Description:
Orgzly is a tool for taking notes and keeping to-do lists. You can store notebooks in text format and synchronize them with the catalog of your mobile device, SD card or Dropbox.

Notebooks are saved in the Org mode file format. "Org mode is designed to store notes, maintain to-do lists, plan projects and create documents with a fast and efficient text system."

1. Sync notebooks

You can store your notepads in Dropbox or synchronize them with the catalog on your device.

Notebooks are written as text files in file format.Org mode.

The synchronization is currently manual - you have to start it yourself by pressing the buttonSynchronization. The button is located in the navigation menu.

• Types of storage

Dropbox

You must specify a storage for storing your notebooks.

• Go toSettings
  
• ClickSynchronization

• Enter the directory inside Dropbox (without the “Dropbox” part)

Device (Local Storage)

Notebooks can be synchronized with one or more directories on your device.

• ClickOverviewand select (or create a new) directory

• Status messages

After synchronization is complete, each notepad will receive a status message.

Do not change

Notepad is already synchronized. Nothing to do.

Notepad does not have a link and one or more deleted notebooks with the same name already exist.

Orgzly does not know which remote notepad to use for synchronization.

Each notebook should have a link to the deleted notebook. The link is usually set automatically after the first synchronization. However, there are times when this is not possible, or when the link is deleted.

A link cannot be created after the first synchronization if:

• A notebook was created in Orgzly, but there is already a deleted notebook with the same name in one of the repositories.
  
• Several storages are used, and they have a notebook with the same name.

The link is removed when:

• Store renamed or deleted

The link can be set manually:

• Open the list of notebooks (Notebooks)
  
• Long press on notepad
  
• ClickSet link
  
• Select storage
  
• ClickSet

The link is set if you can see the URL next to the small icon in the notepad information.

Notepad has no link and there are several repositories.

Cm.Notepad does not have a link and one or more deleted notebooks with the same name already exist.

Both local and remote notebooks have been changed.

If you change the notepad in Orgzly and at the same time (before performing the synchronization), you change the linked remote notepad, the next sync will leave the notepad in a conflicted state.

When a notebook is not synchronized due to a conflict, you have two options:

• Force downloadto import a remote laptop and overwrite the local version
  
• Force savefor exporting a local laptop and rewriting a remote version

These actions are available in the notepad context menu:

• Open the list of notebooks (Notebooks)
  
• Long press on the notepad to open the menu

There is currently no other way to resolve the conflict within Orgzly itself.

Manually merging two conflicting files when using Dropbox

When local and remote notebooks have been changed in Dropbox storage, you can take advantage of the fact that Orgzly stores information in text files (in the Org file format) and that Orgzly will create a new copy of the file if you delete it from Dropbox.

For example, you can transfer the original primary .org file to Dropbox to another directory, and then request Orgzly to synchronize the files again (which will force Orgzly to create a new file (with the same file name)). Then you can use an external tool (for example, the diff program) to compare the source file and the file Orgzly created. You can then determine which changes have been made and which ones you want to save.

Be sure to remember that the new file (created by Orgzly) is where you want to place your final, merged version of the file.

Generated org files

Compared to your original Org files, files created by Orgzly may differ in the number of spaces described below. Any other difference will be considered a serious mistake.

• By default, tags are separated from the title by a single space character. . You will lose the tag indent, as if you had org-tags-column equal to 0 .
  
  • You can change the tag column in the application settings, which should behave exactly the same asorg-tags-column.
    
  • It is also preferable to make the tag column output compatible with org-indent-mode.
  
  
• Unsupported metadata below header are part of note content. As soon as any unsupported metadata is detected, the lines from this point to the next header will be considered part of the content of the note. You may find an unexpected new line between supported and unsupported metadata, since the content of a note is usually separated from the header by a new line.

Links can be used in the title or content of the note. Links may be enclosed in brackets (for example, [[link]] ). You can specify a name that will be displayed instead of a link (for example, [[link] [name]] ).
