FAQ on flashing

Attention!
Before flashing, you need to remove the SIM card and SD / MMC

Recommendations ...
It is not recommended to back up the system, and then restore it on a new firmware! Since the system files can be significantly different in the firmware (read the OS) and restoring the backup of the old system will negatively affect the stability of the newly installed system. To transfer PIM data, use Outlook or special programs (PIM Backup , Tabbackup), rearrange the software from scratch.

MaUpgradeUt (NoID)- patched flasher from HTC Magician, which can be used to flash HTC Universal with any firmware (for HTC Universal).
Attached fileMaUpgradeUt.zip(106.99 KB)

RUU_Tools- HTC Universal flasher with Russian manual (translation striimii).
This flasher will work only if the firmware ID matches the communicator ID. For example, the Qtek 9000 Communicator is flashed with QTEK ID or the T-Mobile MDA Pro Communicator is flashed with TMOB ID. In a word, for native firmware. But no patcher firmware patches are required.
Attached fileRUU_Tools.zip(403.63 KB)

Universal_RUU_Tools- patched version of the native flash driver. It will sew firmware with any ID on any model of HTC Universal. A more sophisticated version of MaUpgrade, since the interface for HTC Universal.

Firmware under Vista

1.First, connect your device when it is in bootloader mode.
2.Next, open the Windows Mobile Device Center and in the connection settings, remove the checkbox from "Allow USB connections" (or something like that)
3.Next, go to the Control Panel - Administration - Services and start the following: windows mobile device connectivity and windows mobile device 2003 connectivity
4.Next, in the device manager (right-click on Computer in Start, properties), we update the device driver by downloading it from the links below - wceusbsh.inf
How it's done
In the Device Manager, we click PKM on your device ->select Update drivers ->Run a search for drivers on this computer ->Select the driver from the already installed ->Install from disk ->Choose our driver

5.We kill the wmdc.exe process in the Task Manager
6.Everything, now the rest is done as always :)

In the case of 64-bit Vista, the driver is not signed, so you will have to disable the verification of digital signatures of drivers. This is done like this:
Disable driver digital signature verification
Go to Start, go to Run and type:
Bcdedit.exe / set nointegritychecks ON
and press ENTER, then restart the computer

If the Run item is missing, then right-click on the taskbar ->Properties ->Start Menu Tab ->Configure ->put a check in front of the command "Run" ->OK ->OK

Download driver:
-for 64-bit system (mamaich):
Attached fileimg_70313_ruu_x86.zip(59.43 KB)

-for a 32-bit system (Alex [DFR]):
Attached fileimg_70314_ruu_x64.zip(65.26 KB)

Attention! If you have a 64-bit OS, then when loading it, press F8 and disable the verification of digital signatures of drivers! all further operations only in this mode!

1. Disable the USB connection in the connection settings in the “Sync Center” (Windows Mobile Device Center).

2. Enter the animal into the bootloader state.

3. Connect it via USB to PC. Stop the automatic update drivers. Instead, download special drivers: (post above)

4. Unpack, install the driver in the device manager.

5. Clean with mtty. Easy sew animal. Everything is as usual.

Which firmware is better?

If you hold conservative views, it is better to flash the official (stable) firmware for your device model. If you are not afraid of the unofficial firmware, but you want a novelty, then choose one of the latest AKU3 or WM6 firmware.
More information about the firmware is written here -HTC Universal firmware review

How to flash? (Taken onparabox.ru)

What is needed to update the firmware?
In addition to the communicator itself, you also need a regular desktop computer or laptop and the new firmware file itself.

The firmware file usually looks like this:
UNI_QTEK_13077_176_10900_WWE_Ship.exe

How to understand all these numbers?

Unimeans Universal
QTEKfirmware manufacturer
13077direct ROM version (1.30.77)
176ExtROM version (1.30.176)
10900Radio firmware version (1.09.00)
WWEWorld Wide English (English language firmware)
Ship(Shipped) means that this firmware is installed on devices supplied for sale from the manufacturer

Now go directly to the update procedure. As mentioned above, you need to do BACKUP, and also to disconnect possible loads on the PC / laptop, in the form of suddenly launching antivirus or other applications. It is better to flash on a laptop or with a UPS, since the procedure takes up to 30 minutes, and a power surge or switch-off can “kill” the communicator.

