What is an electronic cigarette?

slimest
Electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) is a device that allows you to simulate smoking a regular cigarette, which is jokingly called analog. Smoking an e-cigarette allows you to immediately get rid of dependence on ordinary, analog cigarettes, without denying yourself smoking.

Are e-cigarettes harmful to health?

slimest
There is no serious, truly scientific research at the time of this writing. Nevertheless, it can be assumed that smoking e-cigarettes is less harmful than analog ones. The smoker gets rid of the most harmful component of smoking - smoke, which contains tar, heavy metals, etc. Instead of smoke, we smoke steam. The overwhelming majority of e-smokers noted the disappearance of cough, especially the "smoker's morning cough," an improvement in smell, an improvement in overall well-being. According to my feelings, I would say this: e-cigarettes are much less harmful to health than analog ones.
Some users have noted dry mouth, inflammation of the mucous membranes of the mouth and gums, etc. Most often this occurs at the beginning of e-smoking due to the fact that it is delaying, and users are pulling the e-cigarette all the time. Because of this, slurry condensate accumulates in the mouth, which causes the symptoms described. I developed a simple treatment: rinse my mouth often and brush my teeth. After a few weeks, as a rule, a normal smoking regimen is produced, and everything returns to normal.

I am "blonde" ("blond"). Can I have any technical difficulties when switching from analog to e-cigarettes?

slimest
Of course they can. A regular cigarette requires minimal action and knowledge: it suffices to be able to use a cigarette lighter and to be able to find non-flammable places for shaking off the ashes. Operation of an e-cigarette still requires some maintenance: drip liquid into a cartridge, replace it or an atomizer, charge batteries, etc. Nevertheless, it is quite easy.

Is e-smoking expensive?

slimest
Let's count together: the starter kit is about $ 50- $ 60. Plus a small amount of spare parts - about another $ 20. Next is the consumer - e-liquid. The average smoker smokes about $ 10 e-liquid per month. Total your initial investment pays off very quickly and the era of savings begins compared to buying analog cigarettes. Plus - the lack of hardened holes in clothing and furniture.

How are e-cigarettes arranged?

slimest
The e-cigarette consists of 3 main parts:
  1. A power source (battery), which can be turned on either with a button (manual control, or manual) or with a special device located inside the battery that reacts to tightening and turns on the power at the time of tightening (automatic). Despite the seeming promise of automatic control, at present most e-cigarettes are hand-operated: it is safer and more convenient.
  2. Atomizer, which is the "heart" of the e-cigarette and serves to evaporate a special liquid for smoking. The atomizer contains a heating element that, when energized from the battery, evaporates the liquid. Smoking e-cigarette remains to drag on this steam.
  3. A cartridge that stores a small amount of liquid and supplies it to the atomizer heater.

Recently, the so-called cartomizers, which are both an atomizer and a cartridge, are becoming more and more common. Their design is constantly being improved. I suspect that their future.

What are smoking fluids?

slimest
These fluids are often called e-liquids, or, in the jargon of e-smokers, liquids. They consist of solvents (propylene glycol, glycerin, water in different proportions, or some other solvents), to which nicotine is added in one concentration or another and flavoring composition that gives e-liquids a particular taste. There are tastes close to tobacco, and come with the smell of fruit, spirits, coffee, sweets, etc.

All you convinced me. Where can I get an e-cigarette?

slimest
You can buy e-cigarettes in many stores, at gas stations, in special retail outlets dedicated to tobacco, Russian online stores. But buying cigarettes in Russia is about 2-3 times more expensive than in Chinese online stores. Their addresses are in the topic header. You can also choose European stores. The choice is yours.

And which e-cigarette model is better to buy for a novice?

slimest
Many beginners want to get a complete analogue of the usual cigarette. But the smaller and lighter the model, the more often it will be necessary to change the batteries and more often to charge them. Usually some time after the purchase of a compact model, the smoker switches to cigarettes with a more capacious battery.
At the time of this writing, the most universal model that develops and fits most users is eGo. For some sellers, this model may be called Tornado, etc., but this is still eGo. There are many more e-cigarette models, including hand-made ones, but I would not recommend buying them without having significant e-smoking experience.
Also in Russia you can find e-cigarettes with their own brand names, for example, Pons, Ritchy, etc. As a rule, these cigarettes have full analogs among Chinese cigarettes and differ only in name and very inflated price, since in fact, they are extremely cheap. In addition, these cigarettes are very weak batteries. Some users are satisfied with such products, it is their choice. But I can not recommend them for purchase, judging by the numerous reviews.

