Error 43 in the CH341A programmer

The other day I ordered a batch of CH341A programmers in China, which are used to flash 24-25 series memory chips.
But as it turned out, when connected to Windows 10 and 7, a message is displayed that "USB device is not recognized."
Initially I thought that the problem was in the CH341A chip itself, but it turned out that everything was much simpler.
Screenshot
Attached Image

Also, in “Device Manager,” Windows defined it as “Unknown USB Device (device handle request failed)”,
and in the properties, writes about the error "The Windows system stopped this device, because it reported the occurrence of problems.
(Code 43) and, of course, the VID and PID (VID_0000 & PID_0002) are incorrectly defined.
Screenshot

Opening the CH341A documentation and looking at examples of schematic diagrams, you can see that 12 MHz quartz is used everywhere.
Screenshot
Attached Image

And on the CH341A programmer itself, the quartz is set to 27.120 MHz
Screenshot

We take a soldering iron and unsolder the wrong quartz 27.120 MHz and solder a new one at 12 MHz.

We connect the programmer CH341A to the computer and see that the OS has a new device with VID and PID wine (VID_1A86 & PID_5512)

Completion of the programmer
In the process of working with the programmer revealed some shortcomings,
one of them: it is not possible to reset / set the QE bit in the second status register.
We read datashit, for example, on the chip W25Q64FV, and we find the puntQuad Enable (QE) ,
in which there is a warning:
WARNING: If the / WP or / HOLD pins are tied directly to the power supply or ground during
standard SPI or Dual SPI operation, the bit should never be set to a 1.

To fix this flaw, you need to detach the legs #WP (pin 3) and #HOLD (pin7) from VCC
and connect them to VCC via resistors 4.7 com.
On the "black programmer" it looks like this:

* Def1985,
It is more important that a person read the cap in principle, and this will be immediately apparent. In addition, if the question is in form, the amount of flooding significantly decreases when you release details from a character with tears, and this can stretch to half a page.

I observe discrepancies in terminology. Is the MB worth agreeing on somehow? Say, "clip" is a device for connecting without removing the chip from the motherboard, and "clothespin" or "clip" is the chip clamping to the contacts of the programmer board without soldering?

I read the cap and read the topic. Naturally, I blew a flash drive from the motherboard, because God knows what the shunted findings are. Plus QuadSPI - it was necessary to provide a wiring diagram. And about the clothespins-clips on the programmer there was no obvious negative.

I tried to do without soldering the flash drives to the programmer - I was afraid to overheat the microchips once again. In the end, I still had to solder, because I was unstable. Then it is read, then FFFFF, then erased, then hung on erasing, then an error in the middle of the erasing process, then an error when writing an image. How I soldered the flash drive to the programmer - everything went without any problems.

In general, the flash drives survived blowing off the mother, soldering to the programmer, blowing off the programmer, soldering on the mother wiring (I wasn't sure that the dump would work right the first time), soldering the wiring and soldering to the mother finally. So with the vitality they have everything OK, IMHO, no worse than other ICs.

If there is an understanding that soldering-flashing-soldering clearly implies reusability. I often do this:

* shaman1010,, about these optimizations (well, it is more convenient to solder the cable once to the mikruha and transfer it from the programmer to the mother and back) you do not think for the first time :) Thanks for the tip.

In my defense, I can say that the mother did not remove it from the laptop. There, it is no longer very convenient to pick a soldering iron with a hairdryer with a nozzle. And he was so afraid of accidentally failing to glimpse and short-circuit wires somewhere between themselves.

Shl Nout works. Repair seems successful.

pictures you need to hide under the spoiler do not know?

I know. Yesterday before going to bed, in the mobile application, I did not find a spoiler. Today found.

The method on the postings (the first picture) is convenient and in a separate application. There you can see that the microcircuit is soldered in a case that is very uncomfortable for soldering. In this embodiment, you can solder a sufficiently large number of times — solder eight wires without touching the place of their soldering to the memory housing. At the same time, those who do not have enough experience will not overheat the board each time, with the likelihood of getting torn off tracks.

once again afraid to overheat the microcircuit

Once, when the warranty service, the flash "blew" and set a hair dryer at a temperature of 230-250. I do not remember that at least one "bent".
These were mothers, vidyuhi, drives, monics, fotiki, etc. junk.
Until that time, when widespread hair dryers did not have, the chips were removed from the junk with a shaving blade and a soldering iron.
In principle, too, everything was repaired.

Hello.
Recently came ch341a (black) and Winbond 25x80avaiz chip. After writing to the chip, the contents do not match.

