Detailed description of how to install ROCKBOX on iPod: And so we begin the installation.
First you need to download some files from the site
http://www.rockbox.org/ :
1. iPodpatcher
2. iPod fw
3. ROCKBOX From this link select ROCKBOX for your iPod model.
4. Next, select the bootloader, for each version it is separate:
iPod Photo
iPod 4G (Grayscale)
iPod Nano
iPod video
Further
Go to start>Run>we type cmd and in the opened black, scary window we type the following ...
Attention!!! We recruit the team exactly as it says here and no initiative (extra space or something like that), otherwise nothing will work.
So create the rockbox folder on drive C:
c: (enter)
cd \ (enter)
md rockbox (enter)
cd rockbox (enter)
P.S. - enter and do not type brackets! The c: \ rockbox folder appeared on your C drive, we transfer to it the four files that we downloaded from the site
http://www.rockbox.org.
Next, connect the iPod to the computer, iTunes is closed, in iTunes enable the function of using iPod as a hard drive
Pod can be used as a hard disk for storing and transferring files.
First you need to run iTunes
Next, select your iPod in the Source iTunes list and click on the options button.
Select the General menu and set the Enable disk use option.
When using iPod as a hard disk, the iPod disk icon appears on the Macintosh desktop, and a new disk appears in Windows Explorer on the Windows Explorer computer with the next free letter.
Tip: Setting the "Manually manage songs and playlists" option in the Options window also makes it possible to use iPod as a hard drive.
Tip: You must use iTunes to transfer music files to your iPod. Songs transferred using iTunes will not be visible in the Macintosh Finder or Windows Explorer (Explorer). Similarly, if you copy music files to iPod using the Macintosh Finder or Windows Explorer (Explorer), you cannot play them on iPod.
But as they say "out of every problem you can find a way out if you try."
We determine what kind of disk your iPod appears to be, for this in the same black window (I hope you did not close it), we type the following ...
ipodpatcher 0 (enter)
ipodpatcher 1 (enter)
ipodpatcher 2 (enter)
ipodpatcher ... (enter) and type until your iPod is detected. ! Remember the number! Your iPod is identified.
In the same window, type the following ipodpatcher -r X bootpartition.bin where X is the number that you remember.
Next, type ipod_fw -o apple_os.bin -e 0 bootpartition.bin
Next, IF YOU have iPod Video, type the following: ipod_fw -o apple_sw_5g_rcsc.bin -e 1 bootpartition.bin IF ANOTHER MODEL Ignore this and go on ...
1. iPod 4G (grayscale) - type ipod_fw -g 4g -o rockboot.bin -i apple_os.bin bootloader-4g.bin
2. iPod Photo - type ipod_fw -g color -o rockboot.bin -i apple_os.bin bootloader-color.bin
3. iPod Nano - type ipod_fw -g nano -o rockboot.bin -i apple_os.bin bootloader-nano.bin
4. iPod Video - type ipod_fw -g video -o rockboot.bin -i apple_os.bin bootloader-video.bin
Next, start flashing the iPod ...
We type ipodpatcher -w X rockboot.bin where X is the number you remembered.
We pull out the cable from the iPod, the player starts to reboot and tries to load the ROCKBOX, but it doesn’t work because the ROCKBOX itself has not yet been poured.
After the player has downloaded Apple firmware, we connect the cable again to the iPod.
(the black window can already be closed)
Next, open the explorer and find your iPod. In the folder with: \ rockbox you will find a ZIP archive that we downloaded at the beginning of the installation.
Open the iPod and fill the contents of the archive into the root directory of the iPod (by simply dragging the mouse). Now, if you did everything correctly, ROCKBOX is uploaded to your iPod.
Again we pull out the cable from the iPod, it reboots ...
Everything, when loading, ROCKBOX starts !!! So that it does not seem so scary to you, download from the site
http://www.rockbox.orgdifferent topics.
To boot into Apple firmware at boot, press and hold MENU.
In order to get everything back (delete ROCKBOX) in the same black window, in the same way as we typed before, we type ipodpatcher -w X bootpartition.bin where X is the same number that we remembered and that's it.
Now you don’t need iTunes to upload music to your iPod, just copy it directly to your iPod or the folder or folders you created in it, as you wish.
