First steps from the PDA - personal experience, where to start and what programs to install

First of all, after the purchase, both used and new PDA, you need to do XP (hard cutting -Hard reset - how to do), in order to clear the traces of the actions of previous owners or "advanced" sellers from the store. Usually it can be done through Start-Settings-System-Return to factory settings. After that, on a clean device, you can start installing software. Still be sure to stick a protective film on the screen.

You should not try to install everything at once, otherwise “goodbye mind” for a few days: wacko: and, often, “killed” or “hung” PDA.

1.0. How to install the program read carefullyhereandhere.

1.1. CP- this is a software rezet, rebooting the PDA with saving all personal data (most PDAs have a special hole with the inscription reset, where you have to stick with the stylus (wand)). The software resets does not harm the PDA at all, only those data that were not saved at the time of the SR are not saved, for example - the open document in which the edits were made will be saved, but only without these edits, if you click "save" in this document before , then everything will be fine after soft rezet.
1.2. XP- Hard cut is a return to the factory settings, all personal settings and data directly on the PDA will be lost, as well as all programs installed in the main memory (it does not affect the memory card).
1.3. BB- "Big Brother" is a regular computer to which you can connect your PDA, using programs that are installed on the computer, respectivelyActivesync(for Windows XP) orWindows Mobile Device Center(for Vista).
1.4. cab file- a file for installing programs on a PDA, an installation file that runs only on a PDA (that is, before launching it must be copied to a PDA) and installs one or another program. It does not need to open anything, just double tap on it and follow the instructions of the installer on the PDA screen. If you can’t install at all, you can readhereandhere.
1.5. Backup- archiving all possible data on the PDA. If the system crashes, if there is a backup in advance, you can restore the lost or damaged information, as well as the settings of the PDA, simply by running the backup as a cab file (Section 2.2.). It is not necessary to make a backup of a memory card with special programs, it is enough just to completely copy all its contents to the BB.
Backup is the first priority operation you need to learn to do and do it regularly!

1.6. PDA is also called "device" or "animal".
1.7. SC- service center (where PDAs are being repaired).
1.8. "Thudy" or "Today"- directly the usual state of the display when you see the date, clock, operator name, etc., without open programs, in its usual form.
1.9. If there is another unfamiliar "word", then the decoding is likelyhere.

Firstly - there is a category of programs "must have", but of course you can without them, but it will be very inconvenient for you to decide ....
first put -
2.1. Resco File Explorer- file manager, and to it other applications from the same manufacturer -Resco Keyboard Pro(quite comfortable keyboard, true lately "gone" toSpb keyboard ), Resco Today Plugin(small application for placing shortcuts on the desktop, battery status and memory status)
2.2. Spb backup- archiving of all data (backup), use very often at the initial stage of mastering the PDA (you need to save the archives to the memory card. Why? Read p 1.2. ) It is this program that can restore backups by combining different firmware. Backups are created as sav-files and you can restore them without having the program itself.
2.3. Memmaid- a set of tools - edit the registry, cleaning the system of debris (due to what is "increased" RAM), hanging notifications, remnants of deleted programs, correct removal of programs and much more (not necessarily this, very worthy, for exampleSktools).
Deep cleaning with MemMaid do this -
run - go to ... - clear - deep clean - then select items at your discretion, but be sure to choose: duplicate notifications, dangers and incorrect alerts, incorrect uninstallation, bad uninstall files, lost registry, invalid shortcuts, all temporary files and compress RAM.

These three types of programs are very important.

Further:
2.4. post office - ProfiMail
2.5. Message exchange - Smaper(mchat) orPigeon- ICQ clients, keep the connection well, but there are many others, for exampleQIP Pda
2.6. Browsers- Opera Mobile 10andOpera Mini for WM, UCWEB- put all.
2.6.1. Flash support -uZard Web P, Skyfire, ZetaKeyand Opera version with flash supportOpera Mobile 10 (Post # 4175540)

2.7. Alreader- the reader is quite convenient and popular
2.8. Fizzweather- I set the weather for myself (I don’t have to adjust a lot and there is an auto update), although most will not agree with the choice
2.9. dciBalance- account balance on the screen (there are several analogs too)
2.10. Core player, former(TCPMP)- The most powerful free audio / video player. Allows you to watch video movies on your PDA without additional conversion, supports most audio and video formats. (flv-format is played by Core Player, but the penultimate version or TCPMP with the additionally installedof thisflv-plugin)
2.11. iGO8- if there is a built-in GPS module, then I will honestly say, GPS is a cool and useful thing, with this program you can start an acquaintance, and indeed it is one of the best, I have been using it for a long time and am not going to change it.
2.12. PocketMusic Player Pro- if you just need a reliable audio player.
2.13. Dict- dictionaries, databases, reference books, encyclopedias, etc. with the ability to edit. Absolutely free. And no problems with the installation.
2.14. CradleAlarm (enAlarmPPC)andUr time- alarm clocks. "Smart" (to disable - you need, for example, to pass the puzzle) and reliable. Support the installation of mp3 ringtones. I went through different analogs for a long time - either megabrequent, or non-functional, or buggy.

