1. How to perform a hard reset and clean reset

What is a clean reset?

Danmer Date • 06/19/07 15:36:44
Clean Reset is formatting the internal memory, and returning to the factory settings. It brings the device to the state of the newly purchased one (formatting for zero + returning all factory settings - the WM is clean, the language module is not saved).
Infa on memory cards does not disappear anywhere .

Difference of Hard Reset from Clean Reset on HP iPAQ hx2xxx {b}:

On WM5 / 6, Hard Reset (Hard Reset) no longer destroys user data, but only resets some system settings, time, and drivers. It is done almost as in 2003 - Calendar + Itask + cuts, until it clicks, then cuts again.
Clean-reset also fully loads the ROM and destroys all data and settings. Those. returns the device to factory settings.
Taken from a message from Dimmel

1.1 How to perform a hard reset:

Perform a full reset only if you want to remove all installed programs, settings, and data from main memory (applicable to wm2003).
A warning: With a full reset, all user data and programs stored in the main memory will be deleted. Data stored in the iPAQ File Store folder is not deleted (applicable to wm2003).

To perform a full reset:
  1. Press and hold buttons[Calendar (Calendar)] and [iTask] .
  2. Without releasing these buttons, tap with the stylus.Reset on the bottom of your HP iPAQ and hold all three buttons down for two seconds.

    Attached Image

  3. When your HP iPAQ screen goes blank, release the buttons.[Calendar (Calendar)] and [iTask] then remove the stylus from the button Reset .

Note: While holding the buttons [Calendar (Calendar)] , [iTask] and Reset , longer than two seconds, the battery turns off. To restart your HP iPAQ, plug in the power supply or press the button Reset again.

After a full reset, it may be necessary to reinstall the programs installed in the iPAQ File Store folder to restore their functionality.
  4. The device will reboot and turn on.

1.2. How to performfull system reset(Clean Reset):

Clean reset on wm2003 performed exactly the same as Hard reset (see above).
  1. Press and hold (SIMULTANEOUSLY a) down button [Calendar (Calendar)] + [iTask (iTask)] and execute (click) [Reset] .
  2. You must hold the combination until the screen goes out completely, but not less than 5 seconds.
  3. Releasing the buttons on the front panel, once again briefly press "Reset".

    Attached Image

Clean Reset on wm5 and wm6
  1. Press and hold (SIMULTANEOUSLY ) in the depressed state of the [Calendar (Calendar)] + [Message (Messaging)] + [Power On] button, and execute [Reset].
  2. Hold this combination for a few seconds.

2. How to perform a soft reset (Soft Reset):

When restarting, all running programs stop. At the same time, neither the program nor the saved data is deleted. Before rebooting, be sure to save unsaved data from all open programs.

You may need to reboot the device in the following cases:
  • You need to stop all running applications;
  • Need to install a new application;
  • HP iPAQ stopped responding to clicks and button presses.

To reboot:
  1. Find the recessed Reset (Reset or Reset) button on the bottom of your HP iPAQ.
  2. Gently press it with the stylus.
Your HP iPAQ reboots and the Today screen appears.

3. Pre-BL (Pre-Bootloader) and E-Boot flashing modes:

3.1. How to enter Pre-BL (Pre-Bootloader) mode:
  • Press and hold (SIMULTANEOUSLY ) press the [Contacts (Contacts)] + [iTask (iTask)] button and execute (press) [Reset].
If you are an owner of hx2 * 90b devices, thenScreenwill become white, in another case you will see the inscriptionPre BL .

    Attached Image

    Attached Image

3.2. E-Boot mode:
  • E-Boot - the mode of the PDA, which loads the secure software loader from XP. Unlike PRE-BL, in this mode, every 1024 bytes a digital signature is checked for damage to the firmware dump file, as well as subsequent formatting of the memory, which theoretically should eliminate problems.
Taken from a message from YuRRiX

  • In other words, as I understood it, in the modeE-boot The PDA switches when flashing the original files from HP.com (a kind of protection for licensing, something like HardSPL on HTC). And for installationnot officialfirmware, just used mode Pre-BL .

Through E-Boot, only OFFICIAL firmware is sewn, with OFFICIAL flashers.

