This is either wired in BIOS, then theoretically you can fix / change (by modifying the firmware) - or in hardware ...

I ran the Live version of Linux (mint, netrunner, fedora, ubuntu) - the built-in microphone does not work.
In Windows it works and is displayed as Microphone Array (Intel Smart Sound Technology (Intel SST)).