3.0 All these programs, except for items 4, 6 and 10, 11, 12, 13, should be placed in the main memory of the PDA. Do you remember? Readhere.

Well, then ... there are unreal amount of programs (p.3.2.) ... We think

The most important thing is to carefully study the rules of the forum, if a question has matured, first try to search for a specialized topic, then what seems like a catastrophe for You may have been decided long ago;)

The important rule is that there are few backups, the number of backups is inversely proportional to the number of unresolved problems with the device in the future: yes2:

* * * * *
3.1. forum rules - here

3.2. list of all programs - here

3.3. ask for advice in finding a program - here

3.4. Hard-rezet how to do - here

3.5. Click here and find a lot of answers to standard questions.(PPC FAQ - frequently asked questions)

3.6. if you want to thoroughly read about everything related to the PDA, click here(this is like a PDA-water encyclopedia)

3.7. Ambulance for a newbie - here

3.8. video instruction how to use the forumsavagemessiahzine.com- here, also read p.6.

3.9. What is reputation and how to raise it?
Say "Thank you" by increasing your reputation. If you have less than 15 messages, then click on the "Complaint" buttonon that messagewhere they helped you and write who helped you.
If there are more than 15 messages, just click + next to the word "Reputation" of the forum member who you want to thank.

4. Check on a clean device. The correct sequence of actions:
The standard way to check a hardware problem or software (buggy software or hardware).

4.1. make a backup (Spb backup- recommend)
4.2. XP (Terms and jargonandHard reset - how to do? )
4.3. On a clean device, check the performance, if the problem disappears - it means that some program creates it, if it remains, it means either the firmware or the hardware. Reflash (to be sure with different firmware several times, right up to the very first official one), if after that nothing has changed, then the road to the SC is a hardware problem)
4.4. you can restore (completely or, if you wish, partially) all data and all system settings from the backup when you finally decide what to do. This means that the device can be returned to a state similar to what it was before XP, right down to the smallest of your settings, with all the installed programs, contacts, SMS, etc.

Example:
screen backlighting does not turn on
if after XP it doesn’t turn on anymore, then we reflash the device (although it’s already 90% clear that repair is needed) and if it doesn’t turn on after that, then this is definitely a problem in electronics, and if after XP the backlight started working, it means some kind of software makes the problem and you need to look for the buggy software

5. The method of "catching" buggy software secretly affecting the entire system:
XP - backup - installation of the program number 1 - backup - test work - installation of the program number 2 - backup - test work, etc.
And so far we do not catch, such a number of backups will help restore the last normal state of the PDA.

6. The recipe for optimal use of the "device" so as not to "buggy" so as not to lose information, etc.
Do this:
6.1. Choose, preferably, a stable light firmware.
6.2. Transfer all caches, etc. to memory card -PPC FAQ (Post # 5021209 - How to free up space in the main pda memory) .
6.3. Fill all stable and necessary for work software (without data).
6.4. Make a backup of the system and keep this backup as a backup, in order to then not put everything again in the case of XP.
6.5. Start using the device, start filling in information.
6.6. Regularlymake backupsbeforeinstalling a new software or editing the registry andafteradd important information. Accumulated backups, except for the last 1-2, there is no need to keep on the memory card, "store" them on the computer.
6.7. Customize andregularlydo deep cleaning of the system using MemMaid (p.2.3.).
6.8. Set up the creation of backups on a schedule, but not completely of the entire system, but only of the pym-data (contacts, messages). I use SpbBackup (p.2.2.) With saving the last five backups.
6.9. Sometimes copy the entire contents of the memory card to a computer.

Observing these rules I live comfortably with the PDA, I don’t lose information, I do XP only for the sake of some experiments.

