What are the possibilities of this OS in terms of graphics?

- as the background image you can not put an animation (only the first frame will be visible), but you can use third-party software. This is how Symbian OS works.
- screensavers are placed in separate applications.
- you can change the font
- themes are put as applications
- You can put the game from the N-Gage.
- Photo caller in full screen can be put only with the help of third-party software
- you can view videos in * .avi format, if you install a special application (smartmovie, for example)
- books on a smart (using QReader or another)
- you can view Flash (*. swf) files.

Do I need to put on S ^ 1-S ^ 3 Antivirus?

Its use is not due to anything, since for the existence of Symbian 9.4, not a single virus was found for this OS, and even less for Symbian ^ 3.

Why are there no viruses for Symbian 9.x?

A bit of history:
So back to the distant 2005, when Symbian upset all fans of smartphones with the incompatible new version of the operating system. It is unlikely that Symbian itself was pleased with this state of affairs, but she did not have a way out. Software developers complained about the completely brazen hackers and demanded the built-in OS protection against illegal software. Satisfied anti-virus vendors constantly panicked, happily announcing the next discovered incredibly dangerous virus that removes all the money from the user's account, erases all SMS. The list can be continued for a long time. In general, the developers of the mobile operating system approached the solution of the issue in a comprehensive manner and, among other things, introduced a certification system. It completely solves the problem of viruses and poor-quality software, partially allows you to deal with hackers and improves the overall integrity and reliability of the operating system.
Why then antivirus?
And then, that a regular user has a psychological need to install them on a new smartphone, because this program has to be installed on a home computer even before the local network is configured.
Results:
Do you still have a 30-day trial of F-Secure Mobile Anti-Virus? In vain. We suggest removing it and forgetting about viruses for your wonderful smartphone. Well, do not take anything via Bluetooth from strangers, do not open incomprehensible attachments in spam letters and, of course, do not use warez resources. Why, you ask, because viruses do not exist? It's simple: it's safer, because no one has canceled evil computer geniuses.

File system where what lies?

File systemSymbian OSjust like MS-DOS or Windows is organized with the help of disks and folders. But unlike them, the disk name has a decisive meaning, indicating where the data of each disk is stored and whether it is available for modification.
Drive classification
Disk C: is a phone memory (analogue of a hard disk in a computer). Here are the settings files of standard smartphone programs, contact data, notes, standard melodies, themes, etc. Also here are several system folders with which the smartphone OS interacts. These are the "System" and "Nokia" folders. When working with them, it should be borne in mind that erroneous deletion of information in them may lead to disruption of the smartphone's operating system, after which it may be possible to reinstall it, for which you may even need to contact the service center. Additional software can be installed on this disk, as well as on a memory card, but since its size is much smaller than that available on the memory card, I would advise putting here only those programs that would take up little space and which you would like to use regardless of memory cards.
Disk D: is a system. It is an analogue of the RAM and the Temp folder in the computer. Deleting something manually on this disk can cause the phone to “hang” and the loss of unsaved data. So if you want to free up space in the phone’s memory, it’s better to use special programs for this.
Drive E: represents information on the memory card (if it does not exist, then the memory card is not inserted). The folder structure on the E drive: after installing the programs and saving the data on it, it becomes similar to the folder structure on the C drive: This structure should not be changed manually, since in this case the smartphone programs will lose access to the data on the card. More information about the standard OS folder will be explained below.
Drive Z: - a special disk containing the OS files of the smartphone and all its standard programs (similar to the Windows folder of the computer). Fortunately, unlike the Windows folder, the files on the Z drive are not available for editing, deletion under some conditions, you can only view and copy them. If you perform a full formatting of the smartphone, then only files on the Z: drive will remain on it.

Attention!!! These files are responsible for:
1 - call log
2 - the message log, but which ones it did not understand. Explained in detail:
These files have only numbers in their composition:
1 100
2 10
3 40
4 100
Because I do not really speak English only the meaning of the first, namely:
100 - the size of the call log, that is, when the list of calls exceeds 100, the log will start deleting the oldest one, replacing them with new ones, that is, there will never be more than 100 entries in the log. BUT! You can edit these files manually using a text editor, thereby reducing or increasing the max. The size of the magazine.

What can and should be removed from the C drive?