Used the following programs for the firmware:
- CH341A Programmer (v 1.18, 1.29, 1.34);
- AsProgrammer;
- Postal3;
- Colibri;
- Flashrom (on Linux).

No new program is correctly flashed by any program. AsProgrammer and CH341A Programmer write differently and this can be seen after the firmware on the content of the chip. The erasure is faster than a second and judging by the dummy check successfully.

After reading the posts in the program AsProgrammer removed the tick after reading the SREG and recorded, but they did not disappear (see attached screen). Is this normal for a new chip or is there something wrong with it? SREG for the old chip looks different: the second and third rows are marked in full.

I didn’t do the programming of the programmer and I’m definitely not going to do it myself. Also, it’s not quite sure if there is a problem with the QE bit for the w25x80avaiz chip. If so, is it possible to solve the problem “without a soldering iron“? Maybe you need a programmer more seriously?

The old microcircuit with marking 25x80vaiz, which is determined by the ch341a programmer as well as the new w25x80avaiz, is sewn with a correct content check (but the computer does not start with it). I was asked to ask her for the first time in advance, as I was told, “by removing protection” (I have no idea how and what was meant). Itself personally saw how on the first day it was impossible to remove the dump through Postal. On the second day, "the protection was removed," the chip was recorded, and the computer started up.

So, I remind you, there are two identical chips: one is sewn correctly, but does not work, and the second is new, it does not pass the content check after recording. I take the firmware from here:
https://www.asus.com/m…/P5K_SE/HelpDesk_BIOS/

Maybe the chip is defective?

* Fomkin,
The same answer was answered in Asus support:
The BIOS files for updating (downloaded from the site) and the BIOS for the programmer are different. It is necessary to use the so-called BIOS dump. And dumps are provided only to service centers.

I do not agree with them here, since my old chip was successfully stitched twice with different programmers, namely .roms downloaded from the site. In both cases, the BIOS version corresponds to the .rom versions.

I do not agree with them here, because

Your opinion is good, but ...
A dump is the complete content of a microcircuit, with all registers, service data and user data. Offsite ROM files are only the main "engine" of the BIOS. The services, registers and user data are not there.
Now the reason (most likely) of your belief that the stitched rom on the old version works.
With firmware, the microcircuit is not erased completely, but changes the area that is in the stitched rom file. The whole office remains with all the manipulations in place. And in the new chip it is physically not.
The datasheet did not look at the microcircuit - are they exactly 3 volts?

On the Asus site there is only a “piece” of firmware - a bios-region.
It is enough to "sew" to it the necessary data from the old dump and clean ME with the required configuration.

Shaman, decipher, please, for me, the man in the street, what do you mean by registers and help.
User data? I in BIOS only change the order of boot-devices.

A month ago, I was asked to flash an old chip on the programmer with a .rom-file version 0901. The computer worked for two days, but the Internet was gone. "Sluzhebka" frayed, what do you think? The BIOS was exactly the version 0901. Do you think that the programmer did not completely erase the chip?

A week ago, the ch341a programmer came to me, and since the computer was not working, I flashed the old .rom chip of version 1008. The computer went through about 20 reboots and time to check the BIOS version, believe me, was enough. Do you think that the programmer ch341a does not completely wipe out spi flash drives?

It also became clear from your words that the programmer ch341a makes shallow dumps once they coincide with the contents of the .rom files, leaving the "utility, registers and user data" outside their contents. Confirm or disprove please.

You read my first post. The problem is that on the purchased chip, the contents are different from the buffer of the flash driver program (see screen 1). After all, you will not argue that this is due to the allegedly incorrect dump (.rom-firmware downloaded from the official website of Asus)?

The seller claims that he checked the operation of the chip on the tl866 programmer by conducting an operation of erasing, reading and writing.

Datashit watched this literature requiring special knowledge. Did not bother. The modification of the programmer, described in the manual, is relevant only for W25Q64FV. It can be seen that the author of this fix really worked with datasheet and gained experience.

Are you asking 3 volt spi w25x80 flash drives? Those. Does the ch341a programmer work with them? And you did not come across such microcircuits (or maybe a programmer)? Works. Voltage in screen 2.
Strange questions, however, after a series of statements (theories, as you clarified), including my "belief that the stitched rom on the old version works."

Not come here to chat here, but so far it only turns out. When I check the purchased chip on another programmer or buy a new one, I will unsubscribe. So far, essentially small.

