1. KAV was used in the late 90s until around 2000.
I didn’t like that this anti-virus had such a life-cycle stage: it slowed down the system, but somehow unevenly - the PC is worn like mad, but then suddenly it almost stops on level ground.
Experimentally calculated - this is KAV.
For this reason, from 2000 to 2015, I use DrWeb.

KAV is used only as a KAV LiveCD and as a free utility for one-time PC checking.
I think that really KAV has long since recovered from the "unevenness" of the speed of protecting the PC ... But I never returned to it as a resident of the Windows system.

2. I have been using DrWeb anti-virus since 2000 and up to now.
Good antivirus! The system speed slows down, but somehow evenly, without sudden jumps.
One of the first to introduce an anti-spam module in the middle of the 2000s.

And most importantly.
This antivirus can almost always be used almost legally and free then!
Until 2013 (in my opinion) there were journal keys.
All 2014 I spent on promotional keys.
And now, from the end of January to the end of April, I am sitting on a demo key with a length of 3 months.
Let's see what will happen in May! In principle, the favorite DrWeb never failed - maybe there will be some kind of action. Or maybe the journal key can be obtained. :)

3. Avast to friends teapots I put only in view of the fact that it is free.
This is for those friends who, at one time, could not even set the journal key on their own!
I have two claims to the Avast free version:
- nevertheless quite often catches plumes. DrWeb protects more reliably;
- too picky for many harmless software. Sometimes without a temporary shutdown, Avast doesn’t install, say, any software from a freshly smoked scanner. Or the firewood does not allow to install on the piece of iron.

In general, the main advantage is that there is officially a free version.

4. Norton Antivirus - a piece of rock. The brake is terrible, and it protects not better than KAV or DrWeb.
By the way, it seems they don’t do it?

5. Nod32 never set. I can not say anything.
6. I don’t trust Microsoft free antivirus software. Softmaker-maker certainly does antivirus-maker! :)

Finally, the main thing.
On one of my 4 PCs, Linux finally got accustomed - Runtu.org 14.04.1 LITE.
Well, guys, at last I felt that such a perfectly protected system with cosmic speed of work!

I think that with time I will transfer my second laptop to Runtu.
But the wife and daughter will be sitting on Windows: one needs the usual business software, and the other needs games.

I, for example, use Kaspersky as a network screen and on-the-fly scanner on duty, but when I sleep, I start scanning (I reboot the computer into safe mode) with scanners that are much more serious than from the Kaspersky package Malwarebytes "and" Emsisoft "(the latter is essentially a modified Bitdefender). In general, I plan to switch to "Comodo" as protection on the fly - there the network screen is even better than that of Evgeny Mikhailovich, and use the same scanners as mentioned above.
