F.A.Q. (first 150 pages of the topic in 80 questions and answers)
mini-FAQ TOP-10 topical issues
  1. Differences of different modifications : Сarta 1-2, Carta + / 2 +, Darwin 1-6, Dontsova, Magellan 3, Vasco da Gama 1-3 - in the FAQ .
  2. New!To the right of the clock in the system panel appeared button-indicator [<>], when pressed, changes to [+ -] : switch the mode of operation of the physical side buttons page turning - volume control appeared in firmware 1.7.0 - including, to ensure compatibility with third-party reader applications that can flip through the volume buttons, but do not understand commands PAGE_UP / PAGE_DOWN (fbreader, kindle and others); the indicator was hidden on readers without audio output up to firmware 1.8.3-mc, but accumulated Problems and developers did not find another solution how to stop hiding it
  3. What is and how does the snow field work: in the FAQ and in discussion from 143 pages
  4. Normal running time for a 3000mAh battery according to distributor information: 25 hours of reading with occasional use of the backlight, without using Wi-Fi, or about 2 weeks of continuous sleep mode without using the device. Official recommendations on the advisability of “swinging” a new battery into a 3-4 full discharge cycle — charges by many users are disputed as irrelevant for the type of battery used. Slightly more .
  5. Up!Hide the black status bar with the clock - in OReader switch to full-screen mode (1) tap on the upper center of the text - "full screen" or (2) settings - basic - start in full screen. For other applications
  6. Replacing regular screensavers: In the regular file manager, a long tap on the file with your picture - set as a screen saver for the sleeper - the N sleep screen / device off screen. Read more
  7. My fonts : for standard reader programs, place in the "fonts" folder in the root of the internal memory - create if there is none ( A little more in the FAQ )
  8. Not enough memory to install applications: manufacturer's decision
  9. Read pdf / djvu: (not) is convenient as well as on other readers 6 ". Which application is better to open pdf / djvu
  10. To search screen marking for replacing broken - it is better to request screen marking by reader’s serial number in technical support MakTsentr but it may not be so easy .
Known bugs and features - TOP-5
  1. Some installed applications do not work.
    Applications do not work "in the background"; when selecting an application for opening a book / file, the installed applications are not listed; The applications are disabled and run only by a shortcut from the list of applications. At the same time, the launch message first appears - this is how the new energy-saving "reader mode" from Onyx Boox developers works
    On firmware: 1.8.2-mc-test 2018-02 ... The ability to disable the so-called "reader mode" and switch to "tablet mode" appeared in later beta firmware 1.8.2-mc-test 2018-03 .. in settings: power management - enable third-party services and applications - reboot
  2. Problems in the shell of the book when using AlReader:
    AlReader does not update the last open book on the start screen; does not appear in the selection menu as a program for opening fb2; after opening a book file in AlReader, its cover is no longer displayed on the main screen, and the file disappears from the library and other manifestations of incomplete compatibility of AlReader with the changing Onyx Boox SDK
    On firmware: 1.7.5-mc-1.8.3 Conflict AlReader and OReader when updating the database of readable books. Workaround: (1) use the current version of AlReader and its built-in capabilities without integration with the Onyx shell or (2) reset the settings, use only AlReader, enable interaction with the Onyx desktop in its settings, and never run OReader or (3) orupdate OReaderto the latest version - starting from 1.73, many settings from AlReader have been added (returned) to the application. Comments in the topic AlReader:-1-, -2- -3-; -4-
  3. On the reader without sound support, when you press the paging buttons, a volume control appears
    On firmware: 1.7.5-mc - 1.8.2-mc.Bypass. Resolved in 1.8.3-mc
  4. The regular library does not index zip archives (for example, .fb2.zip books)
    On firmware: 1.8.0-1.8.2. Bypass:1, 2. Reportedly resolved in current -mc firmware
  5. The clock in the system status bar shows the reader’s activation time and is not updated.
    On the firmware: 1.8.2 – mc 2017-12-28. Not to be confused with normal behavior (the clock is updated only when the screen is active); in this case, a reboot is required for the update. Not yet decided.
  6. Auto-shutdown settings are reset after reboot to "manual"
    On firmware: 1.8.2-mc. Reportedly resolved in firmware 1.8.2 – mc 2017-12-28
  7. Smart coverstableputs the reader into sleep mode from the second time: the cover must be closed, opened, then closed again
    On firmware: 1.8.2-mc - ??? Not to be confused with normal behavior (the reader may fall asleep when you open the cover) or hardware problems (the cover does not work at all, or it works, it does not). Should be decided in later firmware.
Other
For brevity, details are omitted. Bugs can occur only in specific conditions.
  • New readers with support for Snow Field in the settings of the pre-installed OReader do not have the Snow Field option (in the General section)
    On firmware: 1.8.1-mc. Bypass -update OReader. Resolved in new installments
  • Do not install custom sleep screensavers
    On firmware: 1.8.2-mc. Bypass, depending on the cause: (1) use regular, not alternativeway to install images; (2) before updating the firmware, flash the image with a new markup from the computer - an increased space for system and user applications (in the FAQ); (3) try another firmware
  • Book covers are not displayed.
    On firmware: 1.8.0-1.8.2. Workaround - (problem fb2.zip support) -1, 2. Not yet decided.
    On firmware: 1.8.2-mc. Bypass - before upgrading, flash the firmware with the new markup (in the FAQ). Not yet decided.
  • When rescanning a full-time library, it closes with an error
    On firmware: 1.8.2-mc. Workaround - roll back to the previous version. Not yet decided.
  • Unable to install / update FBReader. the system is pre-modified
    On firmware: 1.6.x - 1.8.1. Bypass -in the FAQ. Mod FBReader excluded from firmware 1.8.2 (1.8.1-mc)
  • Books with DRM do not open, DRM item disappeared in settings
    On firmware: 1.8.1-mc-1.8.2. Bypass -install the first version of the Onyx Neo Reader. Resolved in 1.8.2 (later versions)
  • Despite the installation of a custom screensaver in sleep mode, the first one still displays the system
    On firmware: 1.7.5.Bypass. Resolved in 1.7.5 (later versions)
  • In regular applications, it is impossible to create a new Google account.
    On firmware: 1.7.2-mc-1.7.5-mcBypass. Resolved in 1.7.5-mc (later versions)

comfort - car, compared with the wires!