ATTENTION!!! For owners hx2490Cand hx2790C!!!
Firmware for your devices to takeHERE!!!
The following methods of flashing are incompatible with your PDA models !!!
(white screen after firmware)

All threads for flashingHP iPAQ hx2xxx :

hx2 *** WM6 RUS, Russian VM6 firmware for our little animals | AKU 3.5 for hx2000 (wm5)
HP iPAQ hx2 *** - Firmware., Only for WM5.0 !!! | HP iPAQ hx 2 *** series - WM6, only WM6.0
HP iPAQ hx2490 - Flashing. RUS RUS to ENG | HP iPAQ hx2 *** - Homemade firmware, Is it possible?
Hp Ipaq 2xxx WM 6.5

Remember! With any flashing, all your programs are removed and only those included in the firmware build are installed, i.e. After flashing, all your favorite programs must be reinstalled.

Attention! A full backup copy (backup) of the old system cannot be restored on a new firmware !!!

Before flashing:
  • Charge the battery to at least 60%.
  • Make a backup of all important data (contacts, mail, messages, meetings, notes, other documents) to return them in a new firmware, for this you can use third-party utilities, for example,SPB Backup, Sprite backup, PIM Backup.
  • Disable screensaver on PC if firmware is made from BB.
  • Check if the battery compartment is closed. With the cover removed, the PDA will not boot.
  • Remove the SD card (some do not sew when the SD card is inserted)

Flashing from wm2003 to wm5:
Preparing to installnot officialwm5, wm6.1 or wm6.5.

Note: before installationnot officialwm5, wm6.1 or wm6.5 need to run EVERYTHING The following steps for flashing.

For owners of HP iPAQ hx2 * 90b:
  • If you are the owner of hx2 * 90b, then the screen at the entrance to the modePRE-BL (Pre-Bootloader) will become white and will remain so throughout the flashing process. It does not affect the flashing itself! So continue to reflash the PDA blindly.
  • If the BB sees the device, all the firewood is standing, the device is present in the list of equipment, and as soon as the flashing starts, errors are made - flashsp29795.exe (wm2003) and further on, we look at the diagram below.

Hx24xx {b} & hx21xx {b} flashing scheme :
wm2003 ->1.00.00.L->1.00.00.H->1.02.00.H->anyno official firmware (wm5, wm6.1, wm6.5)
Hx27xx flashing scheme {b} :
wm2003 ->1.00.00.L->1.02.00.H->anyno official firmware (wm5, wm6.1, wm6.5)

Step 1: Preparing the BB for flashing
  • If you have Windows XP, install Active Sync 4.5 when it is missing.
  • If you have Windows Vista or Windows 7 [x86] - you will need to install the driverUSB_driver_Spiaatie_Vista_W7
  • If you have Windows 7 [x64] -installing drivers from Spiaatie
Note: flashing on Windows 7 [x86] and [x64] with drivers from Microsoft -> " HP USB Sync "NOT POSSIBLE !!! A prerequisite for flashing is to install drivers from Spiaatie !!!

Step 2: Preparing the PDA for flashing
  • ExecuteClean reset .
  • Enter modePRE-BL (Pre-Bootloader) .
Note:If you are the owner of the hx2 * 90b device, the screen will turn white (continue the process of flashing), otherwise you will see the inscription Pre BL.
  • Connect the device to the cable or cradle.
  • Press the button[The calendar] .
Note1:PDA is determined by the computer only after pressing the button[The calendar] i.e. after clicking the [Calendar] button, drivers are installed and the device is initialized in the system.
Note2:On the hx2 * 90b device, nothing will change (shake blind, nothing terrible), for the rest, the inscription on the bottom left will change fromUSB ConnectedonUSB.
Check whether you did everything correctly, you can:
Windows XP ->opening the Device Manager and making sure that the device is present [Windows CE Device ->HP USB Sync].

