We meet, the first part of the review. yet without pictures. Tomorrow and on Sunday I will write about the software and the experience of war with him (already fought)

Introduction
(for those who need only conclusions, they can skip this section, but for the full picture I still recommend reading)

I have never done reviews before, but always wondered, when reading other people's reviews, why no one indicates the main thing - the reason and prerequisites for purchasing this particular gadget. For example, someone might say that no one needs a tablet without GPS. But this is very subjective. For those tasks that I am ready to entrust to the tablet computer - GPS is not needed, therefore, even if it were, I would not use it, and its presence would not play any role in choosing a device.
Therefore, for a start, I will tell you what tasks the computer was chosen for and why the Samsung 7 Slate PC was purchased, and not for something else.

So, the prerequisites:
My personal laptop broke down. It was a MacBookPro in the maximum configuration, brought 2.5 years ago from the United States. It broke thorough (by the way, quite successfully, as I planned to replace it with something easier and more mobile. The performance of the work computer and the tasks of video processing (I have a hobby such) have faded into the background from the moment I bought iMac as an additional home The corporate laptop, although on the whole, was fine with me, but still annoyed by the lack of key illumination, a poor touchpad, in general I will not scold, because the laptop is still not bad (Dell Latitude E4300), but for many years I got used to Macs (and Mac OS, but that's another story.) On this new laptop, only the tasks of working with office applications, surfing the Internet and rarely watching movies would have to be laid in. In order to eliminate various issues, I would say that I do not have a hard attachment to the OS and at every moment I work with the one that is needed or it’s convenient for a particular case. For home, I prefer Ubuntu and Mac OS for work, due to the corporate limitations and limitations of our IT - Windows.

The selection criteria were as follows:
  1. Mobility (I move a lot within one office center and not only)
  2. Performance (sometimes you have to run something resource-intensive, especially greedy for RAM)
  3. Convenience of operation (here to each his own, for me, for example, the backlight of the keyboard and the diagonal are critical)
  4. HDD capacity (here it is clear that the more - the better)
  5. Communication capabilities (WiFi, USB, any video output for connecting an external monitor or projector)

Initially, just considered a tablet (iPad or Galaxy Tab) as an application to a corporate laptop. But then this idea had to be abandoned due to the fact that access to corporate resources from these devices was not possible with us due to the paranoia of the Security Officers and IT.

Selection:
After studying what was then on the market in stock (September 2011), I came to the conclusion that you need to buy either a Sony Vaio Z or a MacBook Air. But in both cases there were many drawbacks, such that it was not clear - why refuse a corporate laptop and buy mine if in any case I get more hemorrhoids than pleasure from work. (ASUS Eee Slate-type tablets did not pass at least one of the criteria. Most upset by the manufacturer’s choice of processor or 32 gigabytes of ridiculous HDD quality.)
Helped with the choice, as is often the case. A nice tablet with an alpha version of Windows 8 brought us to the company from Microsoft. Twenty minutes of familiarization with this device and the subsequent reading of the Samsung press release put an end to my torment.

Mobility - here without comments, only a notebook with a pen is more portable.
Performance - Core i5 second generation with SSD
Convenience of operation - The concept of "keyboard backlight" and "touchpad" here generally disappears. The dream of my childhood since the time of the ZX Spectrum  The diagonal and resolution in comparison with analogs are also at altitude.
HDD Capacity - not a fountain in comparison with laptops, but for me it is a minimum for comfort, if it were 64 or less - I would not buy it.
Communication capabilities - my minimum - WiFi and USB

Appearance and available connectors.