But, not quality. BT-headphones are of lower quality than wired ones.

As far as I know there is a problem not in the coppé part, but in a different rate of duty for the device with and without audio. And there is not a penny for one device.

I didn’t know, but I still don’t think that the difference is great, because phones that cost one thousand rubles are sold, and they have an audio output and a speaker. Although again I can be wrong. In any case, life goes on and the lack of an audio jack is no reason not to buy a device that is generally comfortable and there are no alternatives anyway.
Ps. I now have Newton, there is a mini (but not micro) USB connector for charging} -). I think duties here have nothing to do with it :).

* Shadow,
But the cable is cheaper. Previously, Micro yusb exotics were, and mini yusb on every corner sold!)))) Newton, though new, but this hello from those times, just decided not to change the design, the body itself for many years. 3-4 years exactly.

Today I bought Darwin. I was personally convinced of what I had read in reviews before - the contrast of the screen can strongly depend on a specific sample. Compared to the Newton I have (the Carta screen is also there), the substrate is not any whiter (or even barely darker, it's hard to say with just your naked eye), but the font is very noticeably blacker. Just very. On Newton, the visual contrast was no better than on my old Nuk, only the screen is much whiter, but the font was gray. So the advice to everyone who will buy - try to hold the device in your hands, if the store has several copies - compare with each other.

* Shadow,
In the topic of Magellan 2, I compared Newton and Darwin. Absolutely agree with you.
Although, in theory, Newton should be cooler, because there is an infrared screen, it is without a sensor film, unlike the capacitive one. But in reality this is not visible. And yet, the backlight. Newton is yellow. Well, about speed, I think, you made sure that I wrote everything correctly :)
I have Darwin, and the girl Newton, is compared regularly, so it turns out. Here is Machelan 2 upset. The screen is completely gray compared to both Newton and Darwin. Therefore, when Darwin began to be sold, Magellan 2 immediately sold and bought Darwin. And Newton left, a great book. For reading the most it.

The widespread opinion about the effect of capacitive film is in fact greatly exaggerated.

Here is Machelan 2 upset. A completely gray screen compared to both Newton and Darwin

Darwin has not yet seen, but the second Magellan compared to Newton - in my opinion the screen is whiter, and I use it. may be different pariahs of the second Magellan ...

* Alan,
Maybe. I could not use Magellan 2 without illumination at all. Well, actually 2 books were laying, Newton and Magellan 2 and I understood that I wanted to read from Newton. I do not know, maybe the fact is that Magellan 2 was in my white color ... But I never had any complaints about Captain Nemo. He was also white.
Or maybe I have such eyes and a yellow backing is more comfortable for me than a gray one.

Maybe this is not quite on the topic, but in Newton, literally from all the cracks, its Chinese origin, in the worst sense of the word, protruded. Starting from a square with a logo crookedly sewn to the case and ending through a curved battery charge controller. Impressions of Darwin while purely positive.

* Shadow,
I never paid attention to these things! In general, Captain Nemo's case was with an ordinary rubber band!))) But I was happy, because the case would have been included. Others did not offer anything at all. Search where you want. Putting a book with the smallest screen without a cover is to order a road to service.
I was always fascinated by the boxes, their beautiful names (well, seriously, Captain Nemo, Duncan, Aurora, instead of dull indices) and a very high-quality screen (light substrate and high-quality sensor) with a pleasant interface. That is why just fuse on Onyx in 2012.
Now, of course, still more "combed". But for me, it’s better to have a Chinese one from all the cracks than an American redneck. All of these built-in stores and restrictions in the formats ... The praised Kindles with Nuk are greatly overestimated, in my opinion. IMHO, nothing more. Onyxes have always been easier, but just took and use.
And now added a stylish case and a large amount of memory and stylish covers. And this is all on Android, with full support for all formats and even a memory card. In my opinion, now they have absolutely the best books. And they are cheaper Poketov. Still, putting a camera in a book is probably more important than putting a case.
This is a personal opinion. When once again broke the screen, Nemo again began to shovel the market leaders. Chose Magellan 2. Now I realized that I hurried. But Darwin, what I was looking for. For me personally, everything is perfect, from the case to the interface. And the screen. Pleased. By the way, for me, the body is really one of the best. It is all thin and the buttons in place.

Only, guys, I do not specifically praise the book, I just really liked the gadget, I haven’t had such satisfaction for a long time, everything is boring. A similar feeling was after buying Crafter D6 acoustic guitar! :)

Comrades and gentlemen forum.
I have a hard time choosing which book to take: Darwin or Gmini MagicBook A6LHD.
The screen is the same for both, the backlight, the case and the android, the processor and memory are also identical. True battery in Gmini MagicBook 2800. Tell me, please, which one is better and more trouble-free !!!
Thank you in advance.

If it's not a money issue, then definitely Darwin. If you want experiments, toys with firmware, then definitely Gmini MagicBook A6LHD.