[!]Some of the methods work only on unlocked smartphones.
[!]Before the operation, enable the display of hidden and system files / folders
[!]Everything was done and tested on 3 Nokia N82 (9.2) smartphones, and did not cause more than one glitch or error.

Background:
All phones have a minus, with active use by an not advanced user, the size of the free memory of the phone decreases dramatically. So I decided to write a solution to the problem.
Of course the simplest solution is to put all applications on the card.
But personally, this does not suit me, since I often take out the card, and I actively use the data transfer mode.

Theory:
Deleting more or less large and conspicuous files frees up space, but not much.
We think further ...
Look at the properties of all the files on the C - 71 MB drive (I have so many)
The total size of the internal memory of my N82 is 132mb
According to the simplest mathematics, it should be free - 61MB ..... BUT! only 43 free! Where did the other 18 go?

So, people, the size of the disk decreases in a similar way not because of BIG, but because of the SMALL files, which, due to the nature of the file system, take up a much larger volume than they are!
This is due to the fixed size of the memory sector where the file is stored, which cannot be changed.
THOSE. even an empty folder or an empty text file, contrary to its properties, takes up a rather large chunk of memory ... :(
Therefore, deleting several small files, the size of which by properties will be equal to 10Kb, can actually free up to 1Mb.

Practice:
Here is a list of what you can * profitably * remove.
(you may not have something, but I don't have something)

System:
Space / cache - MM menu cache
Resource / help - and who uses the help?
Cache - built-in browser cache
System / dmgr - loaded with a standard browser
System / temp - tempo and Africa tempo
Private / 200002c0 / Catalog - cache from Quick software updates catalog
Private / 102072С4 / reserved - reserve for FOTA (firmware on the fly). (just as you will, release 10 meters in the memory of the body)
Private / 20001801 - cache from Download!
Resource / apps - delete all * .R ## files to delete everything except * .R01, * .R16 and * .RSC.
Delete all unnecessary SMS in the memory of the body, since each SMS also produces many small files
Folders _PAlbTN from everywhere and abandon the gallery creating this and folders with a cloud of unnecessary and small files

Third Party Programs:
System / data / Opera / cache4 - opera cache
Data / Ded / positions - cursor position in files
Resco - Resco Viewer cache folder
Data / Fonts / FontRouter.txt - logger
QIP / History - history from QIP
Data / Smaper / anismilies - delete folder with unused set of animated smilies
Data / Smaper / extskins - remove everything that is not under your permission (Owners of 95x and 82x and the like, it makes sense to leave for 320 * 240)
[b]

Tips:[/ b]
- put system applications on the C drive (task managers, file managers, call managers ...), Opera Mini, Python (and all the programs on it), programs whose description says to install 1 small toy in the body and the programs you use everyday.
- ALL other games, programs for navigation, other java, little used and big programs to put on the map.
- I advise you to keep in memory of the body no more than 3-4 topics, the rest is put on the map. But their total number is not more than 15.
- Toggle the mode of saving data and cache for all programs on the memory card. [B]

Result:[/ b]
Freed about 10MB
All this can be done automatically using the programEndclear

How to increase the quality of photos on your smartphone?

[!]For those who alreadyopened full access.

The camera of the smartphone by default compresses photos up to 1 mb, although the reality of the photo with a 5 megapixel camera "weighs" somewhat more ...
After the below manipulations, the photo takes 2-4 mb, quality, naturally, better.

Sequential actions:
- Take a phone with Symbian 9.3
- Copy the file z: / private / 10202BE9 / 10282EDC.txt to c: / private / 10202BE9
- We install on it attributes "read only" - NO.
- Replace with file fromattache, set the attribute "read only" - YES, reboot, we are happy;)
what it changes we can see in a text editor:
CompressionQuality = (at a value of 100) - image quality (Parameter more than 100 does not improve)
EstimatedSize = (to a value of 890000) - maximum output image size
Attached file10282EDC.txt(23.42 KB)

additional information:
- of side effects: the photo remains a little longer (about half a second, as for me)
- done right on smart
- does not adversely affect the operation of the phone
I almost forgot! It is believed that this ... patch (?) Can be used on phones with 9.1; 9.3; 9.4. At the same time, the presence of a 5 megapixel camera is mandatory (!). Simba 9.2 - in question.

Thank you say: Enotche

How to increase the RAM in the smartphone?