Step 3: flashing devices from wm2003 to wm5
If you have installed in the PDAwm2003You need to install firmware 1.00.00.L.
  • To do this, unpack the archive "1_hx2xxx_1.00.00.L_en.wm5.rar". For example in the folder"c: \ 1_hx2xxx 1.00.00.L_en.wm5".
  • Run the program from this folder for the firmware "hpRUU.exe".
  • Wait for the window with the [Upgrade] button and click on it (the [Upgrade] button).
  • Wait until the firmware upgrade process is complete.
  • ExecuteClean reset.
    Note : file " 1_hx2xxx_1.00.00.L_en.wm5.rar "suitable for flashing only hx24xx {b} & hx21xx {b} .
For flashinghx27xx {b} in step 3 use the file " Update.nbf "from the archive" 1_hx27xx_1.00.00.L_en.wm5.rar "(copy the Update.nbf file from the archive to the folder" c: \ 1_hx2xxx 1.00.00.L_en.wm5 ") or use the flashing file WWE-hx2700_WM5_Upgrade.exe .

Step 4: update wm5 firmware
Install ROM version 1.00.00.H.
  • Executestep 2 ->Preparing a PDA for a flashing !!!.
  • Unpack the archive "2_hx2xxx_1.00.00.H_en.wm5.rar". For example in the folder"c: \ 2_hx2xxx_1.00.00.H_en.wm5".
  • Go to the folder "c: \ 1_hx2xxx_1.00.00.L_en.wm5"and run the program from this folder for the firmware"hpRUU.exe". BUT !!!don't press button [Upgrade].
  • Copy file "Update.nbf"from folder"c: \ 2_hx2xxx_1.00.00.H_en.wm5"to folder"c: \ 1_hx2xxx_1.00.00.L_en.wm5"
  • To upgrade the firmware, click the [Upgrade] button.
  • Wait until the firmware upgrade process is complete.
  • ExecuteClean reset.
Note if you have hx27xx then you can skip this step and go to step5.

Step 5: update wm5 firmware
Install ROM version 1.02.00.H.
  • Executestep 2 ->Preparing a PDA for a flashing !!!.
  • Unpack the archive "3_hx2xxx_1.02.00.H_en.wm5.rar". For example in the folder"c: \ 3_hx2xxx_1.02.00.H_en.wm5".
  • Go to the folder "c: \ 1_hx2xxx_1.00.00.L_en.wm5"and run the program from this folder for the firmware"hpRUU.exe". BUT !!!don't press button [Upgrade].
  • Copy file "Update.nbf"from folder"c: \ 3_hx2xxx_1.02.00.H_en.wm5"to folder"c: \ 1_hx2xxx_1.00.00.L_en.wm5"
  • To upgrade the firmware, click the [Upgrade] button.
  • Wait until the firmware upgrade process is complete.
  • ExecuteClean reset.

Your iPAQ hx2xxx {b} is now ready forupgrade to non-official wm5, wm6.1 or wm6.5 firmware

Tips for getting around problems during a flashing:
Number of times:
Unforgettable to do a full system reset [calendar] + [message] + [power on / power] + [reset]. After flashing through pre bl. memory remains “garbage” from the previous system, which can cause various errors, including the inability to load the PDA.
And further. In order to avoid accidents. The firmware that you downloaded is most likely in the archive. ITS NEED TO UNPACK !!!!
Type messagesDigital Sign Mismatchthey say that you did something wrong. Most likely you are trying to flash a PDA in the E-Boot mode. This mode checks the digital signature in the firmware, and since it does not exist, it blocks the firmware.
If you see a messageincorrect device SKU, then you are trying to flash the PDA firmware with the wrong titlenbfMost likely, you need to take the loader not from the SP3300, but from WWE-hx2000L_WM5_Upgrade and do the replacement of the nbf file.
If you swear at the language, then try the files from the following archive:hpRUU.rar.
Tips from YuRRiX

Number two:
Question:The problem with the firmware: when the PDA is connected in pre-bl mode, the HPRUU gives an ACTIVESYNC communication error with the device, although there is an HP USB SYNC in the list of connected equipment. For the sake of interest I tried from e-boot - the same. Errors do not occur only if the device is normally loaded, connected and synchronized with ACTIVESYNC, but after checking the language and the start of the firmware, the device itself goes into e-boot and issues DIGITAL SIGN MISMATCH.
Tell me, please, what am I doing wrong, why does the flash driver not see the PDA in the pre-bl and what needs to be done to see it?
HELP !!!
Answer:I had such a problem, I decided to Clean Reset before flashing.
Advice from Erlond