Usually, e-cigarette starter kits are sold, consisting of two batteries and two atomizers, a battery charger and a small number of cartridges. Do I need to immediately purchase something else?

slimest
Yes need. I advise you to immediately purchase a second charger, a dozen cartridges (no longer needed) and several atomizers. Newbies usually burn (not necessarily irreversibly) one or two atomizers during the first week or two. Also of course you need to buy fluids for smoking. It is a thankless task to advise which liquids to buy to a beginner, since not only the taste, but also the concentration of nicotine are purely individual. For starters, you can try 6-12-18 mg / ml nicotine concentration. I strongly advise you to immediately buy a solvent in order to dilute the excess concentration, if necessary. 100 ml of propylene glycol will be enough for you for a long time. Not bad for propylene glycol to buy glycerin, because when you don’t experiment with mixtures, glycerin can be an alternative solvent for you.
Recently, it is possible to fully recommend replacing atomizers and cartridges with modern cartomizers.

In general, are there any recommendations for the first purchase of everything needed for a beginner?

slimest
For a start, you can use this scheme (the names are based on those from the site Heaven-gifts):
  1. EGo starter kit
  2. Second battery charger
  3. Dekang liquids: Dunhill, Turkish Blended, Cuba Cigar (some), Cherry, Camel, HG Flue Cured Tobacco. You can try Marlboro. Not bad 55 but my son doesn't like the smell. Depending on the intensity of your smoking, you can order 30 ml or 10 ml vials. Nicotine concentrations for intensive smokers (about 2 packs per day) I recommend 18 mg, and for less intense 11 mg. But to each his own. I advise you to order liquids in the first order with a total volume of no more than 100 - 200 ml and, if possible, different. My priorities are listed above.
  4. A pair of Mega-atomizers with a diameter of 14 mm and no more than five cartridges for them. Very capacious and pleasantly smoked. You will get the opportunity to try different smoking systems.
This set is enough for you to try, navigate and understand how you will continue to smoke. Immediately I will explain that the set is verified by experience and is the minimum necessary for switching to e-smoking. Further questions about the purchase of additional batteries, atomizers, etc. - it is a purely individual matter, because the specified set is enough to figure out, orient oneself and, on the basis of preferences, order what is really necessary.

I just tried the e-cigarette for the first time. Gathered, put the refilled cartridge, dragging out, dragging out - but it does not smoke ...

slimest
E-cigarette works differently than analog. When you draw on an analog cigarette, the more smoke and strength you get, the more vigorously you draw on, because the tip burns, and puff gives traction. As a result, the more you pull on an analog cigarette, the more smoke you get. And the e-cigarette smokes from the energy of the heater, which does not depend on the force of the puff. Therefore, the best way to smoke an e-cigarette is to pull in without effort (as if you are trying an unfamiliar and very strong analog cigarette, for fear of “hitting”) and for a long time (about 5 seconds). Then you get a strong and fragrant smoke. And if you pull in vigorously, the outside air is mixed into the smoke with a corresponding effect.
In addition, it is advisable to prepare a new atomizer: drop a few drops of e-liquid directly on the heater (bridge), wait a couple of minutes, and then screw it to the battery, insert the cartridge and smoke. If you still do not smoke, do not force, smoke with short taps on the button with simultaneously short puffs. Soak between puffs. Sometimes it is not fast (depending on the atomizer). Some atomizers are badly smoked initially. I tried to analyze the reasons, and my opinion is that in such atomizers the wick lying on the heater has either an insufficient fit area or simply insufficient volume. I am treating such atomizers simply: take out the old wick and insert my own. It helps, and how.

