A critical vulnerability has been identified in the Skype version for smartphones and tablets based on the Android mobile OS. It turned out that the mobile application can, without the user's knowledge, issue a Skype name and other personal data, writes the Android Police resource.

The vulnerability was revealed by the editor when testing a new version of the Skype application with video call support. An unofficial beta version of this app appeared on the Web on April 11th.

It turned out that both the beta version of Skype and the regular client, available in the official Android Market store, store all user information, including his correspondence and personal data in a shared folder. At the same time, access to the contents of this folder is open to any applications and users.

Thus, when hacking an Android smartphone or tablet, hackers will be able to get access to the personal information of their Skype account without the user's knowledge. Moreover, this vulnerability applies to the official Skype client, available in the Android Market.

According to Android Police, Skype is already aware of the vulnerability. However, the release date of the updated version of the application is not yet called.