Number three:
Question:The problem with the firmware: when the PDA is connected in pre-bl mode, the HPRUU gives an ACTIVESYNC communication error with the device, although there is an HP USB SYNC in the list of connected equipment.
Answer:I reflashed HP hx2490b from WM5 to WM6.1. There was the same problem. Clean reset did not help. I was able to establish contact with the PC and install the update only after uninstalling: My Computer-Properties-Hardware-Device Manager-Universal Serial Bus Controllers-USB — all drivers, then upgraded the hardware, and then again inserted the PDA into the Cradle. It was re-discovered and the installation started normally.
Advice from kirumail

I did not add anything extra. Standard firmware, just deleted "Phone manager" and "HP Protect tool". The size of the pool is 8 MB.
The firmware is built on the basis of SP33003, so that users of hx2000b can also install.

Huge Thanks for the help and utilities:mamaich, bepe. Also Gratefulmuntaught the basics.

In order to flash, we transfer the PDA to Pre-BL mode (2 + 4 + resets), insert it into the cradle, flash it, make a hard-rest and enjoy.

Due to the fact that HP is unlikely to lay out on its FTP the Russian version of the firmware for the НХ2000B (and when they take money for it), it collected the Russian firmware from the dump with the Grab It (http://www.hjgode.de/dev/grabit/).Dump did from his device 2790b (version 1.01.01.N) and from the device 2490b (version 1.01.01.N - sent by a friend).
I compared both dumps - the difference turned out to be in 6 groups of several bytes, where the device is registered, and so very similar to the nba file, for example English!
He compared the localization files of other languages, for which there is firmware (English, German, Italian, French, etc.), differences in the same places as in the file obtained by the dump.
I slightly corrected the received nba file, converted it with the nbf Russian firmware header and got the firmware.

THIS IS FIRMWARE FOR HX2000B DEVICES. I DIDN'T FIRMWARE MY APPARATUS WITH THIS FIRMWARE - IT HAS NOT TESTED ANYONE. THAT WHO WILL SEW IT ONE - DOES IT AT YOUR OWN RISK. (but the theoretical probability of successful device firmware is very high, with successful firmware, it is possible to create firmware version 1.02.01. H - if there are people who dump from their device ...).

Recovery after unsuccessful flashing
(if the PDA is loaded only in Pre-BL mode)

Step 1:
  • Enter modePRE-BL (Pre-Bootloader) .
Note:If you are the owner of the hx2 * 90b device, the screen will turn white (continue the process of flashing), otherwise you will see the inscription Pre BL.
  • Connect the device to the cable or cradle.
  • Press the button[The calendar] .
Note:PDA is determined by the computer only after pressing the button[The calendar] i.e. after clicking the [Calendar] button, drivers are installed and the device is initialized in the system.
Note:On the hx2 * 90b device, nothing will change (shake blind, nothing terrible), for the rest, the inscription on the bottom left will change from USB Connected to USB. Check whether you did everything correctly, you can open the Device Manager and make sure that the device is present [Windows CE Device ->HP USB Sync].

Step 2: flashing the device on wm2003
  • Unpack the archive"sp29795.exe" . For example in the folder "c: \ sp29795" .
  • Run from this folder the firmware program "hpRUU.exe".
  • Wait for the window with the [Upgrade] button and click on it (the [Upgrade] button).
  • ExecuteHard reset (aka Clean Reset for wm2003).

Step 3: update wm2003 version
  • Unpack the archive"sp29856.exe" . For example in the folder "c: \ sp29856" .