You say that newbies burn atomizers. How does this happen? And is it possible to avoid?

slimest
An atomizer heater is simply a nichrome spiral, the same as in an iron or other household appliances. This coil works in e-liquid, therefore it becomes covered with soot. Like any nichrome heater, the helix burns out sooner or later. But burnout is extreme. Most often, in the heating zone, between the heater and the wick, a dense soot is formed, which does not allow liquid to flow to the heater. Thus, an atomizer is a consumable item that cannot last forever. An experienced user can extend the life of the heater (read - atomizer), constantly keeping it in the wetted state and not allowing heating with an insufficient amount of liquid in this zone. Beginners, on the other hand, often miss the moment of drying and thereby provoke the appearance of a hard-to-remove scum in the heating zone, which prevents the heater from wetting and thus evaporating the liquid. The result - the atomizer seems to be heated, some kind of evaporation occurs, but there is little smoke and it stinks with plastic. Further, the newcomer is trying to achieve normal smoking, pulling the "dry" atomizer and as a result either burns through the coil, or (more often) sets the wick in contact with the heater. And gets an inoperative atomizer.

And how can I determine that I am “burning” the atomizer or smoking a dry wick?

slimest
In general, it is a burnt aftertaste. But this is already in neglected cases. With experience, I accepted the following rule: if you even have a slight desire to cough when tightening, then it’s time to either fill the cartridge or change the wick on the heater. With normal wetting the cough heater should not be in principle.

And how to achieve constant wetting of the atomizer heater?

slimest
The best way for me is very simple.modificationcartridges using the tube from the cocktails. In addition, you should try to work out the regime characteristic of e-smoking: instead of sharp, deep and frequent puffs, try to tighten yourself slowly and deeply, while making enough pauses to soak the heater zone out of the cartridge. Remember: no one drives you with an e-cigarette - smoke faster, or it will end!, The cigarette does not burn like a fuse, it smokes only when you want it.

I tried (a) the modification of the cartridge you described using a tube. It works fine, but if I fill the cartridge completely with liquid, when I insert such a cartridge into the atomizer, the liquid flows out. What am I doing wrong?

slimest
If you insert a completely filled cartridge into the atomizer completely, the atomizer bridge will press the cotton in the cartridge and squeeze the liquid out of it by analogy: if you compress the foam sponge, water will flow out of it. When replacing a used cartridge, I first insert the freshly-filled cartridge not fully, leaving about 1 - 1.5 millimeters of gap. I smoke a new cartridge in this position, and then, after a few puffs, I am sending the cartridge to the atomizer until it stops. To prevent leakage from the cartridge can also help the use of cork larger volume and, consequently, greater density. The main thing here is not to overdo it, otherwise a completely tightly inserted cork will impede the flow of fluid to the wick and heater.
-QwertY-prompted one more simple technique as a countering the leakage, effective in particular when using mega-atomizers: just plug the central, axial hole of the atomizer from the side of the connector, for example with a piece of paper napkin. This hole is only needed when using batteries with automatic ignition, and with manual control it serves only as an additional channel for leaks, especially at the time of screwing or unscrewing the atomizer. However, this hole is useful when flushing the atomizer, so it is worthwhile to consider the possibility of removing the cork made by you. Attention: in no case do not push your cork deep into the hole, otherwise the channel of air will be closed for tightening and the atomizer will be damaged. If you are not sure, it is better not to make such a modification.

Still, my atomizer began to work poorly. The spiral seems to be intact, it heats up, but the symptoms of “burning” are similar to those described earlier: the smoke is weak and smells bad.