With the ruler of the desire to measure it, I did not have, and this data is complete and on the official site. Let me just say that it looks stylish and no worse than the tablets on the Androide or the same iPad. The screen is not very marquee, in general, like any tablet. For girls there is a velvet ribbon from the kit. The back panel is very easily stamped and the fingerprints are almost not rubbed off, so you will often have to wash your hands .
I took the device by reservation in the maximum configuration, i.e. There should be everything that the manufacturer promised, but the SIM connector is closed with a plug (i.e. there is no place to insert SIM cards), and the documentation says that it is optional, but I could not find options for selling which clearly indicated the presence of a SIM card slot . I have not tried to open the cap yet, but I have a desire. Suddenly the connector is still present and the whole question is in the right software.
A set of connectors and buttons as follows:
  • 1. On the tablet itself:
    • a. 1 USB
    • b. 1 micro HDMI
    • c. Headphone jack
    • d. There are several built-in microphones, but there is no microphone connector.
    • e. Nutrition
    • f. microSD
    • g. Docking station connector
    • h. Volume rocker
    • i. The power button (depending on the settings can “put to sleep" or off, etc.)
    • j. Screen orientation lock button
    • k. Button that by default calls an alternative launcher - Touch Loncher

  • 2. Dock station:
    • a. LAN
    • b. HDMI
    • c. Nutrition
    • d. USB
    • e. Headphone jack

Right and left on the rear panel there are speakers. It is quite decent for their size, but the films are still better to watch in headphones.

Pre-installed software and Russification

the most delicious I will write tomorrow and on Sunday

Peace to you!

Damn how to be without 3G. How bad. Now I look at this tablet on Amazon, I want to buy the same. However, the lack of 3G is sad. Strix_bak look, you can try to somehow lift the cover off the 3G. Maybe there is still a connector for SIM-ki.

Well, I certainly will not compete with them in the full review.
but they are not the most complete.

Andrei_IW,
I'll try to see what's under the plug

linns,
I will definitely write. while there are first data on sleep mode:during the night (about 8 hours) the battery charge fell by 6%in my opinion a lot.
So far, according to subjective impressions, the battery will not be enough for the stated 7 hours. Windows itself says about 5 hours at 100%. I will note :-)

Wow, wow! Congratulations on your purchase.

If it is not difficult in the review, click on the cooling and heating.
Because there are cooling holes, then I suspect that the cooling system is active, hence the question: if so, then how loud does it buzz? :))))

review on engadget

Incomplete review and even with a lie about the time of work from the battery.
The time of 3 hours on this tablet can be obtained by loading the full processor and the screen brightness to maximum.
By the way, the screen is so bright that its brightness has to be reduced to 40-45% so that the eyes do not cut.
The author of the review cited a table of working hours for different tablets, forgetting for sure that this is the maximum operating time obtained in read mode at a reduced display brightness, while all wireless functions are disabled. So, for this mode, the tablet shows 7 and a half hours. And during real work on the Internet via Wi-Fi at a normal screen brightness of 40-45%, the operation time is 5 hours.
Why all this claim, yes, because I have this tablet since December 7 after I received it by mail from the USA.
The path is similar to the traversedstrix_bak.
November 11, made an order on Amazon, the seller TigerDirect.
On November 17, the tablet came to my mailbox on shipito.com, the 18th package with it went to Russia.
December 1 came to Moscow, passed customs, and on December 7 I received it at the post office in my city.
It took less than a month to complete the time, I had a fear that the parcel would be delayed and fall into the New Year fever period, but fortunately everything worked out.
I look forward to reviewing fromstrix_bakbecause I demolished my native Windows and the whole pile of garbage that was on the disk that evening, so there was only 30 GB left from 64 GB.

Unfortunately, the review is not so much about the tablet, as about win8
I do not recommend to put it, if only not in the professional plan. I saw her and had enough time to evaluate it. the system promises to be very progressive, but now it is raw. Well, quite raw, in fact, only the explorer works)
and the heating and fan noise stated in the review is explained solely by the figure eight. I certainly have a fan on the seven, but it doesn’t make any noise) is subjective, I will try to write more in the review.

Zy- try to answer all your questions. Thank you for your interest. Today I’ll definitely not finish, I think tomorrow after 13 I’ll post what I’m doing, and in the week I’ll add if there are additional questions.

PS - in general, I can say that in spite of some, albeit the expected drawbacks, the general impressions are positive.

Zyy - recovery section, in which all the distributions of installed software, including Windows, are located, I already have 20 gigs. This is a logical partition of the disk and can be cleaned and used separately or attached back to the disk, details tomorrow.

strix_bak,
It seems to me that you have been too thorough with the review. Feel now unbearable burden. Reviews of this pill already exist, with varying degrees of detail and reliability. Just write about your personal impressions, which is convenient, which is inconvenient. By the way, I am writing now with a stylus from handwriting. Although it is clumsy writing, but the recognition works great, it is amazing. Scripture stylus was a pleasure.

