Rules of the road for cyclists (led traffic)

There is a lot of text under the spoiler! No desire to read everything, lookexcerpts.

General provisions

A bicycle is defined as “a vehicle other than wheelchairs, having two wheels or more and set in motion by the muscular strength of the people on it” (SDA 1.2). A cyclist, according to the Rules, qualifies as a bike driver.

A bicycle is a vehicle, but not a “power-driven vehicle”. Therefore, if “vehicle” is written in traffic regulations, then this also applies to bicycles, and if “motorized vehicle” is written, then this does not apply to bicycles.

If a person does not ride a bicycle, but rolls it, then he is considered a pedestrian, not a cyclist (traffic rules 1.2). At the same time, only one difference between a dismounted cyclist and a pedestrian is stipulated in the Rules: in accordance with clause 4.1. ".

Driving a bicycle while traveling on roads is allowed to persons at least 14 years old (traffic rules 24.1).

Technical requirements

The bicycle must have proper brakes, a steering wheel and a sound signal, be equipped with a front light reflector and a lantern or headlight (for driving at night and in conditions of insufficient visibility) in white, the rear light with a light retro reflector or red light, and on each side of the light reflector orange or red. ("Basic provisions for the approval of vehicles for operation ...", paragraph 6.)

Motion

Bicycles should move along the bicycle lane (SDA 24.3), and in case of its absence - only along the extreme right lane of the carriageway in one row, possibly to the right. Roadside traffic is allowed if it does not interfere with pedestrians (traffic rules 24.2).

The movement of bicycles (as well as any other vehicle) on sidewalks and footpaths is prohibited (traffic rules 9.9), but in practice cyclists on the sidewalk are treated rather condescendingly.

Columns of cyclists when driving on the roadway should be divided into groups of 10 cyclists. To facilitate overtaking, the distance between the groups should be 80-100 m. (PDD 24.2)

Attached Image

Bans

Bicycle drivers are prohibited from:
  • ride without holding the steering wheel with at least one hand (traffic rules 24.3);
  • to transport passengers, except for a child under the age of 7, in an additional seat equipped with reliable steps (traffic regulations 24.3);
  • to transport a load that is more than 0.5 m in length or width beyond the dimensions, or a load that interferes with management (SDA 24.3);
  • move along the road if there is a bike path nearby (traffic rules 24.3);
  • turn left or turn on roads with tram traffic and on roads that have more than one lane to go in a given direction (traffic rules 24.3). Therefore, to make a left turn, you need to: a) drive straight through the intersection, turn around in the right lane of the intersected road, and again after passing the traffic light signal go straight ahead or b) get off the bike and cross the road at a pedestrian crossing;
  • move on highways (traffic rules 16.1);
  • move on the road at night (and / or in conditions of insufficient visibility) without the included white front light ("Basic provisions for the admission of vehicles to use ...", p. 6);
  • towing bicycles, as well as bicycles, except for towing a trailer designed for use with a bicycle (PDD 24.3).

Passage of intersections

At the intersections, the usual rules of priority (traffic rules p. 13, etc.) apply. So, a car moving on a secondary road must give way to a bicycle moving on the main one (traffic rules 13.9, 13.10). At an unregulated intersection of equivalent roads, a trackless vehicle that has no right-hand interference (SDA 13.11) has an advantage, that is, at such an intersection, the car approaching from the left must give way to the cyclist.

But at the unregulated intersection of the bike lane with the road, located outside the intersection, bike drivers must give way to all vehicles moving along this road (traffic rules 14.1).

At adjustable intersections, cyclists must obey the signals of special bicycle traffic lights (traffic rules 6.5), and if they are not available, they must obey the signals of ordinary traffic lights (not pedestrian).

A car turning right must skip a bicyclist driving right along the same road directly (if there is a bicycle lane, according to Section 13.1 of the Traffic Regulations, and if there is no bicycle, according to paragraphs 8.4–8.5 and 8.9 of traffic rules).

When turning, it is also necessary to take into account clause 8.6 of the rules: “The turn must be carried out in such a way that when leaving the intersection of the carriageways, the vehicle is not on the side of oncoming traffic. When turning right, the vehicle should move as close as possible to the right edge of the roadway. ”

Pedestrian crossings

At regulated pedestrian crossings, cyclists must obey the signals of bicycle or general traffic lights, as well as traffic controllers (traffic rules item 6).

At unregulated pedestrian crossings, cyclists, like all other drivers, must give way to pedestrians (traffic rules 14.1). You should also give way to pedestrians going to the tram stopped at the bus stop or from it (from the door) if the tram tracks are on the roadway (traffic rules 14.6)

Cyclists are not allowed to cross the road at a pedestrian crossing, as well as turn around at a crosswalk (traffic rules 8.11); in this case, you need to get off the bike and cross the road like a pedestrian.

At pedestrian crossings and closer than 5 m in front of them, stopping and parking are prohibited (traffic rules 12.4).

