How to use another key when installing a new Windows 8

When installing a third-party copy of Windows 8 (on a computer with a pre-installed version of the system), the serial number is read from the computer's motherboard. To stop this "disgrace" we create in the sources folder
Attached Image

PID.txt file with contents:

[PID]
Value = XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

Where XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX is your activation key.

Now at installation this serial, instead of stitched in UEFI will be used.

What is a Microsoft account and what is it for?

A Microsoft account is an alternative to a regular username with a password to log in to Windows. The main difference between a Microsoft account is the synchronization of operating system settings and applications via the Internet with other computers, where you are logged in with the same account.

How to start using a Microsoft account or return to a local account

Press the buttonSettings - Change computer settings - Users -
Switch to Microsoft account
or
Switch to local account.
Here you can change your password (if you want).

Rep: (2115)
Can I log on to Windows when I am disconnected from the Internet?

Yes. Connection is required only for data synchronization, it does not affect the input to Windows. As soon as the connection appears, the data is synchronized.

Rep: (2115)
What data is synced?

You can customize what will be synchronized:
Press the buttonSettings - Change computer settings - SkyDrive - Sync settings
  • Personalization. Colors, background, lock screen and your avatar
  • Personalize your desktop. Themes, taskbar, high contrast and other options
  • Passwords Login data for some applications, websites, networks, and homegroup
  • Special abilities. Narrator, screen magnifier and other parameters
  • Language settings. Keyboards, input methods, interface language and other parameters
  • Application Settings. Some application settings and files purchased through the application
  • Browser. Options, Journal and Favorites
  • Other Windows options. Explorer and mouse

An interesting and useful feature. When you reinstall Windows, you do not have to spend time setting up some parameters. Settings will automatically be obtained from the cloud storage on the Internet.

What other benefits does a Microsoft account have?

  • Automatic login to modern Windows applications. The ability to easily download and update applications in the Windows store.
  • Data synchronization in modern applications. For example, starting to make a shopping list at home, and placing the file in the SkyDrive service folder on your computer, this file will automatically be sent to the cloud storage on the Internet. You can continue to edit it at work, and then, arriving at the store in the evening, you can view the list on your smartphone or tablet.

If you forget to place the file in the repository, using SkyDrive you can get to it on a remote computer. The main thing is to resolve this possibility in advance.

Where are the button and Start menu now and how to get them back?

In Windows 8, the Start menu is replaced by the initial screen, and in Windows 8.1, the Start button is returned to go to the initial screen.
Attached Image

Here you can pin frequently used applications and access all the applications installed on your computer.
Return the "classic" Start menu is not possible. Alternatively, third-party applications can be used.

Initial screen

The initial screen appears immediately after booting Windows. In Windows 8.1, it became possible to configure the input directly to the desktop (see below).
Attached Image

All the information you need will be collected here.
The initial screen is formed by you. You can attach any tiles here and remove those that you don’t like, move, reduce or enlarge tiles.

The initial screen is automatically complemented by tiles of installed programs.

In Windows 8.1, added several options to customize the start screen (Right mouse button on the taskbar ->Properties):