And also take into account that you can ONLY be able to flash directly with the communicator-computer.Through USB-hub it is IMPOSSIBLE to flash!

In ideal conditions, it is enough just to connect the communicator to a computer, run the firmware file, click Next several times. But often this does not happen and pops upERROR 120: COUNTRY ID ERROR.

  1. Connect your device to your computer and wait for synchronization in ActiveSync to work.
  2. Run the flash driver (the file we parsed from above or its variant).
  3. If happiness happened - he did not give out Country ID Error and started flashing, it means that you are lucky and you can go to step 11. Otherwise, DO NOT close this window.
  4. Go to C: \ Documents & Settings \<your username>\ Local Settings \ Temp \
  5. Find a folder there, the contents of which looks like this:
      EnterBL.exe
      GetDeviceData.exe
      ms_.nbf
      nk.nbf
      radio_.nbf
      readme.doc
      ROMUpgradeUt.exe
      RUU.conf
      RUU.dll
      Ui.dll

  6. Copy all this content, for example, in C: \ UNI \
  7. Put there the previously downloaded MaUpgradeUt.exe
  8. Now you can close the window with the flasher.
  9. From the C: \ UNI \ folder, launch MaUpgradeUt.exe (do not be alarmed that another communicator is displayed there).
  10. Next, click Next, before starting the update procedure.
  11. DO NOT INTERRUPT THE FIRMWARE PROCEDURE, DO NOT REMOVE USB-CORD, DO NOT WORK ON YOUR COMPUTER AT THIS TIME!

After testing the three phases of the firmware (radio, extrom, rom), you will be asked to disconnect the communicator from the computer and reboot it (ColdBoot). This is done by simultaneously pressing two large drawbacks in the top row of the keyboard and the RESET button on the side of the communicator.
How to make a hard cut
Hold them pressed together until the screen turns white with the inscription:

Press 0 to restore factory default
Press X to exit

Press zero and wait for the updated system to load.

Mistress note:If it so happened that after the ColdBoot screen of the communicator is dark and it shows the inscriptions Serial (or USB) and v1.00, do not panic. It means thatthe device did not exit Boot Loader mode.

That's all. If you have experience and desire, you can replace the ms_.nbf, nk.nbf and radio_.nbf files with others, thereby forming the firmware you need.

What is the difference between G3 and G4 on Universal?

The difference between G3 and G4 in the gland. In G4 there is a new DOC (Disk-on-chip), the one that stands in G3 is slow and sometimes dies when flashing (the cloud). Understanding which G3 device and which G4 is easy: G3 - Bootloader 1.xx, G4 - Bootloader 2.xx

Does the flasher get the error "Error 120: Country ID Error"?

Take advantage offixed by firmware, either before starting the firmware "enter" the device into bootloader mode, or through the utility HTC64 Extended ROM, change the firmware ID to the one corresponding to your model of communicator.

Why is it necessary (at least occasionally) to update the firmware?

Firstly, it is the acceleration of the system, secondly, it is getting rid of the bugs (errors) found in previous versions, and thirdly, it is always nice to have fresh and new things.

The firmware upgrade procedure is actually very simple. But first, MUST BACKUP all important data (mail, contacts, calendar, tasks, settings), since a hard reset is performed after the update. It is also recommended, at the time of the firmware, to remove the SIM-card and SD-memory.

Attention!

Sewed on ***** now I catch glitches (problems with Wi-Fi / Bt / Radio ...). What to do?

  • We clean through mtty
  • We are flashing the official WM5 firmware (problems with the radio, which means the radio too).
  • We check that everything works.
  • Change to any other firmware.

K
While added as it is ...

Georgy Date • 11.10.2008, 14:22
Here I wrote a manual on firmware for mtty for dummies, such as me. Half the night was tormented, and wrote what he was doing for himself for the future, and then he decided to lay out for you too, it might be useful.
Mtty firmware manual
Attached fileMtty.rar(14.54 KB)

1. download the firmware, unzip it, we need only a file of the form XXX.nbf, about 63 mb in size (where XXX is the name of the firmware)
2. Download this version of mtty, it is recommended to sew it.
3. Download the HTC64 extended rom tool to create a firmware image that mtty understands
Attached fileHTC64_Extended_ROM_Tool.rar(36.74 KB)

