is installed on the phone.

If you do not have the jig, and the like, that there is no exclamation mark at startup: D, although it anything other than a guarantee, does not affect, after the completion of all procedures sew native nucleus of the corresponding firmware (kernel included). But in this case you will not have Clockworkmod rekaveri with all its goodies.
In general, you decide.

Unfortunately, as a result of "experiments" over the phone or unsuccessful firmware "loss" the IMEI is possible and the forum a few such cases were reported. In order to avoid such, once you have the device in hand and got root-rights strongly recommended to make a backup section EFS (there are several options for a backup-a), so as not to have in the future as a result of experiments with the beast recovery problems IMEI.

Option 1
The easiest option - to copy to your device EFS folder with a program Root Explorer. The folder itself is at the root of the file system of the communicator, the same place where sdcard and system folders.

OC / UV Guide for Samsung GT-I9100 Galaxy SII

Attention! Need Root!

What is it and why?
OC - overclocking or acceleration, increase in frequency of the processor / graphics core over nominal to increase the speed, heat and reduce battery life. Tampering use leads to overheating and failure of various telephone components.

UV - undervolting , Lowering the voltage processor / graphics core to reduce heat and increase battery life. Inept use leads to instability of the phone, lockups and spontaneous reboots.

It is doubtful that SGS2 required acceleration, since his performance at the moment and so excessive, moreover, it is very very hot in active use. Many people (myself included), on the contrary, limit the maximum CPU frequency up to 1000 or even up to 800 MHz, which does not interfere with normal operation.
However, some users can not sleep until I will squeeze every last megahertz and a parrot from your phone :-)

undervoltage direction seems more promising, because at a certain accuracy and luck, it allows significantly reduce battery consumption (especially in the standby mode, since the main battery eater still remains the screen ...), as well as reduce the heat.
But

some terms
Governor - CPU frequency control mechanism phone depending on the load.
  • Performance - always keeping the maximum frequency
  • Ondemand - under load quickly raises the frequency at failure load slowly lowers it
  • Conservative - under load slowly picks up speed, the load failure quickly lowers it
  • Powersave - always keeping the minimum frequency

It is easy to understand that the given values are sorted in ascending or descending order of energy saving performance.
In real life, used mainly Conservative or Ondemand.
Performance is good for fallometrii and Powersave - to save battery at all costs.

Instruments
Tegrak Overclock Ultimate
Fresh version(thankpro100gamer )
Link to Market(Worth 2 bucks, support the author!)
XDA thread(eng)

Since this program allows you to OC / UV, regardless of the support at the kernel level, as will ship its own module, it will be considered as the main tool. Analogs of flexibility I have not yet seen. However, it is somewhat inconvenient to set up.

CPU Spy- a free program to keep track of the history of the frequency of the processor. It does not hang in the memory. It is also useful to track the situations of unreasonably high battery consumption.

Adjusting the voltage and frequency
I will talk to my example of the firmware (KF1).
Instructions short, if something is not clear - better once again ask again!

Established Tegrak Overclock Ultimate.

First, simply select a range in which the frequency of the processor will vary.

1. Click Load overclock module, to load the control module frequency and voltage of the processor.
2. set the frequency range.
- Press Scaling
- Select the Max and Min frequency. I should 1000/200 Mhz.
- Select the Governor (see above under the spoiler.). I should Ondemand.
- Click Apply
3. Click Set on boot (the changes are applied after reboot.

We turn to the voltage regulation
1. Click Optimization
2. We have a list of "levels" of the processor, from Level 0 (max) to Level 4 (m). Each level corresponds to the frequency (in parentheses are the default voltages):
0 - 1200 (1275, 1100)
1 - 1000 (1175, 1100)
2 - 800 (1075, 1100)
3 - 500 (975, 1000)
4 - 200 (950, 1000)
Also, at each level of the processor voltage is selected (Core Voltage) and bus voltage (?) (Internal Voltage).
The more frequency, the more the voltage needs to support it. But since the manufacturer laid some voltage supply for stability, sometimes these voltages can be reduced. In this case, the phone will be less consumed energy and warm up less. But if it downgrade it too much (i.e. below the reserve, which is laid by the manufacturer, taking into account the characteristics of a particular device), the processor will work unstable, hang and overloaded. For each specific device, stable voltage values of their own. If someone works on some stresses, this does not mean that you will earn.
Clicking on the appropriate "level", select the desired voltage.
CHECKAll 10 times!
If much lower voltage, then nothing terrible will happen. Well, hang, reboot ... But if by mistake wrong pick, it can be anything and burn!