Signals given by the cyclist

To indicate the maneuver, the Rules contain the following signs:
  • Rotate or rebuild to the right: an extended right arm, or an extended left arm bent at the elbow.
  • Turn or rebuild to the left: an extended left arm, or an elongated and bent at the elbow right.
  • However, it is not recommended to use alternative methods (where the bent arm is) - drivers may not understand.
  • Stop: raised hand (any).
  • When riding in a group, another sign is used, not intended for motorists, but for cyclists who follow you.
  • Pits on the right: right hand down.
  • Pits on the left: left hand down.
  • Signs are delivered first by the facilitator, members of the group repeat them immediately. You should not wait until you pass or see a hole, you must sign immediately after the next cyclist in front of you. The lead (or single cyclist) must give signs in advance so that the group and motorists have time to react.

Attached Image

The left turn signal is also recommended to apply when bending around a motor vehicle parked at the right edge of the lane.

Road signs related to cyclists

Directly to cyclists are only two road signs:

Attached Image
Sign 4.4 "Bicycle Lane"

Attached Image
Sign 3.9 "Movement on bicycles is prohibited"

prescribing 4.4 "Bicycle Lane". This and only this sign points to the cycle path; the asphalt strip along the road, not marked by this sign, should be considered either a curb, on which cyclists are allowed, or a sidewalk, on which cyclists are prohibited;
prohibiting 3.9 "Movement on bicycles is prohibited."

Responsibility for breaking the rules

However, the bike driver is obliged to comply with other signs relating to vehicles in general. In particular, he should pay attention to the information signs and signs 5.1 “Motorway”, 5.3 “Road for cars” and the prescriptive sign 4.5 “Footpath”, which prohibit the movement of bicycles.

Sign 5.1 "Motorway"

Difficult situations

Attached Image

The most difficult situation for a cyclist is the passage of the place where traffic flows are separated when he needs to be kept straight (Road marking, paragraph 1.16.2), since this situation is not specifically mentioned in the Rules. This is possible, for example, if the entrance to the highway or to the bridge, etc., departs from the main road at an acute angle to the right, according to the Rules, turns out to be in a contradictory position. It is forbidden for him to reorganize into the left lane, but he cannot cross the traffic flow as a pedestrian as it is a pedestrian, since, as a rule, a crosswalk is prohibited in such places (sometimes by a sign). It is absurd and sometimes impossible to drive in the wrong direction and look for a fork returning to the main road. In practice, in such a situation, if the movement is not too intense, the cyclist gives a turn signal to the left and does not reorganize into the right lane, leaving the flow separation to the right. If the movement is intense, then the cyclist dismounts and goes through such a division on foot despite the signs.

For violation of traffic rules by cyclists provides administrative liability.

Bike storage in winter

paladin7 Date • 08/19/2011, 00:58 Such a question: how to store a bike? Leave somewhere for a year. Will stand in a dry ventilated area. Do I need to lower the wheels? What to do with the chain, the carriage and the system? With butter in a fork?

gabby Date • 08/19/2011, 02:09
The main thing - to store in a dry place. It is possible both in heated, and not heated.
It is not necessary to lower the wheels. It is only necessary to lower (not to the rims, of course), in order to relieve tension on the rubber. Similarly, it is worth doing with speed switches (loosen the spring). And in general, whenever possible, loosen all cables.
P. S. Nothing to twist the nuts, just loosen everything. Otherwise, in the spring you have to re-configure everything.
For the most part (perhaps there are exceptions, so do not forget to read the manual to the plug) oil forks do not suffer from temperature changes, or from long downtime. Since modern oils do not give precipitation.
With the other forks also no problems during winter storage.

P. S. Year for idle bike with proper storage is not a term.

Studded and not studded tires?

To begin with, why spike in the winter?
It allows you to confidently keep the wheel on the ice and rammed snow. When even the very "evil" tires just slip. This is due to the fact that with pressure and, especially, braking, a water film is formed under the wheel and the wheel aquaplanes, that is, it simply slides without touching the surface on the water film. Hence, the stopping distance is much longer, skidding, stability, etc., etc.
To avoid this, studded and, moreover, not studded tires are equipped with small slots (lamellae), they collect and divert water from the place of contact. The cycle cutter, alas, does not have it.

Who really needs spike?
Those who ride in the winter on the roads and crowded places (in general, there is more often almost ice under their feet). The rest of it, too, does not hurt, but not so mandatory.
For coils in winter parks, you can do with the usual "evil" non-studded tires.

Why put two studded tires, because the drive wheel is only rear?
The most effective brakes are front brakes. Since, according to the laws of physics, the whole mass shifts forward during braking, that is, to the front wheel. The rear wheel during heavy braking can generally lift off the ground.
And if in the summer when braking, their front brake performance was not so noticeable, in winter it is simply obvious.

Also on the ice without the front studded rubber, you can simply not enter the turn. The wheel will simply slide in the same direction in which the bike rode before.