Sometimes a smartphone user wants to launch an application, and a smartphone writes foully: "Out of memory", or "not enough free memory." This is a lack of RAM in the smartphone ...
I give you one of the ways to increase RAM:
1. Download and install a program that can kill processes, for exampleKillmeorJbak-taskman

2. Restart the smartphone.

3. Next, set the Offline mode (briefly press off and select this mode).

4. In the settings, remove Active standby-off.

5. RunKillmeand kill the processes Functions>kill or immediately functions>kill everything.
ATJBak Task Man, Functions>Instruments>Clear memory.

6. We are glad!

On my Nokia N73, the RAM reached up to 24.17Mb !!!
But mostly it keeps on ~ 22-23Mb with kopecks.
[!]After clearing the memory, the smart key may not work, the backlight will be on all the time, etc. This is due to the fact that the processes that were responsible for the corresponding functions were killed. After playing for a resource-intensive game, for which you have released RAM, just restart the smartphone to return the dead processes. When you again want to play a game that requires a large amount of free RAM, go toJBak TaskMan, select memory clear and wait a couple of minutes.
Process list:
The processes hanging in RAM are divided into 5 types:
1) quietly closed, albeit with several attempts
2) overload the smartphone
3) just throw in standby
4) cause the smartphone to hang
5) give an unexpected effect :)

Why in Symbian 9.1- ^ 3 the red button (hang up) of the application is not minimized, but closed?

Not all applications are closed this way. Only inactive or written for such closure. A working player, for example, will work.
In order to simply minimize the application, you must press the "menu" button.

Is it possible to install the path when installing applications, in which folder should I install?

Your choice is limited only by where to put the application: on a memory card or in the memory of a smartphone.

Applications / themes / games (installation)

When trying to install an application, the smartphone tries to connect to the Internet.

This is due to the need to authenticate the security certificate that signed the program. It uses either the Internet address you specified forcibly, or the default address set in the "Application Manager" settings.
To avoid this, go to menu → install → application manager → onl. Checking certificates → Off.

Will the program / theme / game created for Symbian OS 6.1 - 8.1 work on a smartphone with Symbian OS 9.1- ^ 3?

Devices running Symbian OS 9.1- ^ 3 are built entirely on the new kernel, so software developed for previous versions of Symbian is not compatible with the new version.

Questions related to certification:
When you try to install the application, a notification appears: "Error in the certificate - contact the supplier of the application!"

1. Menu->facilities->Application Manager->function->Settings->programmed. set the value "all" and checking certificates set "disable" 2. The program you are trying to install does not have a security certificate.
It is necessary to certify this application. About certification detailshere.

When you try to install the application, a notification appears: "The certificate has expired!"

The security certificate of the program has become stuck, for example, the certificate expires on 12/12/2012, and the date on the smartphone is 03/03/2013. Before installing the program, you need to transfer the date on your smartphone, six months ago, install the program, and return the date back. You can alsoorder a new certificate, unlock smartphoneOr flash the smartphone mod firmware.

When you try to install the application, a notification appears: "The certificate has expired or has not started yet!"

The start date of the validity of the certificate that signed the program has not yet arrived.
Before installing the program, translate the date on the smartphone, for 3 - 6 months - go ahead, install the program.

What is a certificate?

A certificate is an electronic document entitling applications to be applied (installed) in the Symbian OS9.x environment for a specific end user. The document puts forward certain requirements for software developers, depending on the development of operating systems and Nokia hardware, which forms a standard condition for determining the term of use - the validity period of the certificate. The certificate contains information identifying the holder (the Symbian company) from which the certificate comes. It is published by certification centers and issued by Symbian.

Is it possible to sign with my certificate, a program for someone else?

No, a personal security certificate is issued only for one IMEI.
It is not possible to install applications signed up for someone else’s IMEI

For each program you need your own certificate, or one suitable for any program?

Once received a certificate, you can sign all programs that require certification, but only for a smartphone on which IMEI certificate was issued.

Will the programs S ^ 1 for S ^ 3 and 9.1 for 9.3?

There is compatibility of Symbian 9.4 with ^ 3 and Symbian 9.1 with 9.2 | 9.3, i.e. You can install applications and games for these OS versions.
P.S.there is compatibility, but remember, not all programs are equally useful!