Original message text fromale_xb
just in case: I have 2410 and without the "b", but I think the procedure is the same. He did exactly as described in the next branch to restore the "dead" machines. After I poured all the garbage (archive) on the machine, I couldn’t start the EC, but I went into pre-bl mode.
0) Take the most, the old firmware SE2003 1.00.14 Eng (SP2975 - have on the HP website), unpack it (you can just run the exe-Schnick in the big blind, I do so in TotalCommander unpack without starting the exe-Schnick), will catalog .. \ iPAQ \ SP2975 \, which is the actual firmware, exe-Schnick for its filling and necessary for dll - all as well as for any other firmware. In pre-bl start the flasher mode on BB (HPRUU.exe), it is 15 seconds through a PDA and offers to upgrade the firmware of the unknown to him at the SE2003 1.00.14 Eng. Click ok. After 15-20 minutes - you have to type the old but fully operational. Disconnected from the BB, we do hard (aka clean) reset. For information: on the WM2003 for that other combination of "1 + 4, + then reset", hold about 2 seconds (it will be a faint hissing sound, even more click), then release the first 1 + 4, and the last to release the reset. All this is written in the manual for iPAQ 2xxx series (available on the HP website, but English only).
Then - a long way (this is with me, with other machines, maybe shorter):
1) WM2003SE 10/1/09 Eng (SP29856) - this was my original factory firmware. Everything is sewn without any changes and pre-bl, just running exe-shnik. If desired, in pre-bl, substitution is not required; Hard reset is basically done automatically, but you can duplicate it to be sure again.
2) WM5 1.00 L (WWE-hx2000L_WM5_Upgrade.exe) Eng - a file that is not on the HP website, because This upgrade was offered for money, but even for money it could not be bought there, the link is not working. Easy to find in this forum. This was the only official upgrade to WM5 for iPAQ 2000 series. It is sewn similarly to p.
MANDATORY we do hard (it is clean) reset. The combination is now different - 1 + 3 + power + reset. PS formatting should appear at the bottom of the screen. The organization of work with memory in WM5 / WM6 is completely different compared to WM2003SE and its reformatting is necessary.
3) Starting from this point, everything is sewn only in the pre-bl by the flasher from item 2 with a substitution after the firmware of your PDA * .nbf file is determined by the firmware you need. Do not forget to restore the source file E1_Upgrade_ROM_v1_00_00_L_SIGNED.nbf before launching the flasher, otherwise the flasher will swear at the wrong SKU and / or language and will not let you move on.
So, WM5 1.00 H (SP32408) Eng
4) WM5 1.02 H (SP33003) Eng is similar to p.3
5) Finally, WM6 - which one you want in the same way as paragraph 3.
I put 5.20 H rus. from YuRRiX from the cap of this branch, for which he thanks a lot!
After the two-way combination of upgrades and the recovery procedure for the killed PDA once passed, it is no big deal to sew it. The main thing is to save your valuable data in advance and good luck to all.

Outdated description.

FAQ on installing firmware from hx2 * 90 {b} devices to hx2 * 10/2 * 50 devices {b}
  1. We ship any firmware for devices 2x90 and 2x90b /
  2. Ship Upgrade for 2xxx to WM 5.0.
  3. We start upgrade to WM 5.0.
  4. When the window with a suggestion to flash the device appears, we simply reject the update.
  5. Then we have to run an update for 2x90 machines. In this case, an error window will appear and we exit and the flasher.
  6. Again, repeat the action number 3.
  7. The Upgrade window will appear again with a suggestion to flash the device.
  8. We press upgrade.
  9. And voila, after shamanism, you ask from 2x90. More nimble compared to 1.00.00.L. But there is a minus you have only 11 MB of Roma.

FAQ on installing modified firmware with a modified Pool Size.
  1. We take any firmware from our devices with WM 5.0
  2. We are looking for the hex editor FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF9B4FFFFF64B00000640000002C77C79A00005000 or FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF9B4FFFFF64
  3. Replacing the last four numbers ... 5000 for:
    ... 8000 = 8 MB
    ... C000 = 12 MB
    ... 0001 = 16 MB
  4. We save.
  5. Then we roll back to WM2003SE.
  6. When the Windows 2003 is done, we run the upgrade to WM 5.0.
  7. Then we wait for a window with a suggestion to flash the device to appear. Without pressing anything, we climb into the folder where the firmware is (E1_Upgrade_ROM_v1_00_00_L_SIGNED.nbf) and replace it with the same firmware but with a modified pool.
  8. We are waiting for the device to flash.
  9. After all the manipulations, we get smart, please, without brakes.

After flashing, you will have about 34 ~ 35 MB of RAM on the firmware with a pool of 12 MB.
27 ~ 28 MB of RAM with a pool of 16 MB.
I recommend using a pool of 12 mb in size because IMHO it is the most optimal for a machine.

