Here PRO can be a very interesting tablet, in fact, a laptop with an excellent display and a weight of 600-700 grams, such a thing if you can correctly overshadow even an ipad ..
It would be great to use 1C, office, other specials. programs and sending the whole thing easily to the printer (usb), and in your free time run age of emperies, starcraft ...
I wonder what will be its autonomy, and if it is a good tablet, then it is very likely that it will replace my laptop, Kindle Fire and partially ipad ..
and RT will have a chance, only in case of the x86 program emulator support .. imho ..

Rep: (92)
drivexp , above it is written: weight - 903 grams. It will be a bit heavy, unfortunately.

I decided to make a list of pros and cons.
Minuses:
1) weight - 903 grams . For the tablet a bit much, of course. On the other hand, you have to be quite a gasp so as not to hold a weight less than a kilogram in your hands :) But compared to other tablets, it’s not very good.
2) thickness - 14 mm . Also obviously not the thinnest of tablets, almost one and a half centimeters. Although this is not the worst indicator, it is unlikely to be felt by a thick thing, just rather big and weighty.
3) it seemsthere will be no built-in 3G modem . For any other tablet (not on Windows), an automatic machine would mean a strong decrease in interest in our country (due to the still fairly low Wi-Fi prevalence). However, this is not just a toy tablet, this is a real computer in miniature, so the lack of 3G will probably have to be forgiven (it’s doubtful that the MS will make a version with a built-in modem). And, it seems, it is necessary to use the crutch in the form of a USB modem.
4) questionable battery life . MS say 6 hours, how much will actually be - only the tests will show. We do not forget that a great deal depends on the degree of loading of the apparatus. It's one thing to sit in ICQ or read a book, another thing is to drive some kind of 3D toy. In any case, the operating time should be expected less than on most tablets with ARM architecture.
5) non-optimized majority of touch interface software . This includes small icons / icons, small scroll bars, and (most likely) repetition of an ill-conceived control of the RT version (launching an application — double-clicking, etc.; it would be much more convenient to do it on the same android: one tap - this is launch = left mouse button, long tap - these are properties = right mouse button)
6) possible lack of support for older applications (for example, under Windows XP). In the network, information slipped that the developers of the eight, apparently with the aim of reducing the volume occupied by the system, "cut out" the XP-shki code that remained even in the seventh Windows. Like it or not - time will tell.
7) instant switch . An obvious minus, which will be a little annoying, but with which nothing can be done. Unlike Android and iOS, you will have to wait here for a while (most likely seconds), even if the device was in hibernation mode.
8) screen aspect ratio . If you find fault, then such an elongated screen (16: 9) is not as easy to use as, for example, the iPad screen (4: 3, or, in a different way, 16:12). But this is more of a niggle.
9) case heating . It will surely be morally ready. But this is the reverse side of the medal of the platform power that is inside the tablet.

