Offhand: it does not have its own shell for creating / editing events, it uses either a regular or a third-party calendar. In fact, just a shell is an add-on over a regular calendar. There is no proprietary notification system. I'm here in SE terribly annoyed by a single signal and notification in a line. I need a long alarm with manual shutdown. There is no such thing.
All of its own - shell, notifications, etc. - This is an extra occupied disk space, extra occupied memory, extra extra problems - since you will not delete the stock calendar anyway, so all functions are duplicated.
On the contrary, I try to choose programs that take data and use the resources of stock basic programs (calendar, contacts, messages, calls).
Such programs eat the least and they weigh a little, and in case of problems, the localization of these problems is easier.