Not 680g. and 860g. I think that forty grams hardly such a significant difference, which must inapplicably be found out.

Part 2. Pre-installed software, Russification and other buns
Russian language and input difficulties

I personally did not experience any difficulties, although there were some unpleasant moments.

First moment - this scrolling lists and web pages with your finger. As long as you use standard small-scale applications - no problem (everywhere, be it a Word or windows explore, everything is fine). But, perhaps, the only program to which I harbor extreme hostility, apparently from the time when I was engaged in web development, is Internet Explorer. The only thing I used it for was downloading Google Chrome. And here I was disappointed, scrolling with my finger does not work. However, in 5 minutes an add-on was found to solve this problem. Chrome touch - not only allows you to easily scroll the page with your finger, but does not interfere with copying from text, it also has some good settings.

Second moment - Samsung's additional keyboard "Swype Input Method" does not have Russian. I did not search for a solution (I did not search for it yet), I just took note. For typing with your fingers, it is much more convenient than the standard Windows. This is probably due to the fact that I have been using SGS II for a long time. By the way, the standard Windows keyboard can write in any language supported by Windows and you do not need to perform any “dances with a tambourine”.

Third moment - handwriting. Out of the box only English recognition works. Studying the question showed that it is necessary to install the MUI language pack for the Russian language and everything will work. However, I did not manage to download it from the small-scale site (Windows 7 Home Premium is not enough, you need a better version). While not looking for more, since I personally have enough keyboard for input, or rather I am more familiar. I conducted handwriting recognition system training using standard tools for the English language and I can say with confidence that, despite my handwriting (believe me, I have it as a therapist), recognition is almost 100%. I tried to write a letter in English (I have to work) and from the text page there were only a few incorrectly recognized characters. But the constant wearing of the stylus with me (for some reason it’s impossible to write with my finger, you can write more precisely, but such garbage turns out) is not convenient for me, and I type the text faster on the keyboard.

Yes, it seems that the problem of Russian handwriting can still be solved by installing the PenReader program. Did not check everything for the same reason.

Software from Samsung and Intel
The software from Intel seemed to me as a whole necessary and useful (well, I will not take down the firewood for the camera). So I did not touch him at all. And every day I use the program to control WiFi, or rather I turn the adapter on and off through it (as there is no other way without a keyboard, or without getting into the settings, or without launching the third application). Her icon hangs in the tray, so it is very convenient.

Samsung ... Everything is more complicated. A lot of everything, with the impression that some programs duplicate each other in terms of functionality. Really useful extremely little. More than half deleted after the first launch. But there is something useful. Here's what is left to live on my computer (candidates for deletion are marked additionally):
  1. Easy Migration - not used, but left for the sake of interest, that would be at leisure to study. It takes a little, so then somehow look.
  2. Easy Settings is a useful program like. But it takes a long time to load.
  3. Easy Support Center is just an add-on that allows you to quickly switch to some configuration jungle or launch some useful application. The usefulness of striving for zero, but not deleting it only because it showed an update for the Swype keyboard, which the Easy Software Manager did not show (I understand why).
  4. Easy Software Manager is the only way to check for updates of Samsung software.
  5. Samsung Recovery Solution - I haven’t tried it out yet, so I haven’t decided what to do with it.
  6. Touch Logon - convenient, works without complaints. I like.
  7. Touch Supporter is a useful button bar. With its help, you can run for example Task Manager, which is difficult to do without a keyboard.
  8. Camera - here without comments, otherwise access to the camera is difficult.
  9. Photos is a good photo frame. After a couple of years, when the tablet is hopelessly outdated, I will use it as a photo frame.

Everything else has been removed without regret. Especially Touch Launcher, which so loaded the computer, that he howled with a propeller and warmed himself (by the way, it was the only time the computer really began to heat up, of course, it was far from the first generation MacBook Air, it didn’t burn his hands, but still) "Weather" - the utility is minimal, but it weighs as much as 220 meters!