After checking, click "Apply".
And so for each level.

After making changes in the program for 5 minutes "is testing the stability" in the background, and if the test is not passed, rolls back the latest update. A very useful feature.

Examples voltage values:
From SW.pro100gamer (Fairly conservative, we should capitalize on many devices):
1200 - 1225, 1050
1000 - 1125, 1050
800 - 1025, 1050
500 - 925, 950
200 - 900, 950

From SW.serj69 (I would say, quite aggressive, so be careful)
1200 - 1150, 950
1000 - 1050, 900
800 - 950, 850
500 - 850, 800
200 - 825, 750

My settings:
1200 - 1225, 1050
1000 - 1125, 1050
800 - 1000, 1025
500 - 850, 875
200 - 825, 875

My new configuration, stable after a week of testing:
1200 - 1200, 1000
1000 - 1100, 900

800 - 950, 850
500 - 850, 800
200 - 800, 800

Everyone should choose the settings that will earn it on his phone!
To test the stability needed to drive phone pozapuskat benchmarks, games, listen to music, watch video ... If everything will work fine - you can leave. If not - roll back to the previous values.

Attention! All actions to change the standard values of frequency and voltage in electronic components of your device can lead to unpredictable consequences up to the failure of the entire phone! The process of OC / UV even more dangerous than a botched firmware upgrade! No one, except you, is not responsible for such acts. Before you change anything, think ten times, and if you need it? Phone and so quite fast and economical, why expose it to the danger of failure? (andrewin )

What is Odex and Deodex? How to make a deodex?

What is Odex and Deodex? ( j-a-c-k )

Almost all APK (in the system section) in the usual firmware is accompanied by the ODEX file. Part of the application (namely the Java code itself) is contained in this file. Therefore, any change in the APK itself must be accompanied by the corresponding edge of the ODEX file. The craftsmen transformed the files program.odex in the classes.odex and stuffed them inside the files APK, thereby reduced the firmware size and most importantly - now the APK files themselves can be changed as you like, does not affect the operation of the system. This is called deodex.
What is good - in a deodexted firmware you can easily open the APK file by archiver, change resources in it (pictures, etc.) and return the changed file to the place in the firmware. In the usual, it leads to the collapse of the system ... the original. The formation in itself is the optimization of the Java code for a specific processor / device. That is, now specifically and in the case: File * .odex contains a switched Java program code for a specific device, and the CLASSES.DEX file is in the root of the * .apk file contains a Java code that can be performed on any device. This is the heart of Android: Virtual Java Machine "Dalvik". And this all means that the system will try to precompile all Classes.dex in APK when they are missing in the Dalvik-Cache folder.
Root is usually needed to install Deodex'ed firmware

How do deodex?

Thank uv.K-User.
The principle of operation extremely simple.
1. The program folder from the archive of an attached unpack in the root directoryWITH .
2. Root explorer of animal or from a savedaccording to the methodSW. Pako777 take out the file system folder app and framework, we throw in a folder with the program.
3. Run the script! Deodexter and wait for the end of the process. The output is the same folder app and framework, but already deodex.
4. The next task - to thrust these folders in the body. For this we need to write a script that removes .odex file and copies the contents of these folders or substitute Forums app framework and system.
Can take advantage of an attached zip-ohm, replace the contents of the system. It must be installed CWM Recovery.
After all done, in the palm of your hands is the place to be deodex firmware and you can proceed to the next step.

For program DeoDexter thank HC.sk0t.
