My little gift to all WM2003 (SE) users: the wonderful Opera Mini 5 browser!
During testing of Windows Mobile version of the current release of Opera Mini 5 beta (read more about it here
http://www.smartphonemag.com/cms/blog/9/na...and-just-great)I also tested it on my old IPAQ 2210 with WM2003 system.
Of course, the CAB installer did not work, because it was compressed: however, after manual unpacking, the application started working. This fully applies to both WM2003 and WM2003SE, and this is great news for all users who came with these old operating systems and had no WM2003 (SE) -compatible browser for a long time. (EMNIP, there was Opera Mobile version 8.65, almost three years ago, which still supports the OS - no other versions after that, except, of course, PIE plug-ins.)
In general, I whipped up the CAB file so that it can work under WM2003 (SE). You can download it here.
http://winmobiletech.com/sekalaiset/om5.zip. (Unpack it before installation!)
Here is a quick guide for those who want to do the same:
1, in order to unzip the source CAB file (along with the INF file), download MSCEInf from here
http://www.freewareppc.com/download/utilities/msceinf.shtml2, in order to squeeze new, WM2003-compatible CAB files, download CabWiz. This is a component of Visual Studio, which is available in many utilities for working with cabs, for example, QuickCab 2.0, it can be downloaded from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=400221. You will need only two cabwiz. * Files (cabwiz.exe and cabwiz.ddf).
By the way, if you just want to quickly deploy some files to predefined locations (if the application does not support transfer) and / or make some changes to the registry, this is easy to do using QuickCab. It is not suitable for our needs, because unlike CabWiz it does not support moving. Thus, we only have to extract the necessary files from it.
3, unpack MSCEInf to any directory on your computer; run it. Drag the cab files into it with the mouse.
4, click "Extract CAB with the original names in the folder" (the seventh icon in the panel on the left). Extract the files to any empty folder. Create
approx. An INF file that describes the names of the installation package files, shortcuts to create, path strings needed to install the application in any other place, such as a memory card, and so on.
5, copy 2 cabwiz. * Files to the same folder as the newly created INF. Enter the command "cabwiz INF_filename" and a cab file will be created. The Sabwiz.ddf file defines the output as uncompressed (see the Compress = OFF option in it), so the installer will be compatible with WM2003.
Note that you will need a good and free cab creation application to install the application in any place except the built-in memory.
Please note, I also tested Opera Mobile 10 - neither the first beta nor the final release is compatible with WM2003 (SE).