Additionally installed ... yes except chrome, office software and Skype ...Rainmeter - here is a very useful program. Somewhere onsavagemessiahzine.comI read about it in September. Highly recommend.

Battery

It is good that I delayed the review for several days. I managed to work autonomously, albeit without a stopwatch.

So, overnight in Sleep mode, the charge drops by 5-6% (this is 7-8 hours).
On average, the battery with an average load lasts for 4-5 hours. It is clear that the settings are comfortable for me, as for you - I do not know:
  • 30% of the backlight (for me it is a comfortable level, otherwise it cuts the eyes)
  • Maximum processor performance from battery 50%, minimum 5%
  • WiFi turned off periodically if it worked outside the network coverage area

The impression is that if you only work in the Word, you can live up to 7 hours, but you don’t want to check.
I have enough for now, although I have already ordered a car charger, just in case.

Cooling system

No complaints about the cooling system. If desired, the fan can be turned off altogether, but this is not required. There is a sound, of course, but at night, when there is complete silence in the house, I quietly worked at the bed of a one-year-old daughter, so she sniffles louder than this tablet.

As for heating, then everything is normal here. When viewing Full HD video (specifically looking for), the temperature of the outer case was a maximum of 40 degrees, with the outside temperature in the room a little more than 20 degrees. The propeller quietly rustled. Apparently, if you turn off the propeller (there is such a silent mode), then it will certainly heat up, but why such experiments?

Add. buns

Keyboard and Dock station. There is nothing to write at all, except for enthusiastic screams. From the only drawback - few USB connectors. Already in dock the station could be thrust at least 3.

The keyboard is very good, requires enabled Bluetooth. Previously, for me, the standard was Makovsky keyboards. This one is no worse. It is a pleasure to use it. However, to save battery power, the keyboard turns off if you don’t touch it for a few minutes. To resume work with it, you need to press a button. She thinks for a few seconds (2-3 seconds), blinks the LEDs and works again.

Overall impression

I'll be brief.
"Wow effect" for everyone. For myself, for others ... for everyone! This is the first truly full-fledged tablet with acceptable features on a full-fledged OSes. Of course, Win 7 is not the best operating system from the point of view of installation on the tablet due to the clumsiness of the interface, but all this is minor compared to the pleasure of working!
The only recommendation. If you are going to buy this tablet, then carefully read my introduction. Think about why you buy it, because its scope of application is rather narrow. But, if all your requirements really fit into the characteristics and capabilities of this machine - you will be satisfied. Otherwise, do not get upset yourself and upset others.

Shl - I will open the SIM slot slot tomorrow.
If you forgot to tell something - write, be sure to answer.

Cool, thank you very much for the cool review. I have long wanted to read a review just a man. Today I transferred the money to the card, tomorrow I plan to buy.

Only have to give up their native Claudia, buy a regular usb for 500 rubles. But for the doc-station you have to pay $ 100 (3000 rubles). Damn expensive, but not where to go.

Still thinking about the 3g modem. Of course, I would not like to separately insert a 3g modem, it is so inconvenient, ugly and not switchable. But the campaign does not go anywhere, most likely have to.

strix_bak,
Windows performance index did? If yes, provide the data.
Another request, look in the device manager, in the system devices, how many fans do you have.
You haven’t updated the BIOS yet, I suppose you should have another 04FW, which artificially limited the processor’s capabilities.
I attach the link, read it myselfhttp://www.jessebandersen.com/2011/12/sams...ing-23-ghz.html
This man made a lot of explanatory notes about our tablet.
Of course, from browsers I use Chromium, and the Chrome touch extension first tried it, but it is buggy on some sites, but sharing it with
extension "SmoothScroll 1.0.6" gave a much better effect. By the way, "SmoothScroll 1.0.6" also works fine on the touch screen, but sometimes it still paints the text.

performance index 4.5 is limited by performance for windows aero
CPU figure 4.9 (seems a little low to me)
top down
processor 4.9; RAM 5.9; Aero 4.5 graphics; game graphics 5.4; screw 7.9

BIOS already updated. on the same day as you recalled)
