If multiple applications set the same priority, they can receive messages based on which application is currently running. But what to do if the player (or another application) needs to be launched when the media button is pressed? If it is not running and there are other applications with the same processing priority, the player will not receive a message. Sometimes the mechanism "to send the message to the last one that was executed" is triggered, but it is rather indistinct due to the nature of the system itself. That's why many players artificially set their own priority even higher than allowed in the SDK (let's say, use an undocumented feature). So do and winamp, and poweramp, and mortplayer, and many others. However, even with such an approach, they still unpredictably compete with each other if more than one such player is installed. Different headset controllers (Headset droid, JAYS Headset Control, etc.) use the same method. However, the advantage of such controllers is that they are configurable, they can process very specific sequences of keystrokes, and most importantly, they are able to correctly redirect the messages about pressing the media buttons to a specific application. The mMusic is a completely different approach. It has the priority of processing media messages 0 (the same as the standard android player, not to be confused with the "standard", supplied by different manufacturers). It is assumed that other installed applications do not increase their priority in processing media messages.
