The ASUS DSL-N12U ADSL2 + router enables wireless Internet access using an existing ADSL network. This device is equipped with a built-in USB-port, which is used to connect peripheral devices: 3G / 4G modem, printer or scanner. These devices can use all computers connected to the network. This model is universal, as it can function as a router or ADSL modem. Applications of Annex standards extend the capabilities of the incoming stream and increase its speed to 24 Mbps. ASUS DSL-N12U has a standard Wi-Fi module and 2 external removable antennas, which amplify the signal by 5 dBi. Due to this, the connection speed can reach 300 Mbps. Asus tech support wrote to me that 12u does not support repeater mode (and there is no it in the webmord). Theoretically, you can raise per vrt, but that no one wants to share

For the firmware you will need to connect to the router board (https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/asus/dsl-n12u)and sew through the second U-boot mode. Since neither through the web-muzzle, nor through the recovery utility, the firmware will not be flashed - Wrong PID / wrong product id (in the console)

Unfortunately I did not manage to flash the router, because in 2 mode U-boot LAN ports did not work (there was no indication on the router, there was no link on the network card, left for an hour - deaf, tftp worked and the file was available). Although the author of the article on HabrГ© all worked. But I have a used piece of hardware, the DSL port does not work at all.
I continue to look for solutions to the error Wrong PID / wrong product id ...

Good day!

I have a cheap USB UART adapter, I have no problems with the console - the output goes, the input of commands also works.

Moreover, I still stitched the firmware I received - I had to perform some manipulations with the firmware file:
for a start, using Cygwin, I collected mkimage (in the source folder of the Asus firmwares offspring), then in the HEX editor I deleted the header from the resulting file (first 64 bytes), “setted” mkimage to the binarik (naturally, with the same parameters as the original Header , checked by binwalk) - I got a file that was easily flashed through the recovery utility (it’s likely that it will also be flashed through the web-face).

But after rebooting, the router did not take off - such sections as kernel, rootfs (and further) were not mounted, it seems to have to dig further :)

In PuTTY, the speed is 57600, the rest is by default.

If the problems with the display of the text, then, most likely, confused RX and TX - try to change them.

In OpenWrt for sure. In the original firmware - no.

Well, if a cable is planned between the TV set and the router, the router should not be configured in repeater mode, but in bridge mode.