For now, essentially not enough

So far, you have no understanding of the principles of work, not even 1%, you have written a lot, but this is more like a delusion.
Let's put it on your fingers, a flash drive is a glass, a BIOS is a cocktail of many ingredients (UEFI modules, ME region, etc.) Suppose you take a cocktail from another proven working glass and pour it into your empty 1: 1. This will be called uploading a dump that includes the ME region already configured for another hardware, DMI data unique to each laptop, well, this is the type of MAC address, SLIC activation key for Windows, serials and other shnyaga. And of course, the main region of the UEFI BIOS software code, which consists of dozens or hundreds of different modules, such as video chip support, etc. Compiled into a single file
If you downloaded from the developer’s site only an update, then it’s like you’ve got a cocktail from one type of ingredient just water. The update can affect only the main code or only the ME region. The point is that the update is written by software under the OS, and written in the specific specified address spaces, and not from the beginning of the flash and not in its entirety.

Earlier, before the arrival of UEFI, full-fledged BIOS dumps were laid out on the websites, because then the BIOS did not have a modular structure, and most of them did not contain unique information for a specific laptop / mother.

Now everything is different. So delve into how to prepare a cocktail, or use dumps from third-party resources.
By the way, a dump with a clean ME region and cleaned up unique data is called an engineering BIOS. This is so for understanding terminology.

How to understand what file is in front of you? Just if the file size before the byte coincides with the size of the flash drive - this is a dump. If the size is less than this update, if more then either update or engineering dump of two physical flash drives (main and ME).

Now, about the flash drive, the structure of them in most cases is identical and can be compared with a regular glass, that you can pour it there, the main thing is that everything coincides in volume and does not overflow. After the dump is uploaded, a comparison is made with the standard (the file that was uploaded) with the usual readout of the flash drive, and if after the readout all the bytes coincided, it means everything was flooded correctly.

Flash drives are mostly identical and it is often quite acceptable to put a larger flash drive than the source from another manufacturer and with a different label. But there are some nuances such as QuadSPI, UID area, bus frequency, supply voltage, WhiteList BIOS for the type of permissible USB flash drive manufacturers. But these nuances are a separate large article.

After all, you will not argue that this is due to the allegedly incorrect dump (.rom-firmware downloaded from the official website of Asus)?

Above you answered on the topic, I see no point in repeating. Open the datasheet on the microcircuit, compare the number of bytes that this microcircuit has with the number of bytes that you put in there. (for reference, if the amount of data being poured exceeds the memory size, the tail is added from the beginning).
I see no further sense of flood. If the network is built-in, then the Internet can be “lost” due to resetting the mac of the network address, which in many (but not all) of the laptops is located in the BIOS. MAC reset - network lost. On laptops from the asus of 09-12, this is quite a frequent phenomenon.
Also in the gland there may still be faults that overwrite the data in spi.
Globally - infused data should not differ from the original. If you understand what exactly in the source you pour.

Demonis, you just did not see what my motherboard and BIOS chip was before writing a comment. By the way, the tone of your message changes from emotional to good.

I remind you that I have old hardware and BIOS: the motherboard is Asus p5k se (not UEFI), the chip is Winbond 25x80 avaiz (8M-bit / 1M-byte / 1,048,576 byte). Firmware from Asus site - also 1M-byte.

Shaman, you are right, erased MAC. I saw the YouTube utility for setting the MAC-a from under DOS-a, but it turned out to fix the problem in another way: I connected the tablet as a USB modem, copied its MAC and indicated it in the Network Address property of the network adapter driver.

On the purchased chip, the contents of any .rom-a are simply not correctly recorded (see the screen in the previous message), which is what I’m talking about from the first post.

a small clarification - before the procedure of filling the necessary data a larger chip is necessarynecessarilywipe completely - to avoid and all that ...

just not correctly recorded

Cut a small piece of the file, and practice on it. After erasing all FF, after recording - must be the same. (a piece of the file is needed short so that it would be easy to identify the discrepancy with the eyes) If it is erased, but not written, first of all, the tester is in hand and check the power on the legs, checking with the datasheet. Maybe the 1117th died, maybe the Chinese pictures were deceived.

a larger chip must be wiped

Even more I will say, when working on the programmer, erasing any flash drive before flashing is necessary. And this operation is performed automatically in most cases. The reason is that the programmer does not partially sew a flash drive, but only the entire volume.

Now about the "rally" firmware. If you recorded a dump and verified it successfully, then there should be no problems with a flash drive. If after the firmware verification fails to address specific addresses, this is damage to the memory structure. Only replacement flash drive. If the recording does not go at all, or verification fails starting from 0 byte, it is most likely the problem not of flash drives, but of the programmer, software (in terms of the cluttered software) or the "programmer" (which is most likely).

The fact that there is no recording on the purchased chip can be a lot of reasons. But most likely they simply did not remove the write protection from the software. Or software is clumsy Chinese.
