If you do not update the A500 / A501 to 3.2 over the air for an indefinite time - perhaps for a long time, a 3.2 rootkit (a software root on a tablet or cable) hasn’t been done for 2 months, it appeared much faster in 3.0-3.1. But even receiving the root will not allow you to install custom commands and maybe even change the firmware due to the fact that the acer has changed the bootloader in the direction of increased protection - the new bootloader does not allow loading kernels and recovery unsigned by the acer. At the end of the boot.img kernels for 3.2, the signature appeared 256 bytes, at 3.1 and there were no self-made ones - the new bootloader checks it judging by the received messages "Boot verifie failed" - this is bad, because puts an end to all mods - replacing the core and maybe the recovery will not work - it looks like instead of “letting go of the reins” the acer would tighten the knot for the most undesirable.
At the moment there are two possible ways to solve the problem of the new bootloader on a500 / a501 - the first is to make a rootkit and reflash the bootloader to an old or modified new one with the ability to load any kernels and recovery - the second is to master the firmware according to yusbi and restore the old bootloader or replace it with a new one .

Installation Procedure:
1. Rename the downloaded file from the link above to update.zip and put it into the root of the microsd card - the easiest, fastest and most reliable option - from a PC via a card reader.
2. We charge more than 30% - the whole process eats up 5% of the battery (with a charge of up to 90%).
3. Turn off the tablet, insert the microsd card, press the volume-up buttons (which is closer to the edge of the tablet) and turn on the power until the update process starts - the whole process takes about 10 minutes.

About root, moding and possible consequences (for 3.0.1) - now it has a purely theoretical meaning.

On the back there are update files for the A500. By type, the files of the type are encoded, although they have the zip extension, and in fact they are really “type” encoded - in short, with WinX using XOR 0x12, these files become normal zip. Unfortunately, nothing joyful brought their contents. Most of the updates are patches, patches for files from a specific firmware, and there’s nothing special about them. But this is not the worst - with such a system update, hopes of getting complete firmware files (to which users of all sorts of Samsung except the nexus got used to so quickly got used to) are getting smaller. In other words, in case of anything, restoring a device from scratch will not be an easy task. This update method kills at the root of all the moding in the systems section, since Any change in at least one file involved in such an update may make it impossible to install the next corporate patch. For example, in the patch I just parsed, only 104 files in the system \ arr directory are corrected, including a calculator, an NFSC, and Sparta heroes. Perhaps these differences led to a number of problems for some users who used CWM 3.2 builds on top of the old bootloader.
CoreThis is the standard Linux kernel for Android, which contains the root of the file system and the kernel code with drivers for all devices. Part of the kernel code - modules - which do not fit into the limited size of the 8 MB kernel are located in the system \ lib \ modules folder. The modules are "tied" to a specific implementation of the kernel and the use of "alien" leads to the inoperability of the system. The kernel is loaded using the bootloader after power up.