Pros:
1) real multitasking . You can be sure that nothing will close by itself, and information will not be lost, as it sometimes happens on an android.
2) support a huge amount of software written over the decades of the existence of Windows (with reservations - see above). We must not forget that a large amount of software is unique and exists in normal form only for Windows (for me personally - Guitar Pro, Cubase and their ilk)
3) support for no less than a huge amount of all kinds of "iron" , because for all these mouse-keyboards, printers and other accessories there are all the necessary drivers (and, apparently, most of the necessary drivers will already be embedded in the system, as in the "seven").
4) almost absolute customizability of the system (reasonably, of course). This is not a closed iOS, here, even without complicated manipulations and hacking of the system, much can be done for you.
5) new touch interface . Somewhat controversial, I personally didn’t like it for a long time, but lately I began to understand its convenience, it would certainly be better to control my fingers than a regular desktop. Yes, and probably in the near future after the release of the device, the craftsmen will finish this interface to the most convenient state.
6) exterior and body materials tablet. It looks quite beautiful and serious - magnesium alloy makes itself felt.
7) keyboard cover support . A cool chip, a really good idea and a good performance (of course, take a better Type Cover - and according to the owners' reviews, and just out of habit feel the keystroke).
8) comfortable stand . If it were not, of course, it would be possible to buy some kind of cover with a stand. But someone does not want to spend money, someone is too lazy ... And here she just is already right away with the tablet. In addition, judging by the reviews of the owners of the RT version, it does not play, has an automatic finishing mechanism and in the closed position does not interfere at all. Another very good MS decision.
9) Built-in memory - 64 or 128 gigabytes. Wow :) Of course, for a real Windows, this is not very much, a considerable part of the system will surely gobble up, but we are talking about a tablet :) Therefore, it is better to take immediately from 128 GB. In addition, there is support for MicroSDXC cards (already on sale for 128 gigabytes), which is also cool.
10) FullHD display with a resolution of 1920 Г— 1080, the density of points is 214 ppi. Needless to say, the resolution is worthy. How good the display will be according to the other characteristics, the tests will show.
11) stylus support (and comes immediately in the kit). I really hope that there will be buttons on the stylus and with its help it will be possible to control the tablet almost like a mouse - the left button, the right button ... For the same toys it will be very cool. Just imagine how comfortable it will be to play some kind of strategy ... :)
12) very worthy "iron" (worthy for tablets) - video card Intel HD Graphics 4000 her performance surprisingly not bad , you can really play good 3D toys: blush: If "Mass Effect 3" flies at high settings ... Third-generation Intel Core i5 processor, 4 gig of RAM is better, I have a weaker stationary computer, while I he is completely satisfied.
13) stereo speakers . The time of the mono-monopodgers, let's hope, is coming to an end. You should not expect cool Hi-Fi sound, but watch the film certainly enough.
14) full size USB . Another yummy, which is not the vast majority of tablets. Even some tablets on Win8 (for transformers, it is usually located in the docking station, and here it is right in the device).
15) lower price in comparison with other tablets on Win8 due to the lack of need for the manufacturer to pay for the OS itself.

Rep: (2)
6) the possible lack of support for relatively old applications (for example, under Windows XP). In the network, information slipped that the developers of the eight, apparently with the aim of reducing the volume occupied by the system, "cut out" the XP-shki code that remained even in the seventh Windows. Like it or not - time will tell.

In 8-ke there is a compatibility mode, in my hospital, applications for xp normally work

11) support for the stylus (and comes immediately bundled). I really hope that there will be buttons on the stylus and with its help it will be possible to control the tablet almost like a mouse - the left button, the right button ... For the same toys it will be very cool. Just imagine how comfortable it will be to play some kind of strategy ... :)

That's about the stylus wondering whether it will be separate or built into the body

It's good. However, with this mode there are still nuances - not everything that went under XP went to Win7. I will not go into the reasons, and I don’t really know, but fact is a fact.
That's about the stylus wondering whether it will be separate or built into the body

90% sure that he will be separate:
First, it looks large enough and with protruding parts, which it would be more convenient to give up if the stylus were built in.
Attached Image

Secondly, from the sides and from above there is no connector for this stylus, only the option remains - from the bottom, but it would not be the most reasonable solution, because from there it is simply inconvenient to get it - either the tablet is or the keyboard is attached to it.

By the way, on the stylus itself is visible to the charging connector (the same as the tablet). The buttons on it would also look logical, but they are not visible on this renderer.

Added by:
Good news. It seems that it will be not just a stylus "poking", but Wacom'ovskydigitizer.
Onvideo(Review of Prestigio Multipad 8.0, but it does not matter), you can see the stylus that looks almost one-in-one as a stylus on the Microsoft renderer (unlike in a proprietary connector for charging the stylus from Microsoft, which is logical, well, and on top of the stylus from the MS is rounded). And if so, it is reasonable to increase the interest in the tablet by wanting to make sketches on a tablet (it is possible that for professionals, but it depends on the quality of performance), but for ordinary users, plus you can find available on the stylus button - thus, it can be used as a mouse: just touch the screen - left mouse button, the touch of a button held down - the Edit button of the mouse. Practical application is huge - this application to work and play ... In general, the complete replacement of rodent :) Also, carry a mouse in this case will be optional.