P. S. Learn to brake with both brakes, and especially with the front brakes in summer.

What threatens the use of V-Brake brakes in the winter.

If you do not have disc brakes, but rim brakes (V-Brake), then you are at great risk for spring, or even get a completely worn rim before.
The fact is that salt gets on the rim, it eats a thin film of aluminum oxide Al2O3, and sand, falling between the rim and brake pads, which are often sprinkled with good almost everywhere, works like a chic abrasive (sandpaper).
I did not believe it myself, until I saw a rim with holes in my acquaintance.

Ashanbike
(ashanobayk, laznabayk, govnobayk, lohobayk, chermet, drochekop, gastarbike, dvuhpruzhin, etc., Busurmansk. BSO)

Ashanbayk - a general class of bikes, characterized by extremely low quality, but with a pontovy appearance.
The main producing country is China.
Cost - from 2 thousand rubles in the hypermarket.
Outwardly, it looks like a bicycle, but in reality it is only its partially acting layout.
Such bicycles are not recommended for use as intended. like a mountain bike so how to ride itvery dangerous.
They are suitable only for easy walks around the city.

The pressure in the wheels.

The pressure in the wheel usually varies from 3 to 6 atmospheres and depends on the tire and the camera.
What pressure you need is written either on the tire itself or in the instructions attached to it.

In any case, the pressure can be varied, the main thing is not to pump.
- High pressure makes it easier for you to pick up speed and easier to pedal. But passability in mud and sand is not very.
- Low will give a large cross on the sand of dirt, softness on small bumps. But the risk of punctures, deformation of the rim on the bumps and pits increases.

There are cases when a manometer has one unit of measurement, and others are written on the wheel / passport. Need a conversion table of pressure units.

Conversion table of pressure units. thankComradegrawer

DIY - studded bicycle tires.

Words from the cartoon "Prostokvashino" I want to start my photo report on the production of winter shoes for a bicycle.

Bicycle tires studded, industrial production, of course great. BUT there are a few but.
NO # 1 - non-democratic prices
BUT # 2 - extremely low variety (figure, size, number of spikes)
NO number 3 - loss of thorns in the urban mode
NO # 4 - relevance in Moscow - 2 .... 7 times during the winter

So, let's begin.

Materials:
- Actually - tires
- Old camera - 1 pc per tire (preferably thick-walled)
- Thorns - self-tapping screws for automobile wing flaps 4,2 x 14
- Clay 88

From the tools:
- Shilo
- Philips screwdriver 2
- Gloves desirable

Attached Image

To begin with, we mark the tire with an awl for screws - it’s better if you do it all at once for the entire tire, there will be less scratches
from previously screwed spikes.
Attached Image

View inside the tire after marking:
Attached Image

One more:
Attached Image

Outside view:
Attached Image

It can be screwed in without marking with an awl, but it is harder to get into the middle of the grouser, harder to screw in (when using
screwdriver - not relevant)
Then - a screwdriver on a screwdriver - on a new screwdriver, the screw perfectly adheres - if it does not hold well - lubricate with glue.
I have only one out of 200 pieces - only one drowned in glue
Attached Image

Dipping into the glue:
Attached Image

And screwed into the channel left by the awl:
Attached Image

We try to go along the canal, we reach the stop, we turn by 150… .180 degrees - we create prestress
in rubber - I do not recommend turning over to a larger angle - rubber begins to be “cut”.
Attached Image

Outside view:
Attached Image

So, screws are screwed:
Attached Image

Spread glue inside the tire:
Attached Image

Attached Image

and while the glue "rises" we take the camera:
Attached Image

Cut off the valve and dissolve it on the inside:
Attached Image

Next, paste this camera inside the tire - it is we insert - see the recommendations on the bank for use
glue - glue is the best. Very good results shows the glue "Sprut" - also waterproof for shoes.
Attached Image

After drying - we shoe, we drive, we swing tires to the maximum, it is desirable to let them stand at least overnight, preferably a couple of days.
Well, then - we reduce the pressure in the tires to comfort (under my weight 74 kg before 2.0, back 3.4), and FORWARD !!!
View of the line of thorns on the ice when turning (speed 7 km / h)
Attached Image

Braking from a speed of 10 km / h
Before:
Attached Image

Backside
Attached Image

In general, all the technology! Enjoy!
BUT!!!!! I almost forgot!!!! Observing traffic rules - do not forget to hang the sign "W" !!!! : D
Attached Image

P.S. A little about the process itself:
- You can use the awl only with a round sting.
- Electric screwdriver or screwdriver can be used, but reasonable.
- Do not rush to checkout.
- Tire pressure to keep recommended.

The spikes in these tires in straight motion should not work, only a slight touch to the surface is allowed. In case of strong ice, movement on frozen reservoirs, reduce the pressure in the tires so that the studs contact the rolling surface.

Good luck everyone!

Fucked up