Attention ! These firmware can be installed ONLY from 2003SE, because if you put it from the top five, a Digital Signature error will occur.

Best wishesFootball .

Manual for editing the firmware hx2000 WM5 from misar .
Note:tested on hx2490 with sp32408, sp33752, sp33003.
  1. Download the program hx2000_tool.exe (I wrote it myself) We launch it.
  2. We carry two buttons - Unpack and Pack. Press the Unpack button and select the .nbf firmware file. We get in the same directory nk.nba.
  3. Next, run the utility from mamaich.
    prepare_imgfs nk.nba
    viewimgfs imgfs_raw_data.bin
Get the dump folder with the firmware files. In it you can see the contents of the firmware.
  4. There are two ways to change the firmware:
    first way:
    addfile [filename]
    delfile [filename]
    Add or delete a file.
    second way:
We change the dump pack under our discretion.
    We collect the firmware team
    buildimgfs
  5. After all changes, save the firmware
    make_imgfs.exe nk.nba
  6. Run the hx2000_tool program. Click the Pack, select the firmware .nbf from which we got nk.nba. We get the modified firmware. If you need to change the size of the Pool, then before pressing the Pack, put a check on the Pool Size and select the size of the Pool.
  7. Fix crc.
To change crc, use the PEID utility. Run PEID, select the firmware * .nbf.
In the lower right corner there is an arrow, click it and select crc32. A small window appears. We enter crc for our firmware (for sp33752 crc E7A8B309) in the column New crc. Put a tick on overwrite mode and click Fix it.
  8. We are stitching the PDA.
For the firmware, we transfer the PDA to the Pre-BL bootloader mode by pressing the 2 + 4 + reset buttons.
    We are stitching.
    You know the rest.

hx2000_tool
PEID

Good luck.

On behalf of the Administration I express my gratitudemisar for this addition to the general FAK

How to connect a PDA with WM6 via Bluetooth to the Internet

There is a known problem. Many happy owners of a PDA with Windows Mobile 6 cannot connect to the Internet through, for example, a mobile phone due to the lack of a modem initialization line item. I spent a long time digging into my PDA and ... a solution was found! :)
  1. Download and install any registry editor, for exampleResco Registry Editor which is part of Resco File Explorer .
  2. Run it and find the pathHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ DRIVERS \ Unimodem \ Init
  3. In this folder, create a value of type "line "(click Menu => New => Stringvalue )
  4. Enter the values (for example, Kyivstar):
Name (or Value name ): 3
String (or Value data ): AT + CGDCONT = 1, "IP", "www.djuice.com.ua" ‹cr› (everything is written without spaces, " ‹Cr› "at the end it depends on the operator and on the model of the specific device - you need to try)
  5. Save the changes.
  6. Reboot the PDA.

Such a solution absolutely solves the connection problem! Good luck to all!

This error means that either you have a different model device, or it is intended for deliveries to those countries for which this firmware is not designed. Simply put does not match the language group.

Is it possible to Russify the finished firmware wm6.5 fromSpiaatie?
  • need to find a kitchen that works with wm6.5.x
  • You need to find the Russian firmware versions of the respective builds:
    - WM6.5 - CE OS 5.2.21903 (Build 21903.5.0.92)
    - WM6.5 - CE OS 5.2.23569 (Build 23569.5.5.0)
    - etc.
  • disassemble these firmware;
  • disassemble the desired firmware fromSpiaatiethe corresponding build
(due to demolition of assemblies up to version 7 inclusive of RGU files, this item is not possible. RGU filesSpiaatiedeleted in general from all assemblies up to version 7 inclusive ...)
  • replace english file versions with russian
  • build firmware again
  • catch bugs, rebuild firmware and so on ...

Conclusion:
  • Disassemble custom versions of firmware up to version 7 fromSpiaatieis impossible. Therefore, if you want your RUSSIAN assemblywm6.5 - You'll have to do the firmware from scratch and independently ! ( thanks for the detailed description NeverGone )
  • BUT! Thanks to the efforts of the members of the forum, Russian cuisine of firmware version 8 fromSpiaatie:
