  • CPU # 2: Quantenna QT3840BC @ 500MHz (2 cores)
  • RAM # 1: 256 Mb
  • RAM # 2: 128 Mb
  • Flash Memory # 1: 128 Mb
  • Flash memory # 2: 64 Kb
  • 2.4 GHz WiFi: Broadcom BCM4360 (3x3 MIMO, 802.11b / g / n)
  • 5 GHz WiFi: Quantenna QT2518B (4x4 MU-MIMO, 802.11a / n / ac)
  • 4x 1Gbit LAN, 1x USB 3.0 (front), 1x USB 2.0 (rear)

Firmware
  • Asuswrt firmware - the original official firmware from Asus, which comes with the router. Current and previous versions can be found here: https://www.asus.com/r…87U/HelpDesk_Download/

  • Custom firmware Asuswrt-Merlin - firmware from R. Merlin, based on the original, while containing bug fixes, current versions of components, performance optimization, additional functions. Current and previous versions can be found here: http://asuswrt.lostrealm.ca/download

  • Custom firmware Asuswrt-HGG - firmware from Hugo Gomes, based on Asuswrt-Merlin. It differs from the previous one in that access to NVRAM is unlocked, some components are added, the maximum power of the wireless transmitter is increased, all wireless channels are unlocked, and the functionality is increased. The latest version of the firmware can be obtained by writing to him by e-mail (in English / Spanish): [email protected] . The guy is kind and helpful. Bug reports are welcome.
P.S. Due to the fact that Hugo was kidnapped by aliens, it is impossible to rely on him to get the firmware. Latest versions available for download. here . The old version of Quantenna firmware is used in OLDQTN firmware - it is for those who have problems with fresh firmware.

  • DD-WRT firmware - is a 100% alternative firmware ( NOT based on the original). It has its pros and cons compared to the original. Recommended for installation only with the full knowledge of why you really need it. Current and previous versions can be found here: ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/

!!! Custom firmware is strongly recommended to flash usingAsus Firmware Restoration Utility. If you were stitching through the web interface, it is strongly recommended to do a reset. You will have to re-enter the settings manually - the configuration files cannot be used, since This may lead to bugs and instability of the firmware.

How to use Asus Firmware Restoration Utility
  1. First we need to download and install it. Find it here:https://www.asus.com/r…87U/HelpDesk_Download/
  2. After installation, go to the properties of the network card and manually enter the addresses:IP address 192.168.1.10, Subnet mask 255.255.255.0, main gate 192.168.1.1
  3. Turn off the router button
  4. Insert the network cable into the LAN port 2, 3 or 4
  5. Hold the reset button (next to the power button) for 10 seconds
  6. Holding the button down, turn on the router
  7. When the power indicator flashes slowly - the reset button can be released
  8. Open our utility, select the firmware file and flash

All about overclocking
You can overclock the router in two ways:CFE bootloader editingorthrough parameter changes in NVRAM.

First way Universal and suitable for any firmware - the main disadvantage of this method is that if you use redundant or incorrect settings to restore the router to a working state, you will have to use a programmer or UART. This principle during overclocking uses the program ac87utility - with its help, overclocking is much easier and safer for new users in this business.

Second way will work NOT on all firmware. Apply only on the following firmware: drain and merlin - version up to 378.53, gomez - all versions. The main advantage lies in the fact that all applied changes can be easily reset with the Reset button. Yes, and fuss less. How it's done:
  • Go to the terminal
  • To get the current values, drive in the following:
    nvram get clkfreq

  • To change the current values by, say, "1400,800" we drive the following command:
    nvram set clkfreq = 1400,800

  • After we have made all the desired changes in NVRAM, they need to be saved and for their entry into force you need to restart the router:
    nvram commit
    reboot

!!! When accelerating the router, carefully monitor the temperatures. And although the maximum allowable temperature of the processor is 125 degrees, it is strongly recommended not to raise it above 100 degrees.