Things contradict each other! If this is a Wacom stylus, then no charging is required. Most likely, either the stylus is a Melkomyagk creation, or it’s just a magnetic connector to stick it to the tablet, and no charging. I really hope that the second, because if not Vak, I will definitely not take the tablet.
By the way, there may already be owners of the RT version, who can say if the Wacom stylus works with it?

Corrected the processor in the header.
As far as I know, the device will go on sale not earlier than the New Year.

Rep: (1)
"Dimensions (LxWxD) 190x142x14 mm" - don't you think this is nonsense? Calculate for the sake of interest the diagonal.

Rep: (92)
guserg right Even on Wikipedia, the correct data is given: 275 Г— 173 Г— 13.5 mm. It is necessary to correct the information in the header.

Another thought came to my mind: if such a smart processor is used here, it will probably have to be blown with a cooler, as in other similar devices. In this case, it becomes clear strange "departure" of the back of the tablet from his "body". Admittedly, the solution with almost imperceptible technological holes for ventilation around the perimeter of the Surface Pro case looks much more interesting and elegant than the one in the Samsung SmartPC Pro, where a bunch of cutouts are made all over the back of the tablet.

And one more good news for those who, perhaps, are experiencing due to the small size of various switches, icons, buttons in Windows (this applies mainly to the ordinary desktop, because in Modern UI everything is more or less finger-oriented). The cause of concern can be a discrepancy between the size of the fingers and icons, as well as a rather large screen resolution Surface Pro.
In Windows, there is a remarkable function of scaling text and other elements on the screen (the right button on the desktop is the screen resolution — to make text and other elements larger or smaller). So the moaning of some reviewers on the topic “everything is fine here and therefore uncomfortable” can be safely ignored :)

Switching on exactly that instantaneous, for example on the DUO11, even the power on mode takes a few seconds. From sleep output goes less than a second. Hibernation as such is not needed, consumption in a dream is about 1% per day.
The management of classic applications and finger is normal.

To be honest, I still believe with great difficulty. As they say, proof in the studio.

By on / off time. From what I found: Windows 8 off and on time . Shut down - 10 seconds. Turning on (before loading Lockscreen) - 31 seconds.
Windows 8 time to enter and exit hibernation. Sleep mode is 14 seconds. Exit from sleep mode - 8 seconds.
Some people write in the comments that these processes take less time. On Windows 7 (the computer is also stationary), it takes 28 seconds to go to sleep, 25 seconds to exit. Turn off - 30 seconds, turn on - 40.
Is there some morevideo from DUO11where at least 11 seconds elapse before the system is booted, but the moment when the power button is pressed is not shown there.
In general, hibernation is just created for mobile devices like laptops and their ilk.HereThe differences between sleep, hibernation and hybrid mode are described.

About the purchase. Friends, if someone still does not know, another good news: the German online store computeruniverse did due to the large volume of orders from Russia Russian version of the site , all products are described in Russian, prices are automatically converted into rubles, the cost of delivery to Russia is also indicated :) Why am I this: surely Surface Pro will appear in Germany a few months earlier than in Russia, and the price will most likely also be below. Shop proven.