4. launch the HTC64 extended rom tool, first put the XXX.nbf firmware in the folder with it, click Decoded, select our file, click next, do not change anything in the settings. At the end, close the program, and we have in the same folder two more files nk.fat and nk.prj. We need nk.fat It can have a size of 63 mb (without splash screen) and 63.5 mb (with splash screen). The size must be exact (66 060 288 or 66 674 688)!
5. Rename nk.fat to flash.dio and put this file in the folder with mtty.
6. Disable activesync, to do this, go to file>Connection setting remove checkboxes with Allow usb connections and allow connections to end on the following or terminate the process wcescomm.exe
7. We take out the sim card and flash card (optional, but desirable)
8. We switch the animal to the boot mode, for this we hold the button with the light bulb on the end, the power button, and press the reset button with the stylus. Serial will appear on the screen, and when we insert the cable, USB will appear, the backlight will be turned off.
9. Run mtty, select in port \\. \\ WCEXXXX no more touch settings
10. Click OK. A white window appears. There we write (we do not copy, but we write from the keyboard):
task 32
We are waiting for a few seconds, it will appear:
Level = 0
If Level = FF appears, then your device is unbroken. How to unlock is described below
Next, write (after USB>):
lnb flash.dio
Click OK in the message if it appears.
The firmware has not started to touch anything.
The device was sewn, we write:
Task 28 (or task 28 55aa to remove the splash screen, to put it simply pictures at boot)
We make a hard reset
The device is loaded and we are happy with the new firmware.

Unlock device:
1. Turn on activesync, to do this, go to file>Connection setting, tick Allow usb connections and allow connections to go on the following or, if you have completed the wcescomm.exe process, just run activesync again
2. Download Sim unlock, unpack
Attached fileSim_unlock.rar(6.58 MB)

3. Switch the animal to the boot mode, for this we hold the button with the light bulb on the end, the power button, and press the reset button with the stylus. Serial appears on the screen, and when we insert the cable, USB will appear, the backlight will be turned off.
4. Launch MaUpgradeUt_noID (this is the firmware of the radio to unlock the device), click all the time further, wait when asked to wait in red font, the device will start to be flashed (if not flashed, write an error on the forum, they will help you) after the firmware (the monitor will say Congratulations), we hold down the two buttons - and poke the reset, a white screen will appear, now we press 0, the device is loaded in the normal mode, only the radio shows as 0.00.0.
5. Copy the UNI_unlock_v1 file via Activesync to any location; you can also simply upload this file to the USB flash drive if you have problems connecting through activsync.
6. Run this file on the device itself. Click OK, wait 30 seconds, click OK again and reboot the device.
7. Now we need to return the radio again, for this we download radio.nbf (this is radio version 1.15, it is considered the most stable),
Attached fileradio_1.15.rar(6.35 MB)
copy it to the Sim unlock folder, replace the old one, and again execute point 4
8. go to step 6 mtty firmware.

Notes:
1. Stitching at your own peril and risk, but for the first time it is always scary. In principle, unsuccessful flashing rarely happens, and even less often when the device can die completely. If you follow all the recommendations, do not flash questionable firmware, provide uninterrupted power, then there is practically no chance to screw up the device.
2. The device must be fully charged. When the firmware is not recharged. If the battery sits down and the firmware is not recorded, it will be very difficult to restore the device, this also applies if you turn off the light and the computer turns off.
3. To make sure that the firmware is fully recorded and there are no “tails” left, it is better to flash one and the same several times, I first flashed the firmware and the radio using the standard MAupgradeIT utility, the third time I flashed the firmware through the third one using mtty. it is very hard to flash.
4. Frequent flashing is said to be harmful, so do not abuse it.

"Accelerated" firmware or firmware custom .nbf files.(Not yet in the rubricator)

1. Connect your device to your computer and wait until synchronization in ActiveSync is completed.
1.1 You can insteaddrive the animal into the bootloaderand connecting the animal to make sure that "found a new device."
It will be easier to clean (point 5).
2. Copy the firmware files to a separate folder. ->Universal_RUU_Tools
4. Copy the .nbf file to the folder of the flash driver.
5. It is advisable to clean the device with mtty - before firmware>here
6. Start the flash driver and follow the directions.
7. DO NOT INTERRUPT THE FIRMWARE PROCEDURE, DO NOT REMOVE USB-CORD, DO NOT WORK ON YOUR COMPUTER AT THIS TIME!
