I chose between him and the Samsung r580 JS-03. It just so happened that only these two computers came under my requests. I read a lot about Samsung, but about Acer I only read two or three intelligible reviews, not including the holivar about matrices and squeaks.
So what I liked:
- Already in the store, picking up Acer, I realized that I would buy it. Build beyond praise! Nothing creaks and does not play at all. The lid is made of aluminum, but, unfortunately, quickly paws (for this, they put a branded rag in the kit). The loops are not tight, but not weak, as it seemed to someone at the Iskbit conference. The cover can be folded back 160 degrees. Armrest made of matte non-marking plastic. In general, the appearance, assembly and the materials themselves are level.
- The weight with the battery is only 2.1 kg, it feels like you are holding a large netbook in your hands. Plus a slim body. Language does not dare to call this laptop budget.
- Keyboard, keys are pressed clearly and silently. The keyboard is not exactly a chicklet like the MacBook, here the keys rise above the base. The surface is slightly rough, fingers do not slip. In short, typing is a pleasure. There is no digital block, for me it was one of the selection criteria (used to the top row). Perhaps the arrows made too small. The most important thing for me: it (the keyboard) does not bend, which affects a number of modern, and not so, laptops today. I’m getting used to the touchpad, or rather to one button-swing, I prefer separate ones.
- All the necessary ports in place, except, perhaps, eSata. I do not consider the location of 3 ex USB in a row, convenient, everything at hand. I easily stick a mouse, a USB flash drive and an external screw, the modem will not fit, but for it there is usb on the left. Wi-fi and bluetooth work as expected, no complaints.
- The cooling system, in the absence of load, the processor temperature is 35-40 degrees, the screw, even under loads, did not warm up above 42. The cooler starts to noticeably make noise at temperatures above 50 degrees, i.e. under severe stress. But even in this case, the noise is not annoying and not annoying.
- Ability to switch video systems.
- The DVD drive does not make noise, there is only a slight vibration in the case, but without it there is no way.
- Overall performance in Windows 7
- A capacious battery, with a brightness of 70%, turned on wifi in the mode of surfing and watching videos lasted about 4.5 hours.
What did not like:
- The matrix in it is the most ordinary, black gives off gray, low viewing angles and not the highest margin of brightness. Although, in general, it will do.
- Tight connector for power adapter.
-High-frequency squeak that can be heard well in a quiet room. It sometimes becomes stronger, sometimes weaker, and sometimes disappears. This is a disease of Core i processors.
- Marked aluminum cover.
- A pre-installed 64-bit system with a bunch of trash (Why is it not sold with DOS?). It was ruthlessly torn down, and a proven optimized assembly was delivered instead.
Summary: a very decent laptop, pleasing with its performance and appearance.