In the header, the settings for supposedly kosher work wifi immediately lead to the fact that all devices stop sleeping, and on older devices it falls off.
And even after the firmware on the extreme merlin, my USB 3.0 quacked, the flashing does not help yet.

And explain why in the point to restore the factory settings two buttons?

Guys, tell me, everyone on this device 2.4 has a weaker network than 5 or just me. Firmware stock.

* vvs96,
Law of physics.
The higher the transmission frequency (MHz), the lower the signal level, ceteris paribus, compared with a transmitter transmitting at a lower frequency.
In other words, the longer the radio wave, the farther it hits.
And vice versa.
Short waves are more absorbed by obstacles than long ones.
That is why we hear the neighbor's subwoofer (bass wavelength 2 meters) and do not hear treble (wavelength several centimeters).
HOWEVER, a higher frequency has a more stable transmission structure.
......
And with regards to your case - there are a lot of reasons.
Starting from the receiver in your gadget and ending with the antennas in the same gadget.

Tell me, today I discovered that all the port forwarding rules on Merlin 384.9 firmware were gone
it’s just that there’s not a single rule in the corresponding tab, although everything worked even in the afternoon.
Restarted rocker via web? but it didn’t start up - the power lights up, wan, lan after a while everything goes out and in a circle
asus utilities do not find it; firmware recovery does not find the router.
Is it possible to restore it? Or is it a corpse?

1. Measure the output voltage on the power supply unit of the router.
On the standard (native) power supply should be 19v.
If the voltage is significantly different, replace the power supply.
Suitable from a laptop on 19v 2-4 A, or 12v 2-4 A (preferred).
2. Replace the electrolytic capacitor in the power circuit in the router itself.
This capacitor is a weak point in the router. As a rule, 90% of the unstable operation of the router is precisely because of it.
3. The recovery utility from Asus will not see the router until you manually enter the address in the network card settings MANUAL. Read the instructions from the utility, everything is intelligibly written in it.
Of course, you first need to clear the RAM of the router.

* Peshehot,
The first thing I thought about it - BP gives 19.3v
on the computer manually set the ip mask and gateway as in the instructions
Now I’m still trying another universal PSU (4.6A, set to 19v), but with it the same picture
for a split second, 2-3-4 lans and power light up, then the power is on and the lan which is connected to the computer quickly flashes
then everything goes out and at this time the computer says that the cable is not connected and again everything is new.
Connected via uart

Your campaign flash memory fell off. Wait for the guys who rummage in the line.

already restored - some kind of glitch nvram was
1. turned on with clamped reset
2. On the computer, I launched the tftp client and uploaded the firmware through it, the router absorbed it, but when it rebooted, it went into the loop again
3. turned on with wps clamped - cleaned nvram and the router came to life.

I’ve done pretty much the same, the MGTS modem can be driven into bridge mode and then it will simply be a media converter, but it didn’t work for me normally.
As a result, I assigned on the DMZ modem to the asus and the grid in the range of 172.16, which would not conflict with the asus 192

Which of the oldest Merlins is the most stable? I'm sick of constantly falling off the Internet

Merlin 380.70
But something is thought that the matter is not in the firmware, but in the settings of the router.
Especially if it falls off via a WiFi connection.

Nothing is connected via cable, from the settings only open vpn is constantly spinning, transmission is installed and diversion
The Internet is falling off, it is being treated by rebooting, it can try to make a wipe and not put anything more .. see a few days on the behavior

1. The temperature on the processor at the time of "dump"?
2. Lost on ALL clients? On both WiFi bands?
3. How often does the Internet disappear? (morning, afternoon, evening, every hour, every day ..?)
4. When a client connects through a wire, does the Internet also disappear?

Is there any statistics, or JUST LOSSES HELP?

mmm, I now have a RV6699 DMZ on Synology NAS, and I configured ASUS as an Access Point so that there is a single grid, the speed over Wi-Fi according to Speedtest is even slightly higher than the one stated at the tariff. And with NAS via FTP, the speed with an iPhone is 22MB / s
