Autorotate display is performed using the accelerometer. Gyro is the most accurate method to find out the position in the smartphone space. It is necessary for some applications and games, but to be honest, I do not know all the intricacies of this sensor. The Haier G7s gyro does not exactly have that confirmed by various tests.