About the 3G connection. In order not to create another competition for manufacturers of Windows-based devices, Microsoft abandoned the tablet version with a 3G module. One of the solutions to this problem is to use a USB 3G modem. Everyone understands the minus of such a decision - an absurdly sticking thing on the side of the tablet, which will interfere, and just look out of place. Found an interesting approach from one of the manufacturers of such modems - horizontal turning mechanism . True, this is a 3G Wi-Fi router, and we just need a modem. If someone stumbles upon such - let me know, it will be useful for everyone. Is there some more Vertical Modem Modems , but they have nowhere to turn, they will interfere in the same way as those who do not turn.

to turn on / off time. From what he had found: switch-off time and switching windows 8. Switching off - 10 seconds. Inclusion (before loading lokskrina) - 31 seconds. Windows 8 is the entry and exit time from sleep mode. Hibernate - 14 seconds. Wakeup - 8 sekund.Nekotorye people write in the comments, that they have these processes take less time. I have Windows 7 (PC also stationary) Hibernation takes 28 seconds out of it - 25 seconds. Off - 30 seconds, switch - 40.Est video with more DUO11, where the at least 11 seconds before the system boots, but there's not shown when you press any button vklyucheniya.A hibernation just created for mobile devices such as laptops and others them. Here we describe the differences between sleep, hibernation, and hybrid mode.

I'm happy for your win7 but this is a different system. A full cycle of restarting (from pressing restart to lock-screen) is about 22 seconds, 12 seconds of which is off, exit from sleep mode is about 1 second. This is for DUO11 based on i5. I just measured it myself. There is no reason to think that a mayncousoft subnote on a similar basis will somehow differ in these indicators.
I know what hibernation is, but in the case of wines 8, I don’t see the point, the charge in sleep mode is minimal.
I also tried it, it takes an average of 17 seconds to reboot to lockscreen, if I'm interested I can upload videos. In general, well done Microsoft (and Sony).

VisitorBD,

I'm on inpatient costs 8, asus P6TSE motherboard, i7-930, 6 gb ram 1333 mhz kingston, 2 hdd - WD raptor velocity 120 gb such as 10,000 rpm spindle speed (it costs the system) and WD green editin or something like 500 GB. So I after formatting and installation of the net eight cargoes for 9-13 seconds after pressing a button on the system unit !!! The computer I have always in sleep mode, turn off only when the unit system to remove or translate, smart and easy to use system. Monique I touch, sometimes leaf through news and photos, cool, but no more ... on your computer is not enough already of the features! In the combined control - just a fairy tale) I'm afraid to imagine how fast she was loaded on a system with a new pci-express, ssd via pci-ex 3.0 and good RAM on a normal motherboard with the latest percent)

Ideally, I see myself the perfect tablet ... but almost nothing ...)) Very good display (watch movies and read newses) + long battery life and a good permanent connection to Internet, so you can access your powerful desktop computer and to do all that is necessary (if you need more computational work, and you are away from home for example!). Because it does not say gentlemen and a 20-inch monitor + high quality, coupled with the normal manipulators and play and work a lot more pleasant and do anything about it can not be soon. Huawei MediaPad 10 FHD 16Gb 3G good vesch on vedroide but not unseemly for 20 to give the robot !!! I hope that the surface pro is sufficiently capacious battery. As well as alternative considered some sort of ceiling ... but nothing else SGN2 not found, there I did not like the display and the camera ... I've heard that they want to release plafonchik portends failure (

Another 1 reason for the small-size - high-quality products. So we are waiting for Surface pro from MS (I hope Billy does not disappoint)!

the use of USB 3G-modem. All clear disadvantage of this solution - is ridiculous contraption sticking out the side of the tablet, which will interfere with, and just look out of place. I found an interesting approach of one of the manufacturers of modems - a horizontal rotating mechanism. However, it is 3G Wi-Fi router, and we just need a modem. If someone stumbles on such - let me know, all will be helpful. There are more modems with a vertical rotating mechanism, but especially there is no place to turn, will prevent as well as a non-rotatable.

Why so pervert and pay a lot of money for the device just because it has a special USB connector? It is much easier to take heresuch angular adapterorsuch an adapter, and with any affordable and suitable 3G modem, nothing much will stick around. And if thickness allows, you can even takesuch an adapterand then nothing will stick around at all. Delov something! ;)
P.S. All versions of adapters, except for the last ("squiggles") have USB 3.0 analogue for a slightly higher price. If you can not find, contact the PM, I will.
