I have been using my 710 for 2 years, but I have never set the alarm. :) I ran through the instructions but did not find such a function, what is called an alarm in the instructions - these are sound signals during training (going out of the heart rate, lap, pause when stopping, etc.)
You can also look at the squareGarmin Forerunner 35with built-in heartbeat sensor. Perhaps there is an alarm clock.

I connected a third-party heart rate monitor - it works (from Spovan), only it is necessary in the clock settings to put a tick in front of the HR Measurement. Somewhere half a year I thought that it was not working (I saw the smartphone, and showed, and the clock connected, but the data did not show) until a good person prompted me to go into the menu and activate the pulse. :) Live and learn. The clock is really valid. I see no competitors, except Suunto or Garmin with monochrome displays, but their price is not adequate.