slimest
The simplest thing is to replace it with a new one, especially if you do not really know how to work with your hands. The new atomizer costs about 200 rubles in China, it is quite possible to afford. Another option is to use cartomizers instead of atomizers and cartridges. They are cheaper and require less maintenance. If you still want to reanimate the atomizer, replacein it a wick. For me, replacing a wick is a common routine that takes a couple of minutes.
In addition, it is sometimes useful to periodically flush the atomizer. There are many recipes for washing: this is soaking in various liquids, from alcohol to pepsi-cola and even acetic acid, and simply washing under a running tap. I tried different methods of washing (except, of course, delusional recommendations for the use of acids and soda). Of course, this flushing will not remove a coked carbon residue, but at least it will remove the old liquid from the atomizer. Recently, atomizers have practically ceased to be washed: I just try to use them all the time, not letting them lie without action, and I change wicks more often. And of course I periodically burn the heater, after removing the wick.
It must be remembered: if you washed the atomizer, it does not contain any liquid at all. And inside the atomizer space for slurry nemeryannom. Therefore, after washing (and, of course, drying or at least blowing), immediately before use, drop a couple of drops of smoking liquid onto the atomizer bridge, put a freshly-used cartridge, wait a few minutes and then begin to smoke. At first, you probably won't get normal smoke. In this case, you do not need to force and pull until the smell of burning. The method is: one or two puffs, then a pause. Make sure that the atomizer is not flooded. The sign of flooding is fluid in the connector between the atomizer and the battery and squelching sounds during puffs. If this happens, remove the cartridge, unscrew the atomizer, wipe both sides of the connector, wipe the threads of the atomizer and blow it from the side of the thread (mouth, through the center hole). Before blowing, push a wipe corner into the atomizer on the heater side, it will absorb excess liquid. Next, put everything in place and try again to smoke. The main thing - do not force. As a result, five to ten minutes of smoking will give you an atomizer that works fine for a couple of weeks. After the atomizer is smoked, it is not harmful to check the cartridge: often after smoking, the cartridge becomes empty, because the washed atomizer takes up most of the liquid.

You claim that a dozen cartridges will last long. But maybe they need some care? Or is it enough just to refill them?

slimest
I take out a cork from a cotton fleece (padding polyester) at each used cartridge with tweezers, rinse it under hot water and shake off the water. Then put the cotton wool on a clean, dry cloth. There I put the washed cartridge and cork. I wash the cartridge in the following way: separately, I direct the water jet into the tank for liquid and shake it off, and separately - into each of the lateral air ducts on both sides of the tank for slurry. At the end of the procedure, carefully shake out the water and put it to dry.
I recall that the concept of "cork made of cotton" makes sense if you use the above-described modification of the cartridge tube. I strongly advise you to make this modification for all cartridges you use.

Something my e-cigarette doesn’t smoke ... Or rather smokes, but everything is somehow unstable: it seems like great smoke, sometimes it smells like smoke, it doesn’t pull at all ...

slimest
The electronic cigarette differs from the analog one both in design and in smoking method. The e-cigarette contains liquid that flows through the wick to the heater. The heater evaporates the liquid regardless of the intensity of puffing (the cow gives as much milk as she can). Fluid enters the heater at a rate that the wick and cartridge can provide. Hence the basic principles of smoking electronic cigarettes:
  1. Always keep the heater wet. Do not let it dry up. To do this, make sure that the cartridge is not empty, or if you pull the liquid too fast, as a result of which the wick simply does not cope with the transfer of liquid to the atomizer. If you want to quickly - make a modification of the cartridges using a cocktail tube. Simple and effective.
  2. Delay yourself very slowly and for a long time. When you smoke an analog cigarette, the amount of smoke is provided by a pulling force, because Smoker inflates a cigarette with his breath. E-cigarette "can not be inflated" - the heater provides as much heat as the battery provides. If you pull heavily, air is mixed in and you will not feel smoke. It is sometimes difficult for a beginner to get used to it, but you just need to "drive in". Do you want to smoke delicious e-cigarette - never hurry. I remember how, being an inexperienced e-smoker, I even created additional holes in e-cigarettes in order to achieve better traction. But it was necessary to do the opposite: draw in so that the air would flow only into the "combustion chamber", and in no case into other, extraneous holes, which are unmeasured.
Pause between puffs. The wick is not a bucket of liquid. He needs to be given time to deliver fluid to the heater. This is just a wick. If you really want to tighten several times with taste, but it does not work out, take out the cartridge, drop a couple of drops of liquid directly onto the atomizer bridge and drag on. If it still does not work, change the atomizer, or reanimate it, the spiral probably burned.Atomizer resuscitation is described above..
