If the dialog box does not appear at boot time, it means that it is more likely that the software simply does not see the firmware file. Make sure that the file is copied to the root of the flash drive and is called: firmware.bin
I usually flash in the car with the power cable connected. Once I tried to flash when powered by micro-USB. In all cases, no problems arose.