How to install programs -
The easiest way -
1. Download the desired program to your computer.
2. remove from the PDA memory card
3. insert a memory card into the computer
4. create a folder on the map, for example name it - install
5. copy the downloaded program into it (sav-file)
6. correctly remove the memory card from the card reader in the computer and insert the card into the PDA
7. Run the copied sav file on the PDA
8. Follow the installer instructions.

Be sure to read morehere

All these programs, except for points 4, 6 and 10, should be put in the main memory of the PDA.

All the programs that are used in the work on the "today" screen should be in the main memory, because if at the time of accessing them the memory card is accidentally removed, then you can kill the system.

points 4 and 6 if you regularly use them, accumulate a lot of attachments and take up a lot of memory so the device will slow down.
and the principle is that the less in the main memory the better and put only the most necessary and what is not in the native firmware, so after removing the memory card we will have the most necessary set of programs. For example, why do we need without a memory card of clause 10, if for a small video or audio file we need a Windows media player. But as dear promptedCatgif we plan to watch a lot and regularly, movies and other video-audio products of different formats and often change memory cards (in the sense of using several memory cards just to store movies), then it’s better to install it in the main memory.

As a result, if for one reason or another we find ourselves without a memory card, then we have a minimum set of programs for the stable operation of our PDA, that is, the first item to view the contents, point 2 to create backups, item 3. to view the registry, correct removal of programs, cleaning the PDA, p.5 for ICQ, p7. for reading texts or books.

12 and 13 can be placed in the main one, but dictionaries and music should preferably be kept on the memory card

on your PDA -
Start-Setup-Connections-Install USB- and there you already choose the "storage device." (Card reader)
go out and connect the PDA and the computer with a cable and wait until the computer determines that it is connected to it and then use your PDA as a regular USB flash drive.

resco today plugin- a small, conveniently customized application for placing shortcuts on the desktop, battery status and memory status, can be used to display only shortcuts (in the form of small icons or large), you can view open applications (programs) with one click, go to them or close them.

install an additional line in the main memory (this is important) on the “Thuds” screen (with battery, memory status, etc.), hold the stylus on a small icon with a “magnifying glass” in the upper left corner of the line, the menu will open ... We set up as convenient, the first in the list, the battery status, the second - the memory status, the third - the size of the disks, the fourth - the installation of program or folder shortcuts, the fifth - the possibility of closing programs with one tap.

if for some reason it is not displayed on the "today" screen, then check:
start-up - setting - today - elements - Resco Today Plugin
must be enabled (checkbox or birdie)
and remember if CP was done after installation - if not, then it should be done.

romchk,
Can corrections? ..
1) Of the programs listed above, I only have TCPMP. And I live very well :-P
2) Tudeynye plug-ins, it seems, are stored in the windows folder on the PDA, not on the card. So, I live (for quite a long time) with SPBTime and SBSHWeather installed on the card with these modules;
3) The video player is just better to put in the DOS. memory so that you can watch movies from any flash drive (for example, from a camera).
: thank_you:

Catg,
1) software and OS, STE is all on the fan;) someone on Windows, someone on Linux, someone on an apple
2) I absolutely agree, I’m talking about the same thing (I’m saying to copy Sav-files only for the sake of sorting) and then when the newcomer is comfortable, he will live with the winmobile for 5-6 months, he will be able to put the tagdy anywhere, the main thing is understanding of the essence and then the software will overwrite the whole, and choose for itself what you like best of all) I have all the installation files in one "install" folder on the map
3) Personally, honestly speaking, WMP in the main memory with added plug-ins (flv and a couple of formats) suits me absolutely so that was my advice, with the calculation of the same thing that later the person decides.

Big ATP, for corrections: thank_you: now I’ll see what kind of software you have, if you published it in the relevant topic, it will be very interesting to analyze, I think I will find a lot of useful information;)

watchedheredid not find the list of your software

Hello there. I described my problem here a couple of days ago, they told me where to go, I was there, I did everything my grandmother whispered. But my beast still does not want to listen to me, neither BB finds the beast, nor the beast wants to end up with BB Well, it's okay, why the animal does not want to charge the battery? It charges for charging, the light blinks, it means it charges, it can lie for days, only the cable disconnects the beast will die, and after connecting to the power supply cable, it starts like after XP, even if during charging To unhook the battery from the connector, the light blinks further. I can not to go what he needs. I have a question, can I flash him through the memory card, or some prog so that the beast is still awake. It all started after replacing the battery. If it is always kept under the system, then it works and the navigator too. guard ... tell me who knows what. thanks in advance. (he will not be taken to a meat factory) HP iPAQ rz1710
