There's probably a problem in the video card. Often, when a video goes out, the card disappears.
There is no switch as such. A small magnet in the lid of the matrix and the so-called "reed switch" which reacts to a magnet.
If there is no matrix illumination, there may be a problem in the matrix, cable, video card or even in the motherboard.
