What is Mac OS X?

Mac OS X is an operating system created by Apple for Mac computers (the first version was introduced in 2001), replacing the outdated Mac OS 9 at that time.
This is a POSIX-compatible system, that is, all Unix operations can be performed in it. Built on the basis of the XNU-core with the Aqua GUI.
Starting with version 10.8 is called OS X.
Versions 10.0 - 10.3 have support for computers based on the IBM PowerPC architecture.
Version 10.4 - 10.5 has support for both Intel and PPC.
Version 10.6 and above - Intel only
Version 10.8 and higher is installed only on systems with 64-bit efi.
Starting from version 10.7, the integration of the system with iOS mobile OS has begun.
In version 10.8, many new software applications for standard iOS applications have been added.
Version 10.10 has a new flat interface in the style of iOS 7.
Typically, Mac users have these advantages over Windows:
  • More understandable and intuitive interface.
  • A large number of embedded applications.
  • High degree of integration with mobile devices.
  • High level of protection and the actual absence of viruses.
  • Automation of many processes.
  • Easy to work in the console as a Unix-compatible system.

I do not have many buttons on the PC keyboard that are needed to control the OS. What to do?

The Apple keyboard is somewhat different from ordinary computer keyboards, due to the fact that it was originally adapted for Apple operating systems - in particular, Mac OS. That is why some of the buttons may simply not be on the keyboard if you are using a non-Apple keyboard. So:
  • Command Key (⌘) - corresponds to the Windows key on the PC keyboard, but is used to enter keyboard commands, in part similar to the Control key on the Windows operating system.
  • Option key (⌥) - corresponds to the Alt key on a PC keyboard, used to enter accents and special characters, as well as for an alternative option of keyboard commands.
  • Clear key instead of Num Lock key
  • "=" Key on the numeric keypad
  • The fn key (until 2007, the help key) instead of the Insert key
  • Full-size keyboards have a longer row of function keys — up to F15, F16, or even F19. In modern Apple keyboards, the default function keys are used to control the multimedia functions indicated on them (display brightness, volume, music playback, eject CD, etc.), using them as traditional F-keys is possible while simultaneously pressing the fn key.

How to boot intosafe mode?

Safe Mode is a special Mac boot mode where some modules are disabled and checks are made.
Namely:
  • The boot disk is checked and, if necessary, attempts are made to eliminate directory errors.
  • Only necessary kernel extensions are loaded.
  • For the period of being in safe mode, all fonts set by the user are disabled.
  • Disables all startup and login objects (on OS X 10.4 or later).
  • Fonts caches that are stored in the / Libraries/Caches/com.apple.ATS/uid/ folder are moved to the trash, where uid is the user ID (in OS X 10.4 and later).
  • In OS X 10.3.9 or earlier, only launch objects installed by Apple are opened in safe mode. Usually they are located in the / Libraries / StartupItems folder. These objects are different from user account login objects.

 , : download

  1. Start the computer.
  2. After the beep, press Shift.
  3. When the Apple logo appears, release Shift.

When running in safe modeloading may take longer, than usual. If in the upper right corner of the user selection panel a red notification “Download in safe mode” appears, then this operation was successful.
To exit the BR, restart the computer.

To boot in safe modeusing remote access, run the following command:
sudo nvram boot-args = "- x

To download in verbose mode, enter the command
sudo nvram boot-args = "- x -v".)

To exit the BR, run the following command:
sudo nvram boot-args = ""

After copying their kext into System / Library / Extensions, the system writes that they cannot be used.

Install and run Kext Utility after copying drivers.

Lost the cursor. What to do?

Use the key combination Command + Tab to open the Finder, then switch to the active application, or type Command + Option + Escape to force the program to close. If after closing the program the cursor is still invisible, then continue to close other processes.
P.S you can open a terminal and use the command:
End all processes with one command:
pkill Sam *

If the completion of all processes does not help, go to System Preferences>Accessibility>Display and change the size of the cursor so that it appears on the screen again, and then restart the PC.

How to find out my UUID?

Each apple device has its own unique identification number (UUID), which can be used to test beta versions of various applications.
To find out the UUID, click on the "apple" icon in the upper left corner and select "About this computer". Now click on the button "Details" - "System Report" - "Equipment". Find the line “equipment UUID” - this is your personal UUID code.

How to change the username and password in Mac OS X ?.
Login change
  1. Open System Preferences and select Users & Groups;
  2. Now you need to choose the name that you are going to change in the left side;
  3. Find the Full Name column in the right part and click on the line and enter the administrator password to confirm your intentions;
  4. Enter a new name.

Confirm the change of the "login name" by logging out of the system or by restarting the computer - both ways will lead you to the standard login menu. Actual for both OS X 10.7 and OS X 10.9.

In order to change the login in OS X 10.10, go to System Settings ->Users and groups. Click on the lock in the lower left corner, thus unlocking additional features. Then click on the desired name and select, right-click (regular click + Control) and select "Additional Parameters. In the window that opens, change to the desired fields" Account "and" Full Name ".
Attached Image

Change Password
Go to Settings ->Users and groups ->Change password. Enter the old and new (twice) password.
